  4. The "scam" I posted a couple weeks ago was about how I reordered a bunch of records I'd purchased when they were ~70% off. Deep Discount had previously responded to one of my emails saying to notify them when something returned to stock if it had been in an order that was cancelled. I did that and gave everyone here a heads up, assuming a lot of others had experienced immediate DD cancellations. The reaction was... something. I didn't bother following up when I heard back since a number of folks felt the need to step in front of a bullet for a mega online retailer with clearly suspect selling practices, but hey, to each their own. The upshot is that DD responded to my purchase with an email that said something like, oh, actually, when we said you could reorder that stuff, we meant it had to be within 10 days of your first order. Details! Is the reorder-a-cancelled-purchase-within-10-days-to-get-the-original-value a stone cold fact? Given who we're dealing with, probably not. But I received a notice this morning that Liquid Swords (one of the July 4 sale titles) was miraculously back in stock a week later. šŸ˜ Shocking šŸ˜ I went to DD and saw a number of other titles that had been on sale last week. I placed (another) order for Liquid Swords, then sent DD an email with the details of the two orders. We'll see what happens. User poll: Do you want to hear if DD ends up refunding the difference? To vote yes, reply "yes." To vote no, put on your cool kids shades and fire off a pithy quote reply. šŸ˜Ž

  6. http://deeperblue.bandcamp.com/ Thanks for looking. It's instrumental. My label is strictly instrumental; if you have an instrumental project, please stay in touch. There are two pressings: Japan press - superior quality - ships Aug 13 200 black vinyl, 1st 30 in silkscreen print sleeves (4 left). Europe press- 170 purple (169 received and 100 copies too warped to distribute). 30 black These arrived warped and the cut is bad. I went through 2 cuttings and gave up with this plant. So the records are given away for free with orders of the Japan press above. Black comes with silkscreen. About 4 of each left. But also there's a hand-painted jacket version, also 4 left at the time of this post. Due to pandemic, Japan Post has temporarily suspended acceptance of mail to USA, Brazil and Russia... Purple (8 left, 4 in hand colored sleeves) Here is Japan press mock up Silkscreen print ~~~~

  8. When they did the "Writing the Future" mini-tour closing out the cycle for that album, that song was the encore. Honestly the stage/lighting concept for that show was one of my favorites. It was mostly pretty simple - all white lighting, big wash lights along the back and sides of the stage, simple white spots and profiles, mixing up the lights in cool ways did cool stuff with it. They really told a story just with that really simple lighting concept and it was extremely cool imo. Late in the show it turned out there was a small series of LED lights mounted like vertical sticks - on a mic stand or a stand for one of the wash lights, along the edge of an amp stack so you wouldn't notice, stuff like that. Also all white. They used those in maybe the last 3 songs of the main set and that was it. Then they come out for the encore and do "Future". The only lights are those LED stick lights in white. When it gets to the end of the quiet part, they did it live so all the instruments faded out/stopped while there was this looping thing of just Hayley's voice, the individual LED lights went out one by one, and then the band kicked in and it was color lights for the first time in the whole show. They kept doing some more cool shit with the lights but I thought it was insane how they went white lights only for the entire show until halfway through the encore. They also did the audio fadeout in that song - everyone kept playing but they lowered the volume on everything, so the only thing you could hear was the unamplified drums for a minute, then they kicked everything back and slammed the ending. They did some really cool stuff with the arrangement for that live performance. One of my favorite live show moments ever. I just found this on youtube which gives you a pretty good idea: As if to drive home the point, the first song they played on the PA for filing-out music after the show was Failure's "Another Space Song". Anyway they're big fans of Failure and Hum so even if that doesn't make itself super-obvious all the time, it's definitely in there. This song is probably the only album track where they just dove 150% in that direction.

  11. Stupid gimmick is ... stupid. To the actual discussion on the man: I'm not licensed to diagnose behavioral health conditions, but by all accounts, he's seems legitimately bipolar. I work in social services and spent time around all types of people with varying degrees of issues and he fits the description perfectly. From Wiki: Bipolar disorder, previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder characterized by periods of depression and abnormally elevated moods.[4][5][7] If the elevated mood is severe or associated with psychosis, it is called mania; if it is less severe, it is called hypomania.[4] During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy, or irritable.[4] Individuals often make impulsive decisions with little regard for the consequences.[5] There is usually a reduced need for sleep during manic phases.[5] During periods of depression, individuals may experience crying, a negative outlook on life, and poor eye contact with others.[4] The risk of suicide is high; over a period of 20 years 6% of people died by suicide, while 30ā€“40% engaged in self-harm.[4] Other mental health issues, such as anxiety disorders and substance use disorders, are commonly associated with bipolar disorder.[4]

  12. Well damn, that sucks. I might shoot them a message on FB and pester them there. I both the 2 -year 10% coupon around this time last year and it has definitely paid off. When you factor in free shipping for $100+ it's a really good deal.

  13. Indeed, 20 Buck Spin has been killing it as of late. I feel like they'e entering late 80's-early 90's Earache quality in terms of band signings and releases. I wish they would do an annual membership plan, I would be all over that in an instant.

Bump. From Bandcamp: "Hey, hello. Just wanted to say hi and thanks for everything over the years. I have two things that Iā€™m excited about right now. First, Iā€™m going to reissue Beacons, Let Yourself Be Huge, Fade, and Subsume as a 4xLP set. New artwork, audio has been reworked, Subsume has been remastered. 500 copies, hand-numbered, signed. The works. Iā€™d like to do more copies but theyā€™re ridiculously expensive to produce so this will probably be it. Second, I finished a new album called ā€œSolitudeā€. Itā€™s 49 minutes long and will be a 2xLP. I had 94 straight days at home not working, and this is how I spent it. 8 hours a day, every day. 2 tracks feature Sacha Dunable from Intronaut doing cool stuff like slide guitar and mellotron and using all sorts of strange pedals. The digital version has been mastered by my old friend Erol Ulug from the disgustingly heavy band Teeth. The vinyl is being mastered by Dan Wilburn who mastered the latest Intronaut record. I donā€™t know when these things are going to be released but Iā€™m hoping I can coincide one or both of them with the 10th anniversary of Beacons on 9/16/20."

  17. I've definitely noticed this as well. I've found I'm much more likely to get flimsy, glossy inner and outer sleeves with a noisier or lighter weight record from a US press and sturdy, matte inners and outers with a nice, quiet heavyweight disc from a Euro press. Most recently this happened to me on Snow Patrol's Reworked. US press felt cheap and sounded awful but the Euro press is gorgeous and absolutely feels worth the money.

  19. Yeah... I mean, Iā€™m sure it goes both ways with exceptions, but on average I find that my Euro imports are much nicer than stateside presses. Both in vinyl quality and packaging.

  22. From a news report I saw: ā€He does not appear to have registered his name with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for November's election. The closest name the FEC database shows is a candidate called "Kanye Deez Nutz West", who filed their papers with the Green Party in 2015 under the address "1977 Golddigger Avenue, Suite Yeezus" and appears to have raised no money.ā€

  24. Weirdly enough he actually checks a lot of boxes most people couldnā€™t. Beyond a doubt committed to black communities and minority issues, and poverty in general. ā€œChristianā€ enough that if Trump got a pass, he could too. An undeniable independent to break the two party insider system. Elon for cabinet, Kim for public outreach, and potentially could be endorsed by Obama and Trump at the same time. Probably not Bush though. Plus he could fund universal healthcare with the ticket sales to the inauguration concert. Iā€™m down
