Oh Sees- Smote Reverser- Aug 17
jack8urt0n and 3 others reacted to youspinmeround for a topic
https://ohsees.bandcamp.com/track/overthrown Crack the coffers, Oh Sees have spawned another frothy LP of head-destroying psych epics to grok and rock out to. You’ll notice the fresh dollop of organ and keyboard prowess courtesy of “Memory of a Cut Off Head” alum and noted key-stabber Tom Dolas. The Quattrone/Rincon drum-corps polyrhythmic pulse continues to astound and pound in equal measure, buttressed by the nimble fingered bottom end of Sir Tim Hellman the Brave and of course the shred-heaven fret frying of John Dwyer, while Lady Brigid Dawson again graces the wax with her harmonic gifts. Aside from the familiar psych-scorch familiar to soggy pit denizens the world over, there’s a fresh heavy-prog vibe that fits like a worn-in jean jacket comfortably among hairpin metal turns and the familiar but no less horns-worthy guitar fireworks Dwyer’s made his calling card. Perhaps the most notable thing about Smote Reverser is the artistic restlessness underpinning its flights of fancy. Dwyer refuses to repeat himself and for someone with such a hectic release schedule, that stretching of aesthetic borders and omnivorous appetite seems all the more superhuman.4 points -

Best seats in Radio City were $250, cheapest was $75 for third mezz. I'm resigned to the fact that mid acts will be around $40-$50 and big names over $100 but to charge $250 and you have to wait around for 6 hours is crazy in my opinion. Obviously people were willing to do this and pay it so whatever.2 points -

I was wondering if the whole album will be this heavy. My buddy Paul is one of the Oh Sees drummers. He said all the songs on the new album are heavy, but only “some” of the songs are THIS heavy. Sounds like this will be a wild album.1 point -

Love Lanegan loathe Garwood. Probably pass on this Black Pudding rarely gets any rotation whereas everything sans Garwood does. Of all the members of his touring band it's sad Garwood is the one he collaborates with, I'd snap up a Lanegan/Lyenn collab completely blind.1 point -
Same, so ready for this album.1 point

Have the originals, so will be passing, but glad others will be able to own these two amazing albums. PS - if you really like the band, check out the lead singer’s side project/new band: The Gentle Hits.1 point

Back in the day when Equal Vision was a go-to label, I would buy so much stuff from them that they'd send me little goodies in the mail every so often (or maybe they just did that with everyone). One time I got an orange Drunk Like Bible Times keychain bottle opener that I've had on my keyring for 10 years now. I've never listened to the album and I don't even drink. I will never take it off.1 point

I braved the Chicago line on Saturday. I showed up at around 9AM and the line was already about 6 blocks long. Fortunately I was surrounded by some cool as hell people in line, so we just shot the shit and drank beer the entire time. Apparently at one point a woman started vomiting blood in line and we had to walk through the aftermath of that, which was less than ideal, but the whole thing went surprisingly smooth. The staff and security were on their shit and the whole thing felt completely under control. I'm not saying I'd ever do it again, but it went as well as it possibly could have for me.1 point

Interpunk and SRC always do this because they're shit companies that only sell records by being the first to put them up and making people worry they won't be able to buy them if they don't preorder ASAP. Why would anyone preorder a black Fat release?1 point -

I guess it depends on the city and where your ticket is. Face price for the worst tickets in Detroit (gallery) were $40 + fees. But the pit and good main floor tickets were $175. And the back rows of the mainfloor were still $95. As far as I recall NIN has never charged anywhere near that much for the best seats when they've done these smaller shows in the past. At least they haven't at the cities near me. If you're making people at a lot of these cities wait 6+ hours to even get them, maybe don't screw them and charge 2x the norm for those good seats. But Trent and co know that if you are willing to wait that long then you are willing to pay that much.1 point

I love the idea of a physical, box office only release. It rewards fans and gives them a chance to get good seats (if they have the time of course). However, ticket prices for concerts are getting out of control for some artists and it’s really discouraging to see Trent and company charge $200-$250 face to fans willing to wait out in the pouring rain for hours. Disappointed I’ll be missing them but I can’t justify those prices.1 point

The issue is, I switched off my adblocker and I STILL got the pop up and couldn't use the site. Even after removing the Chrome extension completely. I also have a VPN extension, but that wasn't even switched on. Still couldn't access the site. I had to remove the VPN extension completely before I was able to access the site. A polite request not to use an adblocker is fine, but you're crippling the entire site for me.1 point

I just found out I'm going to be in Chicago for part of Cinepocalypse. I don't know if I can burn my whole trip at it, but I'm thinking that I might buy a pass and try to see a few movies each day while I'm there. Kind of stoked. I've been real interested in a genre fest, but never thought it was something I'd travel just for.1 point -
