  6. Have zero use for CDs or DVDs as I have no way to play either. But I’m a sucker for box sets so I am going to pencil in a preorder for the expensive one while also placing a separate order , in ink, for the not-so-expensive edition.

  7. This. Absolutely this. Unless I’m getting my copy signed in person, which is free, signatures don’t mean anything to me. If it’s included, I won’t scoff, but I’m not paying more for it. I’ll always take a book over anything really, besides more music. Like I said in the AIC thread anything else is fluff. I’ll especially take a book that gives me insight to the album. Love listening to the album and flipping through the book. That’s kinda the point of tangible music, right? What am I gonna do with a poster or a signature? A print is cool but I’ve never really liked one that’s come wit

  8. Same. I'm bored with Gumbo-core. I love that Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky have been comfortable exploring new territory. I skip over a lot of post-rock these days.

  10. Unbiased opinion from someone who has only listened to Nothing here and there: This album is good. I like it a bunch. The last half is better than the first. But it builds and I think that's the point. If you like this band, you'll enjoy this LP. If you've never listened to them, ever, this could be a good starting point. I don't regret the deluxe purchase, but the mylar bag is unnecessary to me. The booklet is fantastic! No squinting at a tiny printed insert. Overall, 8/10 package & 8/10 record. I would have been content with any decent sounding colorway, but the "bla

  11. Comparing first listens, I think I like Dry Fantasy more than the premiere of Coolverine. I love that song now in context of the album, and it gives me chills. I can see them putting some noisier/heavy elements on this too based on the art. I know a lot of people clamor for the delay-heavy crescendo post-rock of their earlier material, but I honestly think Mogwai get better and better with every release. Their album-crafting is top notch. Three years into Every Country's Sun, and I still can't get enough of that record.

  12. (Maybe I'm just thinking of that Rave Tapes bonus 7".) Yeah, I honestly think I like this new single more than I liked Coolverine on first listen. Coolverine was working that "big , spacey crescendo" angle. Like you said, I think Dry Fantasy is more of a vibe. Great melody, texture, and pacing without being too synth-heavy. Really dig it. I like that it's not the opening track, either – seems like it could nestle itself nice before or after a "banger". I hope they whip out at least one track on par with Old Poisons on this record – the grit and style of the album art feels like it'd

  13. It’s actually $175. I’m still an idiot. All for the love of the hobby, right?? Or, in my case, the feeding of a never ending addiction that may kill me faster than any other one I have. Oh well! ☺️👍

  24. That’s interesting – extra packaging and art or “accompanying media” that captures the essence of the album or band seems more interesting or cool to revisit than some scribbles that you weren’t even present to receive in person. To each their own of course, but I guess “signature fascination” is fascinating to me.

  25. Oh wow. Haven't listened to this in some time and cannot even begin to speculate on how it holds up, but my friends and I played the absolute shit out of this in high school. Probably the first "heavy music" album I bought.

  28. A few folks are reporting that their copies are showing up, which is awesome to hear. I want to emphasize that I completely forgot who got what; all mailers were about the same size and weight. Minus whoever got that Sleigh Bells + bonus LP. That was a hefty mailer and instantly recognizable upon lifting it. Hope you all enjoy your copies. Thanks again for making this happen in such a tight timeframe.

  34. Moving outside of post-rock a bit has been what's kept them interesting to me. I've mostly gotten bored with the genre, but new a new Mogwai releases still excites me. Wrecked my weekly budget a bit, but I went for the deluxe box.

  35. Nah not really. I have a spin clean or whatever but rarely use it. I just pump a ton of money into the hobby and then don’t even take it seriously. I’m pretty weak.

  36. I thought it was, only because I've voiced that opinion a few times on the boards only to have most everyone rush to RT's defense. Which is cool, I get it – there's some nice stuff to love on that album. But like you said, I think it has the most "skippable" content from just about any Mogwai release. It also feels like a pretty meager offering being a single LP – what was the last single LP before that one? 2003's HSFHP? (Mr. Beast is technically 1.5 LPs, right?) I get what you mean about needing to be in the right mood for HWND. But that's sort of how I feel about the major

  38. Sometimes I feel like I'm the odd man out, but Rave Tapes was a stumble in their catalog for me. I don't hate the album, and the peaks of the album are tremendous – Remurdered, especially live, is something I'll never tire of – but sandwiched between HWNDBYW and ECS? Tough spot. Otherwise, yeah, their main discography is aging beautifully and I do admire how expansive their sound has become. Their early albums will always hold a special place in my heart though. Not strictly because of the production or prominently delayed guitars... but because I feel like there was a real culmination of
