  3. I'm gonna say this nicely. Throw that "record player" in the trash. Smash it. Burn it. Use it as a coffee table. Join TRNQT and throw it in the crowd during a show. There's no helping it.

  4. When the entirety of Pneuma drops out so the guitar can play a crunchy, riff-laden take on the main melody before the drums come back, bringing cymbals; fuck. The longer tracks with all their ebb and flow are giving me the same kind of “rewarding replay value” that I get from the likes of Swans, Isis, and Sumac – dense music with a whole lot to unpack and notice during each and every replay, but enough to appreciate moment to moment, to keep you reeled in. It’s a songwriting approach that’s easier said than done and my hat goes off to them for it, even if it took them over a decade to dial in.

  5. Not to sound redundant from the last Tool thread, but as someone who’s a casual fan of the band, the new album continues to get better and better after leaving a decent first impression. I’m legitimately into this record a lot more than I probably should be; certainly more than I anticipated I’d be after the title track single.

  6. No one should have to finance the purchase of a vinyl record.

  7. It looks like the record is sitting on top of the 45 adapter? Is the record laying flush to the platter?

  8. The new record is brilliant and my expectations were a little low since I was fairly disappointed with 10,000 Days (to be fair it was because Lateralus was so good and so hard to top). Tracks 2-5 especially just hit on every level for me and I avoided any live spoilers so they were all new to me. The production is awesome, it sounds like you’re in the room with the band. Looks like they’re not coming to Seattle or Portland so hopefully another leg is on the horizon.

  9. Only six tracks. Besides, everything Mark touches these days, as much as it pains me to say, has gone to shit. $28.98. Easy af pass.

  10. By the way, there are at least 4 identified variants out in the wild according to Reddit... Tool being, well Tool(s). 😆

  11. There’s not a weak song on there, that’s for sure. Culling Voices is maybe holding up the rear but there’s no denying how infectious that “don’t you dare point that at me” line is, again and again. No moment quite like that on the album. An aggressively fun song compared to some of the more sprawling epics. Maynard’s voice and delivery choices were my weakest link on first listen. At the same time it’s tough to fault the dude for sounding different and being eager to try new things after 14 years. I never got into APC but I’ve read that comparison a good bit. It just takes a little getting used-to, and then you’re set. Isis with Chanellor subbing in like he does for Panopticon, maybe? That’d be wild.

  12. It blows my mind that hasn't happened. I just won't drop the 2 bills needed for it but would love to own it as well.

  13. Not sure I want/ need, but I'll probably buy anyway. Can we get a STS reissue already? Shit would sell like crazy.

  15. No new album until the beginning of next year sadly. I saw sean opening up for xiu xiu a few months back and outside of two songs it was all new stuff that sounded really good.

  18. Not sure if anyone around these parts are/were into that dog from the early/mid 90's but they've gotten back together and recorded a new album. originally, only available for pre-order via digital platforms, they announced this morning a vinyl pre-order on amazon (seems to be the only place to pre-order) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WFJ97C7?pf_rd_p=183f5289-9dc0-416f-942e-e8f213ef368b&pf_rd_r=25M7V8786305C508DM5X

  21. ^ This I wonder if the hole for the spindle is not cut quite straight. Like the a side goes down easily, but the b side hangs up. I used to see that on LPs from England in the '80s. Maybe carefully hit the hole with an xacto blade. Also, great job making a post that was well presented and thoughtful. I'm amazed that no one has shit on it. Although that "record player" tho...

  22. Super stoked. Been waiting 3 years for this. Bought into their Kickstarter when it first launched in 2016. Seen them live twice since then. I really hope we get a different variant for getting in ground zero and waiting so long.

  24. I'm not the biggest fan (ripped Ænema a ton back in high school) but this album is incredible! First listen last night along with the lightning storm we had in KC was an experience.

  25. He did a Beats1 interview a week or so ago, saying they were using several plants to press this up to get this out today. While I'm assuming the cut and the jackets are the same, I'm curious to see if there will be variations in quality on this record depending on the plant used.

  26. Is side b significantly bowled and warped. I saw quite a wobble before slow down. Your turntable sucks and since its rotating based off arm position the arm may be stopping the platter on warp

  30. As a long time fan of the band I feel the same. The track single is literally just the intro, albeit a long one. Pneuma gets things going for real and I agree with one of the previous comments, it's up there with Tool's best tracks, at least imho. In other news, I'm glad that I nabbed the lossless leak, no sign of the album on Tidal (yes... I'm one of those...) and my Amazon.com copy hasn't shipped yet. Oh well...

  36. Still no sign of 1965 being given a general release either, I'm sure I read this was planned after they sneaked it out on Black Friday a few years back.
