  1. Ok took a bunch of pic of my collection so I could catolog what I have figured I'd share it. Some shots comparing the OG presses vs the new ones. Hit me up if you have any questions.

  2. The simple point is that, if a producer chooses to capitalize on a product's scarcity (making it 'out of' a relatively low number), especially in a market particularly based on rarity, then later, after the money is collected, renege on that 'agreement' and make a bunch of copies of the exact same fucking thing, no one should be shocked or surprised that there is backlash from the consumer. Yes, yes, 'more records for more customers = good thing,' but - echoing many others in this thread - if that's what they wanted, they should have done it open to begin with. If they were gonna make a bunch eventually, every record shoulda been cheaper. But this 'hype' 'snooze ya lose' bullshit about buying new records forces people to be quick on the button, and when that hot-on-the-button savvy is cheapened like this, everyone who paid money ahead of time thinking they were securing a coveted spot is stabbed in the back. You can downplay the 'rarity game', but it's ever-present when buying new releases. There are websites and forums and a gazillion notifications constructed to make sure people are aware of new, limited releases. There's dozens of new PO's in this forum every day for that sole reason. It's an inextricable part of this community. People SHOULD be mad, because where does that stuff end? Soon every 'limited deluxe' that costs 60 bucks for 'true fans' will just make more when the preorders are done, and the value of everything decreases, and people will stop preordering because who cares, they'll just make more. Then smaller labels preorder advances will shrink and smaller labels will fold left and right. I know I'm taking an extreme slippery slope view, but I can't help but be drawn to these conclusions. Seriously, just make a separate second pressing, how is it not the same thing? Why make it identical, just to be sure to spit in the face of the preorders? And no, a tiny sentence indicating the second press isn't good enough if that's the only difference. I'll agree to that much.

  11. THE CON X: COVERS – ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT! SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 Hello, This past winter, as the 10th anniversary of The Con quickly approached, Sara and I started to brainstorm meaningful ways to celebrate what was easily one of our most important records. Important not just because of the music or the elaborate way we approached recording it 10 years ago with Chris Walla. Important because it was the biggest leap we had made in attempting to write a cohesive group of songs that told a painful and anxious story about our different relationships to loss, death, love, compulsion, fear, letting go and moving on. Indisputably our most raw and intimate record, we wanted to ensure we created a new package that did justice to the layers of attachment that both we and our fans have had to The Con. Almost immediately we established that a tour playing all 14 songs in a more intimate and stripped-down arrangement would be special and memorable for our diehard fans. But we also wanted a companion piece that would live on past the anniversary, hence The Con X: Covers album was born. From day one we wanted the proceeds to go to our newly-launched Tegan and Sara Foundation, which raises money for self-identified women and girls in the LGBTQ community. With that intention set, we asked 14 artists who were either outspoken allies of the LGTBQ community or LGBTQ themselves to each cover a song from The Con. We encouraged each artist to approach the song they were covering in any fashion they saw fit. Their inspiration could come from the original record or The Con Demos, our first home recordings that were released after The Con came out. All the artists agreed to donate their time and energy to the project and their labels all agreed to waive their fees as well. At the core of our planning was the hope that this new project would tell another chapter in the story that was The Con. Music allows us to project our own stories, losses, and anxieties onto the melodies and words of someone else. It’s a universal language that bonds people together from different worlds, countries, and experiences. Somehow all these new covers manage to come together to add a new chapter to The Con. We are beyond grateful for the contributions of each artist, and we hope fans of The Con will be moved by their interpretations. The preorder for The Con X: Covers will begin on September 19 via teganandsara.com. The CD and digital/streaming album will be released on October 20. Vinyl will be released on December 22. Below is the tracklisting! xo Tegan and Sara CD and Vinyl Tracklisting: 1. Ruth B. – I Was Married 2. MUNA – Relief Next to Me 3. Shura – The Con 4. Mykki Blanco – Knife Going In 5. 17. I couldn't see them doing an in-store performance, but maybe a meet and greet? If he can't rely on sandbag to ship these LPs maybe hes schlepping them around with him slinging them at record shops by doing an in-store. Hell I'd rebuy all of them if he was going to autograph them.

  18. Maybe this is why OG Travis left, UO, FYE, and Newbury Comics are all killing it. A thought for the new music buyer, What really used to get people pumped were the details. Make us feel like that close community again, tell us what you're working on, when it might be coming out, how many you're pressing. It creates buzz. We don't want to go on-line to be surprised by new exclusives randomly in stock, we want to know what's coming up and when. I really think a big reason of the success of the past HT exclusives was because travis was so dialed into this community and respected. Keep the presses small, keep us in the loop, it generates excitement.

  19. They aren't making their money on subscriptions sold (alone). They're data mining. They're going to sell off info like age, viewing habits, movie tastes, etc. That's where the real money is.

  34. Giving this a digital listen through headphones (average quality ones, even) and it's finally clicking for me. So many little subtle sounds that got lost during my turntable spin as I dawdled around my room doing stuff. It's a very complex album and very pretty and melancholy.

  36. Finally watched the last 3 episodes and holy shit that was an ordeal. Not in a bad way but it was a lot to take in one sitting, I was pretty shook by the end. Even though there are so many unanswered (and new) questions, I still think it was pretty definitive (and bleak....and confusing) end.

    PO Soon: TWIN PEAKS

I was asking myself the same question all day and finally ended up just going for the signed one. If i do pick up a color one down the road I may end up just swapping out the inserts (if they are the same) and selling the black for a loss.

  44. thank you. and thank you I think we're trying to please a few different kinds of collectors. I know the thing I love the most is walking into a shop and seeing some crazy rare record on the wall. maybe something I didn't know existed or something I have never seen in person. a lot of shops use this as a chance to over price these records but we are trying our best to not. also we have some cool ideas on how to present the LPs that we haven't shared with a lot of people. but we're going to be featuring all of our LPs with our own Obi Strips. these will make flipping and digging easier. our obi's will have all the pressing information, color , condition, price and other cool info on it. i'm hoping buyers will appreciate the extra effort.
