  1. As a seller Never list a record as mint. As a buyer never expect a record to come in mint condition. Think about the wear a record gets before coming to you. Plant > label > distribution > original purchaser > resale purchaser that is a lot of room for error with slight pressing defects occurring prior to it ever being shipped

  2. I think most of us want it because it looks awesome. Other than Ben.

  4. I think we’re all missing the real question: did it or did it not taste like mint?

  6. It pisses me off that people list anything as Mint. Unless the record is still sealed with zero wear or dents it should be listed at NM or below. Sellers at fault for not grading shit correctly. However, if you're spending over $100 on a hard-to-find record I would always ask the seller to re-inspect and re-grade the item and send photos from all angles.

  7. I’d say as long as it plays and sounds good, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I get that it’s super annoying, but when it comes down to it, how often are you going to just sit and stare at the record itself?

  9. People want these because they are rare and become valuable and then also complain about them being rare and valuable

  11. Press more of them and don't charge $30 for a single? I would have shit on them even more if I got the limited split color of The Sciences because the sleeve was complete garbage for $20 more than the better quality tip-on.

  12. Then that particular record has had way more chances to get scratched / acquire dust / roll around in the jacket and cause impacts / etc. Don’t list as mint. angryalan up up there is right. If it’s anything other than completely sealed, it shouldn’t be listed as Mint media, and if a seller lists as Mint and mentions it’s open or ‘just opened to view color’ then it’s not mint. Sellers should be more careful and factual but buyers should be more aware that most people don’t grade correctly. If the sound is messed up, I’d return that immediately. If it’s just non-audible paper scuffs on a rare irreplaceable record, I’d probably just suck it up.

  14. This thread has been dead this month! Back to the top because Deathspell Omega's 'FAS' and 'Kenose' have been repressed. NoEvDia has them of course, and 20 Buck Spin has some for the U.S. buyers in their distro stock right now!

  22. DBM and DBM2. I like how the cover of 2 is similar but different enough from the first one. The cover itself feels like a sequel to the first.

  23. Yeah he was the first one. He was on Whatever I Say..., DBM, and DBM2. He ended up being a pretty terrible human being. And honestly I kind of stopped following what’s going on with him after DBM2. Sucks though cause goddamn that guy can sing. If you’re a fan of his voice, his solo album and the first 2 Emarosa full-lengths are so sooo good.

  24. I've only heard DBM 1 & 2, Happiness and Mothership. I just started listening to them not too long ago. Mothership is my favorite. I also stayed up for a bit last night and read about the history of the band. Is Jonny Craig the popular vocalist out of the many that the band has had? His issues with drugs and his ex-girlfriend were an interesting read.

  25. I think it’s the vocals on Grand Paradise that remind me of Modest Mouse. And it’s funny you mention Brand New because I keep thinking that Lich Prince wouldn’t sound out of place on Science Fiction.

  32. I have pretty much this, except with a NADC326BEE receiver ($400ish new) and a Hagerman Bugle2 preamp. A very solid setup, durable and reliable. My next move, maybe when my kids are older, will likely be 3-4 times in price, because it will start to take a lot more money for bigger sound improvements.

  35. to answer your question a record with light visible scratches that do not affect play are considered VG+. Usually has to be deeper or more plentiful scratches that cause some surface noise to fall under VG. I never grade an open record as mint just to cover my ass in case of a picky collector, I usually undergrade in general to avoid this

  37. I think everybody around here probably got the joke. Once non-music websites started calling it VHS black, we saw a lot of confused people. We didn't want to cause people to buy two black copies. It was too bad. We really wanted to start labeling records "black as your soul," black panther at midnight, pothole patch, etc. Just stupid stuff really. Merge took care of it by calling all their variants "Peak Vinyl"

  42. That song… I tried to be non biased since I haven’t listened to a full song from them in like 5? Years? Honestly, it sounds way too much like the new Underoath album and it makes since why they’re touring together. From the piano sprinkled in to some of the guitar tones, just sounds way too familiar. I also kinda cringed at the scream halfway through because it seemed so out of place like “hey we need to add this so the old fans will be interested.” I could honestly any other generic pop song getting made from these stems.

  47. I'm a fan of the stupid bleeping in Trapped In Dillards. After 4 listens the only song I'm not head over heels for is Crown Candy. The whole album is a middle ground between Foxing and Smidley. I hoped that wouldn't happen because a few of the Smidley songs are terrible but they did it and I was wrong which is cool.

  48. No, we have been complaining about the ruination of our music for several years now. Every reissue I can think of sounds like shit. Nirvana Box Set, shit. PJ Ten reissue, shit. I don't know about you, but when an artist puts loud AND soft parts in a song I assume they meant to do so. If I want it louder I can fuckin turn up the volume knob. Plus compression destroys the dynamic range of cymbals. It's simple, if you like your music with range and depth and clarity that you should boycott and compressed shit. It is amazing for any vinyl collector to not be concerned with this unless you only plan on hanging your albums on the wall.
