  1. https://www.plaidroomrecords.com/ An early shout for these guys, who are displaying their stock levels although they don't go online until tomorrow at 8am EST. Plenty of copies of The Crow.

  2. I got 4 out of 5 wants so I consider myself lucky since I was so far back in line. Just gotta find a Weezer Dusty Gems. Oh and the manager of my shop said he didn’t order any of the 3”s. He said “they require buying the little player. Fuck that.” Kudos to him.

  3. This happens every year. People can’t control themselves and panic buy. Almost all RSD titles will be available for MSRP in a few hours. I’ve never missed out on something I really wanted. Patience is the name of the game.

  4. FYI....The Crow is a really good pressing to my ears. (Turntable is a Project Debut Carbon and is the weakest part of my setup). First thing ive played so far. Im no audiophile expert but no pops whatsoever. Rocks like hell. Dead quiet in between songs. Really happy with it.

  5. Leftovers will be up at http://1234gorecords.com/recordstoreday at 5am EST on Sunday the 14th. We are no running this out of a squarespace store instead of our janky old webstore so you can use credit cards or paypal if you like. We tested this out on Black Friday and it worked like a dream. Processing time on the orders was greatly reduced as well so we're faster than ever!

  6. EVERYBODY PILE ON BARONESS!! AKA Nickelback lite hurr durrr! Are people seriously preordering this band's albums and complaining over the new singles 7 YEARS after Yellow & Green came out?? That's rich! Also, suckers! Or maybe flippers... Hah. Haters coming out the woodwork to blast a band that has only gotten more popular with every release. Love it, and I guess that's to be expected. Baroness rules. Comparing them to the Foo Fighters is hilarious btw. Also, I don't think the band has lost anything with regards to complexity ('Seasons' for example). The rhythm section is tight as a mug, and the new female guitarist shreds. Bring on the hate.

  11. Snagged Anderson East, Office Space & found Thrice at the 4th & last store I went to. Also picked up Lily & Madeleine and American Football as non-RSD purchases. Found The Crow soundtrack on cassette for $5 so I grabbed that haha

  12. I'm working today which goes well with my philosophy that "making money is better than spending money." Nonetheless, I'll be looking for The Crow and Bone Thugs online tomorrow.

  13. Don’t give a damn about the naysayers… I’m excited for this record and if anyone is surprised about the direction that Baroness has taken - that’s their own fault. The band has continuously moved away from their earlier sound and are now into more of a progressive territory. If you don’t like it, go away. Thousands of other people have bought this one and it will likely keep selling, keep getting press and ultimately be a good addition to their catalog. There are still 15 songs to hear and I’m looking forward to each one.

  14. A non-pic disc of Art Damage would be sweet too

  15. Got everything I wanted except Depreciation Guild. I did help three people get stuff they would’ve missed out on otherwise, though, so I’m hoping good karma will hit me back and I’ll secure a copy by the end of the day.

Did grab one for someone here n sent it out this morning so i didnt wanna take two from the table. Patience is the one thing this hobby has taught me.

  18. Wait, Friedman handled ECS? Wow. I had no idea. It sounds nothing like his usual work – the idea of a mega tinny, flat sounding Mogwai record is appalling to me on several levels. When I was younger and a lot more naive, I thought production was a really dumb thing for elitists and contrarians to complain about. "If the songwriting is exemplary, who gives a shit how it's mixed?" And now that I'm older, that exact mentality is the worst case scenario. Nothing is worse than wanting to enjoy and blare an album that's poorly produced, because no amount of expensive audio gear is going to fix it. And to think it's sometimes a conscious decision by people whose sole income and responsibility hinges on their production choices? Oof. The ultimate case of you had one job...

  19. I stand by what I said. My wife enjoys Crack the Skye. I shoot her the stink eye every time she puts it on...

  20. Wh what what? Crack the Skye is solid, and I actually enjoyed Emperor of Sand a decent bit. Seemed like a bit of a return to form for Mastodon. Still not amazing, but pretty good. Leviathan will still forever be the high point of their career though

  21. This back and forth regarding how much Baroness sucks/doesn't suck is way over the top. In general, I've liked recent Baroness (not loved). I've hated the production on this and Purple (seriously Fridmann, I'm done with your bullshit), but I would in no way categorize anything Baroness does as butt-rock or compare them to the Foo Fighters, who, since The Colour and Shape, have gone from meh to "even my dad is bored as fuck." I love me some roaring Baizley, but I think the band has been fairly successful at exploring sonic areas outside of thrash/sludge metal. They've been way more successful at exploring prog/rock than contemporaries like Mastodon (imo: fuck everything after Blood Mountain). I honestly love Yellow & Green - I think it's an honest and interesting record both compositionally and in terms of production. Purple had some moments, but the production killed it for me. The singles released so far from Gold & Grey have been fine. They're fine... Not great, but by no means bad. I really hope there is something more interesting on the record, but I'm not going to regret pre-ordering. If I were to rank all things Baroness, this would be my order: Red Yellow & Green First/Second Blue Purple A Grey Sigh in a Flower Husk Sorry, Blue lovers. That album has some of my favorite songs, but I think the flow kind of sucks as an album.

  22. So going off Plaid Room's stock numbers, the following should be fairly easy to grab via them or elsewhere in the coming days: The Crow, Lost In Translation, Seven Mary Three, Breaking Bad, Weezer's b-sides (and I'm imagining Teal shouldn't be too bad either). They have quite a few Body Talk left, too. I figure those secondary market prices will plummet very soon.

  23. I went to two stores and both had copious amounts of The Crow. It'll be online tomorrow definitely at some places.

  33. I got lucky this year and was able to get the only copy of Justin Courtney Pierre's 4-Track 12" EP that my store got in. I didn't even think to request for my store to get it in, I just thought it was going to be exclusive to Minneapolis stores for some reason. It was the only thing that interested me this year and I am glad I was able to get it.

  44. EVERYBODY STOP THE NEGATIVITY!! AKA no discussion or opinions hurr durr! Are people seriously preordering this band's album in hopes that they'll stop being mediocre after 7 YEARS?? That's rich! Also, delusional! Or maybe gluttons for disappointment... Hah. Longtime fans participating in the thread to blast a band that has only gotten more watered down and radio accessible with every release. Love it, and I guess that's to be expected. Baroness are okay. Comparing them to the Foo Fights is hilarious btw. Also, I can't seem to grasp that a single's technical riff ≠ complex or interesting songwriting ('Birthing' for example). The production is kinda' balls, but at least the new female guitarist shreds. Bring on the hate.

  47. we'll likely have leftovers of the Wintersleep 7" and AOF tapes, i cant imagine the nil vinyl will last the day. the AOF tapes are /300, we'll have ~150 for sale and the band will be selling the others next week.

  48. Ya know. That same thought crossed my mind. Why all of a sudden is he an expert witness on everything music?!?! In this case, what ties does he have to Chicago and Wax Trax and industrial music? “Oh! Ministry were on Lollapalooza. Nirvana were offered to be on Lollapalooza at one time. I ran into Al Jourgensen once and we talked.”
