Interested in trying to license some albums, but have licensing/contract questions
sabukweli and 3 others reacted to bevilacq12 for a topic
I appreciate the warning, but that is honestly exactly my expectation. I want to get involved, and there are some releases I want to see that I don't think would ever happen otherwise, so I'm happy to buy in with money and time.4 points -

On the subject of cancelling, I will say that anyone who went to that racist insurrection on Wednesday or supports it or is too dumb to understand what it was and just calls it a "rally" should immediately be cancelled.4 points -
Interested in trying to license some albums, but have licensing/contract questions
MrScorpio and one other reacted to bevilacq12 for a topic
I'm interested in licensing a few albums that currently lack physical releases. I don't have any expectations of profiting from this - it's just something I want to do, and if it ever even breaks even, that's just a bonus. It'd all be very niche artists, so I wouldn't be approaching labels that would have their own licensing structure - it'd be more approaching small independent artists, and the onus for structure / documents would be on me presumably. I would primarily be paying a lump sump of money to an artist to license their music for X copies, and then I'd manufacture and sell those X copies. I'm trying to figure out what legal responsibilities would be involved (mechanical licensing, etc.), and I also want to create a professionally worded document for my contract with artists. I want to protect myself, yes, but I also want to make the artist comfortable that they are protected as well. I have absolutely no intentions besides manufacturing and selling the agreed-upon X physical copies, and I want that to be clear so there is no suspicion of the potential for their music to be exploited in any way. I know this forum used to be involved with that kind of thing. Does anyone have experience with this, or know of a good resource or template for something like this? Thanks.2 points -

PO Now: Iced Earth Reissues
V3XED reacted to TheGhostOfRandySavage for a topic
From MetalKaoz.com Century Media will release the first four studio albums of ICED EARTH in July. "Iced Earth" and "Night Of The Stormrider" will be released on July 10th, "Burnt Offerings" and "The Dark Saga" will be released on July 17th. All four albums will come in gatefold sleeves featuring the original LP artwork. Layouts have been kept close to the layouts of the original vinyl versions as well. Each LP includes a 60x60 artwork poster and 180 g vinyl. The LP sound has been kept in its original form, with a special vinyl mastering of Patrick Engel, known from his careful mastering works for bands as JAG PANZER, EXODUS, TROUBLE, TOKYO BLADE or CANDLEMASS, delivering you the best vinyl listening experience of these US power metal classics. While "The Dark Saga" has already seen one vinyl re-issue in 2010 (which is a rare edition by now), the first three ICED EARTH albums have never seen an LP re-issue since their initial release. As prices have reached ridiculous heights lately, it's time to offer you these outstanding and influential albums for a regular price. The albums "Days Of Purgatory", "Something Wicked This Way Comes" and "Horror Show" will follow in the first quarter of 2016. Century Media's Euro store is selling all of them: http://www.cmdistro.de/Artist/Iced_Earth/175?Sort=13 Nuclear blast also has these available http://www.nuclearblast.de/en/products/tontraeger/vinyl/lp/iced-earth-iced-earth-re-issue-2015-.html And amazon. It is what it is man. Punk rock in general is pretty hypocritical when you think about it. It's a genre based around negative feelings, being as anti conformative as possible, fighting the system, yet every punk band is trying to be successful at what they do by making a living selling music. That alone is pretty hypocritical lol. I still listen to the newer stuff but not like I used to. The band was one of the first shows I ever saw on the new kind of army era. I still really dig the earlier records, I dig them as people, I'll be picking this up.1 point -
