  1. Happy 20th! https://www.polyvinylrecords.com/product/year_one_demos https://shop.americanfootballmusic.com/product/year-one-demos-12 Tracklist: 1. Five Silent Miles (Demo) 2. Song #1 / Song #2 (Demo) 3. The Summer Ends (Demo) 4. For Sure (Demo) Clear vinyl. One time pressing, limited to 2000. Liner notes by Steve Holmes and Steve Lamos. Earliest recordings of the band. As American Football’s seminal eponymous debut album turns 20 this year, the band and its label, Polyvinyl Record Co., are celebrating the occasion with a collection of newly mastered and previously unreleased instrumental demos. Year One Demos documents the first proper demos ever recorded by the band and features versions of tracks that would later appear on their debut album and ep. “American Football was never intended to be a real band.” guitarist Steve Holmes writes in the liner notes for Year One Demos. “The band was our creative outlet, and gave us something to do outside of schoolwork.” The recordings found on Year One Demos are a glimpse back at that inauspicious time. According to Holmes, these tracks were “recorded in May of 1997, right after the end of the school year, in the basement of Steve’s childhood home. We’d been a band for all of four months, and these four songs probably represented the best of what we’d written up to that point. Steve Lamos recently unearthed the 1/2 inch master tape (otherwise we would have used these songs for the LP1 Deluxe Reissue). The songs were “engineered” by Steve’s dad by setting up two vocal mics at 90 degree angles, setting the levels, and hitting record.” Year One Demos is a fascinating snapshot into American Football’s ongoing story as one of the most influential bands in indie rock.

  6. They have a festival going on right now so I’m sure they’re quite busy. I’ve ordered from them lots of times with no problems.

  7. They are most definitely not gonna scam you, ordered countless times and never had a problem. I'd say just be patient.

  8. This new PSOTY fucking SLAYS. It’s like Fragments but cranked to 11. I’m into the vocals a lot, but they don’t dominate the album. There are a couple instrumemtals & long periods in the songs with no vocals, so if you don’t dig them, maybe they’re sparse enough to not hurt the album for you. As a whole I will say the songs are a bit one dimensional & at least the first time through can be hard to separate from each other, but it’s just so LOUD & dense I don’t really mind. The first real tempo change doesn’t hit until a couple minutes into the 3rd track, but it hits right before things get stale imo. My other minor gripe is that there isn’t a lot of depth to the drum beats, but this album is definitely about the nuclear guitars & bass. Which btw, definitely some moments of Tool-esque bass in here. A nice element especially after getting back into Tool casually lately. Listen to this one cranked as loud as you can. I wasn’t gonna splurge on vinyl but I may have to change that. ”Queen of Hades” is my early favorite. That’s when that Tool bass really kicks in & then it’s filled in with like shoegaze-post-metal.

  9. Seems like a big gamble to drop 33 bucks on a compilation that in all likelihood will have "My Girlfriend" on it. My picks: Over Thinking - Two Lefts Don't Make a Right... (2003) Jefferson Aero Plane - Two Lefts Don't Make a Right... (2003) Be My Escape - Mmhmm (2004) Who I Am Hates Who I've Been - Mmhmm (2004) This Week the Trend - Mmhmm (2004) When I Go Down - Mmhmm (2004) Come Right Out and Say It - Five Score and Seven Years Ago (2007) Forget and Not Slow Down - Forget and Not Slow Down (2009) Therapy - Forget and Not Slow Down (2009) This Is the End - Forget and Not Slow Down (2009) Bummin' - Air for Free (2016) Mountaintop - Air for Free (2016)

    Weezer "Van Weezer"

Weezer is essentially 3 different bands now, all called Weezer and featuring the same members. Rivers just cranks out a ton of rock, pop, and nightmare studio atrocity songs and saves them in a different folder until each gets to 10-12 songs. As far as the long pre-order lead in, I think Weezer probably haven't finished the album but wanted to join GD and FOB on the synced release date scheme. I'm assuming the posted release date is worst case scenario and it actually gets released way before then once they finish the album.

Interesting. I don't think there's a bad song on it. LA Girlz and California Kids are definitely up there with my all time favourite Weezer tracks though

  19. Meh. I like a mild splatter sometimes. Like when it's a clear w/black splatter and 80% of the record is black, shouldn't you just have gone with black?

  23. Does this Green Day band have anything to do with the 90s band Green Day that broke up after their final album Warning? Cause that band was pretty good and this is not pretty good.

    Weezer "Van Weezer"

If recent history is any indication, this will be an entire album of Van Halen covers, but only songs from Balance, III and A Different Kind of Truth.

    Shoegaze/Dream Pop Thread

For anyone who knew & was/is into Center of the Sun and MTHR, vocalist Ally Hoffman has been doing a new project, 4444. They’re more in the indie pop vein & pretty awesome. Their first proper track is up now. They also have a killer cover of JAMC’s “Just Like Honey”.

  29. Regarding the current cost of buying items from the US it may not be an option here, but I crossed a line a few weeks back and bought something I wanted at a similar price from the US on paypal credit.😣 I didn't open the account specifically for that purpose, but figured another few pounds a month over 12 months wouldn't make a massive difference.
