  3. Good news update. Accepted an offer for a full time remote position with a fast growing startup, formalized my exit of big corporate just a few minutes ago. Can't wait to be back in an agile organization.

  4. Picked up a copy of MOP today, gonna give it a spin tonight hopefully. Looks like that had all of them in stock at my local store. My wife sent me for baby shampoo, and this is what happens.

  7. Hey yall, I would assume there are a few people here looking for a copy of this classic album. Two new pressings, and I would expect them to go fast! x/500 https://thecontortionistband.bandcamp.com/album/intrinsic Update: 18 Splatters Left!

  8. Corey's style has become very recognizable around here it's always cool spotting a new cover he does. And I may have paid $35 the other day for the last copy of something Newbury had that I would have regretted missing so it makes me feel better talking shit about them hahaha.

  9. I have the OG. I don't need this... But I ordered a splatter. Hoping for a MYS repress and S/T in the future! Probably the one band I've seen live the most (second being ETID) since 2003

    All Things Slow Crush

No indeed, it’s mostly to re-release on the 2 new labels. album 2 is being mixed as we speak.

  13. Based on the 2 posts above, I’m going to just cut to the discussion and ask... why? If the presentation is junk, and the sound quality is butt, why even waste the money on a boot? Is it the epitome of hoarding or consumerism? Is it being able to feel proud that the album – or some bastardized rendition of it – physically resides on the shelf? I’ll never understand it. Vinyl is a nice, albeit spendy medium to enjoy music. The extra cost and effort to play the music is typically justified by the immersion, the physical presentation, or the enhanced audio – if it’s been properly mastered and not just digitally ripped. We’re talking about downgrading those things on all fronts, and paying someone $50+ to do so? What am I missing? For the vast majority, boots are boots for a reason. They miss the entire mark of what vinyl has to offer. I’m not a purist who insists that OG copies are the only answer (especially if a repress or reissue is available for cheaper), but willingly paying $40+ just to spin a shit version of something you could just as easily stream at better quality... what’s the purpose? Arguing that it may never get pressed or repressed? Okay. I mean, I guess. But it’s remarkable how many “impossible” releases I’ve seen come to fruition over the years. Albums where the masters were (allegedly) lost for years on end, or where the rights were gridlocked in court by the labels. It just takes time. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see Frank Ocean’s Blonde reissued someday, despite the insistence it’ll never happen again. At the end of the day it’s your money and I’m not going to seethe over the way you spend it. If your MO is to have something tangible – laughably cheap and sloppy as it may look or sound – to tide you over until a hypothetical repress happens, and scratch whatever weird “physical medium” itch you have... that’s perfectly alright. I just need to know if anyone else is as lost as I am.

  14. Welcome to the boards. I hope to be actively interested in vinyl at your age. Like MCDELTAT mentioned, this board lends itself to a lot of limited, newer releases and reissues. I'm not too sure where your tastes fall – outside of Pink Floyd – but you may have the most success by monitoring specific "catch-all" threads – classic rock, metal, jazz, etc. They seem to get updated with news of reissues a little more frequently. Most of this forum is fixated on new age trash, pressed on colorful wax limited to < 1,000 copies. As such, we are no stranger to playing the pre-order game. And especially with Covid delays, placing an order that's supposed to take 6 months - but having it take 7-9 instead - is kind of accepted as the new norm, unfortunately. Sometimes the advertised product doesn't even include all of the features or color of the vinyl that we were led to believe we were purchasing. It's a frustrating hobby to keep up with, at times. But not as frustrating as ignoring a release / pre-order in hopes of just "picking it up" later, only to find that all available copies are $80+ on the aftermarket. Anyways, it sounds like you won't really have to bother with most of that nonsense. Most of us are a slave to FOMO – Fear of Missing Out – which is why you'll see so much scrambling in a lot of the pre-order threads. We're all just trying to stay ahead of the curve, and score our favorite limited releases to avoid gouging our wallets down the road. The majority of users on the board are passionate about the releases they're ordering and discussing, but there are a handful of diddlers that lurk here and snatch up anything that's gaining buzz, in hopes of making a quick buck once it sells out. Don't be one of those guys. I'm sure you'll find something on VC that strikes your fancy, at some point. But until then you may have to wade through a lot of goofy pre-order threads. And if you ever develop a thirst for overpriced 7"s of Nickelodeon themes, or reissues of circa-2005 Hot Topic hits, we've got you covered.

  15. Sounds interesting. Unfortunately for most of the records released here they are very limited, sometimes only 300 or 500 copies, so the threads mostly serve as the community coming together to make sure we all know about new releases from bands we are likely into. That's about it. Then we either rejoice when it's a good album or hit ourselves when it's not good.

  19. That setup will be more than enough for a room that size. I've had an Orbit Special with 2M Red for a little over two years now, and have nothing but nice things to say about the turntable and the company. The only issue I have had was a weird hum, which I attributed to a grounding issue, as it would stop when I touched the tonearm. After a few quick emails, they sent me a nicer pair of RCA cables, and a ground wire that goes from the white RCA to an outlet in the wall, which fixed it. Super friendly support staff too! As Alan said, the belt can be a little annoying, mainly when trying to go from 45 back to 33, as it stretches out a bit. Only takes like a minute to contract back to the original size though, so its not a deal breaker IMO.

  22. I bought an Orbit Plus in August of 2018 and I love it. I had to replace the stylus back in the fall, and had some alignment challenges, and like was said U-Turn was easy to communicate with through email. The only thing I don't like about the turntable is manually moving the belt from 33 to 45 rpm--sometimes it falls off and doesn't go back on as easily as I would like.

  23. Fair enough. I didn't connect that that was who did the artwork. That's pretty cool. Usually I don't order from Newbury for the reasons you pointed out but they got me at a time where I'm super into the album and couldn't find a copy to buy. They win this round.

https://www.brooklynvegan.com/belgian-shoegazers-slow-crush-reissuing-aurora-watch-the-new-aid-and-abet-video/ New video. I saw Slow Crush 1 year ago today with Grivo and Burial Waves. It was the last show I went to before the pandemic hit besides a small local show. Not being able to go to shows bites.

  30. My two cents is that I've had mine since backing the Kickstarter campaign and in the (8?) years since getting it I've had two technical problems. In both cases, they troubleshot it over email with replies very frequent and timely and they provided me with replacement parts to bring my table up to speed given improvements they'd made to the design over the years. So, that said I can't tell you it's the BEST table out there, BUT my experience has been nothing short of amazing and something is to be said for good customer service.

  31. It's dumb if it isn't updated, but calling it dumb to swap the title from "soon" to "NOW" when something drops is hardly dumb. I guess it helps if your taste is basically just massive pop albums where preorder Swiftness doesn't matter, but to most of us it's appreciated.

  32. I like this tune miles better than anything of the last record. Cautiously optimistic? I don’t need them to be all dirty and heavy all the time. I just don’t need the Foo Fighters thing we got with the last record.

  33. I have both, and I’ve always thought Frances sounds great. Never had any issues or complaints with the audio quality of that record. About 5 years ago there was another bootleg version of Frances that to me sounded great as well. Very on par with the OG and honestly couldn’t tell them apart. Great quality bootleg. I like the way Frances sounds. deloused on the other hand, the OG silver is not that great. It’s a picture disc so it’s super noisy. The MOV reissues from a few years ago are so much better quality. I don’t even listen to the OG anymore. There was an older bootleg as well that at the time was a better option than the OG, then the MOV versions were the ones to go with. There’s a new deloused bootleg as well that I believe comes from the same place as the current Frances one. I don’t have that one yet but some people are saying the quality is not great either. but if I can find it under $100 i will most definitely buy a copy to add to my collection. Crazy that they’re going for over $100 on eBay. That’s too much

  35. Very understandable. I still revisit YAWIAM for just how grimy and fun it is. There’s a moment on this new single that sounds like it was cut off the last Strokes record – which I really enjoy, let the record show – but like you said, that’s just not what I aspire to hear when I throw on DFA1979. And yeah, I get that it’s silly to expect to them to remain stagnant or sound identical after such a lengthy hiatus. But even with a bigger budget and new production tricks, they could still manage to explore their older sound in a new direction that isn’t so... pop and cheese, I guess.

  37. The white w/ silver is quite literally the colors of the artwork. Idk why someone would think that silver ink wouldn't be visible on a white vinyl when there is silver text on the white cover as a prime example lol. I get that "white vinyl sounds bad" and is a fair audiophile point but I'm sure it'll sound good to the majority of us. Also I'm positive if they just did black vinyl people would be actually crying haha

  38. Most threads here ARE for sharing pre-orders or new music coming out. Usually, once a thread's topic PO is released it devolves into discussion of said release. Sometimes threads devolve into discussion about the artist (see: Marilyn Manson). And even more common is Shaq and Cat gifs. Welcome!
