  1. This might be the hardest to come by YLT and maybe worth mentioning here... Yo La Tengo's SUMMER SUN back on vinyl

  2. the people who need to buy all 10 Wilco albums at once are the same people who would buy clothes from this company. All of this makes sense.

  3. WOW. As anyone who knows wood/quality should know, the wood they're using for that box is literally the cheapest wood/material you could possibly use for something like this. It's not even considered solid wood, it's thin layered sheets placed on top of one another of incredibly low-quality material- and for $1200, at the minimum it should be solid, quality wood.

  6. I went a couple years ago to see a lady friend. We got hot chicken (pro tip: the bread is to soak up the grease/hot sauce, don't eat it). We ate at a GREAT BBQ place but I am struggling to think of the name. The Great Escape is the best record store there for used records.

  8. Yes. Mine came today and it's actually curved a little bit but the sound quality is very good.

  9. I joined VC toward the end of my freshman year of high school to ask Travis if we could get an All Time Low album pressed to vinyl. I'd love to just read back all my first few dozen-to-hundred posts starting from the oldest just for fun, but I think ever since the site changed you can't do that anymore. Anyway, I found the first post I made in this thread like four years ago: For full authenticity to the time frame, pretend my avatar is the cover of Foo Fighters' The Colour and the Shape, my username is DOMAN127, and my post count is under a thousand.

  10. Carpenter here. It's really, really bad. A novice carpenter could easily cut down, build, and stain all 10 of these boxes in a single work day, and I suspect the designer spent even less time on it than that. You don't usually leave the edges of plywood exposed (it's a building material, not a decorative wood), and you certainly don't stain the edges. If the albums cost $20 each (assuming they didn't get them at wholesale price), that's $200. The raw material the boxes were built from probably cost less than $10 each. Altogether, the 10 boxes cost $2,100 to produce. In total, they sold all 10 for a total of $12,000... essentially a $10,000 profit. Not bad for a days work, right?

  11. Seriously. Super rich people spend money on the zaniest of things. This will likely be displayed in a second den or living room alongside an old antique toy truck that cost $3,000 or like a tribal mask that cost $5,000.

  14. Well the albums are just the regular albums signed by Tweedy so the only rare thing is the box, which you could build yourself if you were handy enough and then that would be a 1/1

  16. Yeah, but "Pretty Fly For A White Guy" is easily the best song. Ever.

  17. There's also a Wilco-branded tool for cutting wood. The price? https://www.bestmadeco.com/products/gray-ghost?taxon_id=1452

  18. Lol indeed. From the same brand that sells $200 chinos, $248 fleece crewneck sweatshirts, and $50 t-shirts. So tired of these companies who want to cater to bearded wannabe outdoorsmen. Their customer base wouldn't last an hour atop a grassy knoll.

  26. Agreed, this EP rips. Which makes it all the more disappointing it's tape-only - strong Rot Forever vibes in a few tracks.

  30. They had to have been designed bigger than a cd. It's just whether or not those files are kept over 20+ years. Surely, they used the album art on some sort of large print advertisement. I'm just glad to finally have these albums.

  31. I got an email from Epitaph about this and by the time they actually sent it out it'd been shutdown. Apparently giving away $20+ to anyone on the internet who can vote is not a good idea.

  34. Anyone who says any particular snippet of that promo doesn't deserve to represent people. I hope I'm wrong, but he'll win. I spent the first 21 years of my life in GA. I know everyone who will vote for him. They're white, poor/ middle class/ upper crust, racist (mostly), Trumpeteers, and primarily over 35 (several exceptions to that one). I'd vote for a young tree over that guy.

  35. This is so, so good. Really just blew me away when I spun it for the first time yesterday and it's been on repeat all morning. Might be the best Pure Noise release of the year, and that's really saying something.

    Shoegaze/Dream Pop Thread

New Manon Meurt album (MMXVIII) dropped today. Seems to be on Spotify but not Bandcamp. Making my 2nd pass through right now. It’s pretty fantastic. No immediate epic standouts like their first had (Until You Can, Blue Bird) but the whole album start to finish flows beautifully. Songs are mostly slower paced & more melancholic but Neon is a perfect “upbeat” banger to break up the album. The vocals are cleaner this time around as well. Not as blended into the instrumentation as most shoegaze. But damn her voice is beautiful. I think this will take a few listens to really reveal all the layers & start to click, but I’m already enjoying it thoroughly.

    Jay Rock - Redemption

There's also a really cool variant /1500 from Urban Outfitters that I just got. It's listed as "red" but it's actually red w/ black smoke. Picture below:

  45. I was thinking of this last night and while it’s not really this site’s target audience, I read recently that there’s a huge glut of Elvis Presley records and no one wants them anymore. Apparently, before the vinyl renaissance his releases (along with The Beatles) were the de facto “Hey, I found these in the attic - it’s Elvis so they must be worth a million dollars!” type records, but between so many of his fans aging/dying off and the general abundance out there (his stuff was issued and repackaged and reissued thousands of times) no one cares anymore and any antique store you go to has a shelf of Elvis records no one is ever going to buy.

  46. I pretty much gave up on them as a band too until I saw them live earlier this year for free. They're greater than ever, and I love the shoegaze-y production of the most recent LP.
