Sooooo...let me understand this. Dude walks in here and gives his honest & lengthy opinion & review of the song as a fan of the band, and people are giving him shit & calling him pretentious?!?! Get the fuck out of here with that shitty attitude. He’s a fan who loves the band & expressed his appreciation. If you don’t like it, take your toxic bashing somewhere else. Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.

    [PO] Tycho – Weather

We in it now. https://merch.ambientinks.com/collections/tychoiso50/weather I still think Awake is the best thing they've released; 2016's Epoch has some incredible moments but doesn't feel quite as consistent with its staying power. I'm really enjoying the direction of this first single, though. At this point in the game, Tycho can afford to push their horizons a bit... and that's what I'm hoping for with LP5. Who else is hyped on this thing?

I imagine it went down something like this. ETR: Hey Andy can we press Get Wet and overcharge for gimmicky vinyl variants sourced from CD? AWK: I’d prefer you didn’t. ETR: Well, too bad. We do what we like and we like what we do. AWK: Fair enough.

Just wanted to pop by and say how sweet it feels to see the stuff bein chatted about. Sorry to the few of you whose xtra vinyl I somehow forgot, it's been a crazy coupla months, but I'm sortin it out. As to the master, my friend Will Quinnell is a badass mastering engineer who also loves W&S, and he made us a special vinyl master for this pressing. Yay music! Anyway, say hi anytime at jonahmatranga.com :) xo

    Sleeve “Cracking”

I'm being a little facetious but there's something freeing about seam splits and corner bends. I spend a lot of time reading vinyl forums and browsing Discogs and the Great Quest for Vinyl Perfection can seep it's way into my subconscious as I read about people's frustrations with imperfect jackets or sleeves. It's sort of like getting your first ding on a new car; now, you can stop worrying about getting your first ding and continue with your life. "My jacket has a seam split. Phew. Now, I can just enjoy listening to this and not care about being an archivist and collector of mint memorabilia. I AM FREE."

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Tool. The lyrics are extremely complex and without a solid grasp of the Fibonacci sequence most of the words will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Tool's uncommon time signatures which is deftly woven into their characterization - Maynard's personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just music- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Tool truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Maynard's famous song "Hooker With A Penis, " which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Maynard James Keenan's genius unfolds itself on their record players. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have an Ænima tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

It sounds to me (and this is probably why people are reacting so strongly) like you're looking to get into the speculative vinyl market, and I've gotta say beyond the ick factor of straight-up asking which records will be out of print soonest, it's just not a great idea in general. Collecting "limited" records for their "value" is a big gamble, and unless you're already knowledgeable and immersed in the hobby, the odds are good that you'll end up stuck with a bunch of records you don't want that you'll eventually dump for a loss. If you want to make easy money flipping stuff, there are probably safer bets out there. Now, if you're asking because you just want to own something, anything, as long as it's limited: I would honestly just take a step back and ask whether possessing rare items will actually make you happy, or if you're just passively following messages you (and all of us! since birth!) are receiving from our western capitalist society that are telling you that consumption is the highest form of cultural participation. Maybe just think about what music connects with you, and seek out a copy of that music on a format that you think is cool. Some of my favorite and most treasured records are monetarily worthless, yet they bring me more joy than records worth $100+ that I bought to fill out a collection.

I've finally acquired my white whale: a Jurassic Park test pressing. This rush of joy was immediately cut down by my wife and daughter as they rolled their eyes at this wonderful news. Where do I go from here? Quit the game? I suppose that'd be going out on top. But this is a mental disorder, not a hobby. This is a support group, not a message board. And the unique thing is that it's a support group where people sitting around the same circle are willing to tell you point-blank that you f/cking suck. Here's my TP tally. Anyone come across a Blair Witch yet? I suppose Halloween would be my next most-wanted but I, like with JP, won't hold my breath. Army of Darkness Back To The Future II (picture disc, scrapped pressing) Black Swan Case Of The Scorpion’s Tail Drive (Lakeshore) Drive (picture disc) Guardians of the Galaxy Hannibal Jurassic Park Jurassic World Maniac (2013) Rewind This! Someone won a record from me on [auction site] for $4 once and instantly sent a message "YOU BETTER SHIP THIS!" all caps and all. I was definitely gonna ship it before but that annoyed me so I replied that I accidentally spilled soda all over it and if they still want me to ship it. Of course they didn't want it anymore but I was totally gonna fuck it up before I shipped it.

I just want a simple, standard gram (because its wasteful and serves no additional purpose), cleanly and carefully pressed black vinyl, impeccably mastered (as close to AAA as possible), normal weight basic gatefold, quality printed jacket 2xLP of everything. No Pic disc. No incorporated television. No lenticular cover (though I would forgive it if they worked it into an Aenima reissue). No wifi router. No nothing crazy. Just solid, true to format vinyl pressing that excels at reproducing the stereo master as beautifully as possible when the fuckin' needle touches down and drags through the basic ass grooves of the godforsaken LP. Can I get an Amen or just a plain old delivery on this?

PO: Zao - The Funeral of God (5/3)

I may be biased since I went through all the hassle of having the new master done, but I think it sounds great. We had to have this pressed at GZ in the czech republic which I am not a fan of. I have never liked the Direct to Metal cutting they do there and while they DO accept lacquers we had 2 different lacquer cutters refuse to do it if GZ was pressing, so... it was a bit stressful for us. This record is technically about 4 minutes too long to comfortably put on one piece of vinyl without some fidelity problems. we lucked out in that the song that was going to suffer the most "lesser lights of heaven" being at the end of side 1 has almost no low end in it anyway and is KIND of blown out a bit on the original album. so inner groove distortion on any song, THAT was the one to have it happen, so without even shifting songs around, the song that would have suffered the most from a long cut is the song that kind of didn't matter if it did because, it kind of sounds like that anyway. the irony is, the very things we don't like about what the DMM cutting process were already built into the record anyway (mostly the lack of Bass frequencies and a little to much brightness on the top end) . So we didn't lose anything by using this process, there is a distinct lack of low end on the record and the high end is bright, so nothing changed. DMM DOES allow a longer/louder cut which can be more forgiving on the Inner Grooves, and that was what we needed more. overall (and i can say this objectively since i am not ON the album) i think this master sounds WAY better than the CD/Digital versions, there is actually a lot more clarity to everything without sounding drastically different, and when it matters, the quiet parts really get quiet to allow the loud parts to jump out more. -- the rest of the guys all commented on this when they heard the vinyl so it's not just me.

Hello all! Here's our annual RSD thread! RSD is here a week early for some odd reason but the other details are the same as always. Both shops are open 8am to 8pm and we'll have hundreds of RSD exclusive releases on hand as always and a few really cool things to give away. First; we've got a test pressing for the Green Day "Woodstock 1994" LP to raffle off. All you have to do to enter is buy a copy of the regular Woodstock LP from us and we'll pick a winner Monday the 15th! It is currently not autographed by anyone but we're hoping to get that changed before RSD. Secondly; we've got a Mastodon test press for their RSD release! Same rules apply as the Green Day give away and a winner will be contacted Monday the 15th THIRDLY!; The first 100 people in line in at either location will be signed up for a raffle to win a $100 gift certificate. Winners will be contacted Monday the 15th. FOURTHLY!!!; This isn't a giveaway but our next door neighbor Tacos Oscar will be open early for brunch/lunch so bring your appetites. If you haven't been to his place we can't recommend it enough. Check out this MASSIVE spread he got in the SF chronicle! https://www.sfchronicle.com/food/article/Tacos-Oscar-s-unlikely-road-to-success-in-13450091.php Oh and of course the first person in line at either location gets 5 minutes in the shop alone from 7:55am to 8am! IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR OUR LEFTOVERS Leftovers will be up at http://1234gorecords.com at 5am PST on Sunday the 14th. You'll find the RSD pages under the mail order tab right at the top. We are now running this out of a squarespace store instead of our janky old webstore so you can use credit cards or paypal if you like. We tested this out on Black Friday and it worked like a dream. Processing time on the orders was greatly reduced as well so we're faster than ever! Rules of the mail order road, please and thank you. 1. Please try to condense everything you want in to one order. We can try to combine orders if you place two but we may also miss it because we're processing hundreds of orders in a very short amount of time. 2. PLEEEEEEEASE don't place an order, freak out that you might not get something, order from some place else and then cancel with us. That's such a bummer. The inventory in our store should be accurate. If it's still up in the store, we still have stock. If we experience an oversell on something we will be in touch ASAP but that didn't happen more than a handful of times last year out of hundreds of orders. 3. If you have questions about an order, Please email [email protected] We won't be doing customer service stuff in this thread or even checking it that often as we'll be working like crazy to get your orders out in a timely manner. Finally, Know we love you and are working very hard to get your orders out as quickly as possible. Also know that it's two people working on this and we aren't Amazon so while it will go quickly it won't be same day shipping. Last year I think we got everything out withing 5 or 6 days total. You will recieve an email from us when your order ships with your tracking info in it the second it ships. Squarespace and our shipping software are really great about this. Overall we've got a pretty great reputation around these parts for the most part I think so don't be scurred. We're going to take care of you and it's going to be great. Thanks everyone! You guys really make the dream work for us post RSD and it's greatly appreciated!
