    Zao Re-issues!

I may be biased since I went through all the hassle of having the new master done, but I think it sounds great. We had to have this pressed at GZ in the czech republic which I am not a fan of. I have never liked the Direct to Metal cutting they do there and while they DO accept lacquers we had 2 different lacquer cutters refuse to do it if GZ was pressing, so... it was a bit stressful for us. This record is technically about 4 minutes too long to comfortably put on one piece of vinyl without some fidelity problems. we lucked out in that the song that was going to suffer the most "lesser lights of heaven" being at the end of side 1 has almost no low end in it anyway and is KIND of blown out a bit on the original album. so inner groove distortion on any song, THAT was the one to have it happen, so without even shifting songs around, the song that would have suffered the most from a long cut is the song that kind of didn't matter if it did because, it kind of sounds like that anyway. the irony is, the very things we don't like about what the DMM cutting process were already built into the record anyway (mostly the lack of Bass frequencies and a little to much brightness on the top end) . So we didn't lose anything by using this process, there is a distinct lack of low end on the record and the high end is bright, so nothing changed. DMM DOES allow a longer/louder cut which can be more forgiving on the Inner Grooves, and that was what we needed more. overall (and i can say this objectively since i am not ON the album) i think this master sounds WAY better than the CD/Digital versions, there is actually a lot more clarity to everything without sounding drastically different, and when it matters, the quiet parts really get quiet to allow the loud parts to jump out more. -- the rest of the guys all commented on this when they heard the vinyl so it's not just me.

  2. Hyped. A few instagram posts back, Rob was explaining how the EWEW LP funding fell through a few years back, and is currently looking for someone to help . You may have seen the conversation already, but if not, maybe it's worth reconnecting?

  3. Showed up today, more of a frosted color than clear. Spinning now, really actually loving the female vocals, I'd listened to Tycho a number of times before but it usually just makes me want to listen to Boards of Canada Production/mix and vinyl mastering are all really good, it's a treat to the ears.

  4. Full length from .gif from god. Pretty sure it's being released by Prosthetic but right now it's only been made available through the band's bandcamp. These guys aren't death metal but for lack of a better thread I'm posting in here... https://giffromgod.bandcamp.com/album/approximation-of-a-human

  7. https://store.mute.com/browse/m83/products/m83-dsvii Pink Galaxy vinyl up for preorder. "Mute will release M83’s Digital Shades Vol. 2 on September 20, 2019. It will be available in limited edition pink galaxy color double vinyl, CD, and digital formats. Anthony Gonzalez (M83) spoke with his brother and creative partner Yann Gonzalez about the record, saying the below: At first there was this vivid memory of Dungeons and Dragons, this childhood sensation of living in an imaginary world set in a faraway past or a lost future. I wanted to create some music that could be part of this adventure and journey with all of its solitary knights, dreamy landscapes, strange animals, forgotten myths and old spells. Originally, the Digital Shades project was supposed to be much more intimate – a collection of B-sides and unused tracks destined for the hardcore fan base. Digital Shades was the name chosen to dissociate it from a proper studio album, although it would be fully part of M83’s discography. Digital Shades became an excuse to give a second life to some tracks instead of letting them disappear into the void. I wanted to create a production of ambient music that could evolve throughout the years. With Vol. 2, I wanted to come back with something stronger that featured the depth of a proper studio album without the pressure of providing pop music – faraway from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and Junk. The inspiration behind this record is mainly video game music. It felt so refreshing to play all of these old school games again. I wanted to be surrounded by nature and the past. I would only feed myself with older art. It’s almost as if I couldn’t stand living in the present. This is probably why it was important for me to only use analog equipment for this record. We recorded everything with vintage equipment in my studio and at Justin Meldal-Johnsen’s studio in Glendale, California during final production." From email newsletter: "Today M83 announces DSVII. Arriving more than 12 years after the first installment, the album will be released on September 20th. When I work on a record, I have difficulty saying goodbye to some pieces of music that I think have potential but don’t necessarily fit the style of the album. This is how Digital Shades became an excuse to give a second life to some tracks instead of letting them disappear into the void. With DSVII, I wanted to come back with something stronger that featured the depth of a proper studio album without the pressure of providing pop music – faraway from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and Junk. 8. 2019 is the year of paying-for-shit-you've-already heard. TA re-release, Atari's demos, Tiny Moving Parts releasing the exact same album for a third time in a row, etc.

  14. New ADTR pressing up on victory's site for "For Those Who Have Heart". I have been avidly collecting the ADTR starburst variants, as they tend to look hellah fresh. This one is an odd color combo, but hey, ill take it. https://www.victorymerch.com/merch/vinyl/15744/a-day-to-remember-for-those-who-have-heart-vinyl Also, I noticed in the 'pressing drop down' box, a sold out starburst in "WHITE/YELLOW/BLUE STARBURST" Does anyone have information about that pressing?? Is it old? Newish? I never have seen an image of it, and don't see it on discoggs either.

  15. I gotta say that artwork is fucking great. The tracklisting in the teaser shows A, B, C, D sections but the preorder on Mute doesn't indicate it as a 2xLP. I hope it is, if it means a longer album length. Edit: I've been corrected below. That big paragraph on Mute's preorder page was too much for my attention span so I didn't bother to read the first two sentences lol

  16. Will most likely buy this to keep the collection intact, aside from some of the singles and those soundtracks other than Oblivion. Was watching a doc about the moon landing on PBS last night and they used Outro at one point, thought to myself I haven't listened to M83 in awhile, and boom this happens. Guess I'm going on an M83 kick again lol Edit: this was my 420th post ayyy

    PO: Bon Iver: i,i

this is shaping up to be the kind of album i will at least stream out of longstanding interest in the artist making it but won't dare to preorder. deeply anticlimactic/unmoving stuff for me, hoping it'll work in the album context a bit more convincingly.

  20. yeah, I don't think its a crazy endeavour. Its a bit cringy when they say they'll buy more copies of Lover. I like supporting artists, but super weird to buy multiple copies of a record to support a multi millionaire sticking it to another multi millionaire

  21. they're right to be fair. they're voting with their wallets because they don't want to support the label

  22. Looks like Popmarket is blowing out the exact same shit as Deepdiscount (and some of it's at cheaper prices!): https://www.popmarket.com/closeout-crate/b236603?mod=AP&ft=LP+Vinyl Their free shipping starts at $100, though.

    PO: Ghost - Meliora

That stinks about the red and white smash. That doesn’t really go with the artwork like the yellow does. Not a big deal for me though. I haven’t seen any shipping yet, but I’ll definitely let you know what I get.

  30. All I ask is they go back 10 years to my own personal favorite era (The Con/So Jealous) despite it not being as nearly successful or current as their electro mainstream breakthrough era. Is that too much to ask, Tegan and Sara?

  31. I made the mistake of leaving this thread and checking out more of the board. There are people contemplating ordering a $400-$600 Jonas Brothers set. It's a scary, scary world outside of this thread.
