  1. I heard Jim Adkins clutched each record closely for no less than 10 seconds while whispering sweet nothings to the universe. And there's gold flakes in them.

  2. lol Thanks! I happen to be a collector as well, just not vinyl. I greatly value the details of what I collect, such as condition, editions, rarity, or even history/context. I guess that's why I want to do the research, to find the best option available

  8. I've been comparing some of the first pressings with the boxset. Here's what I found: -Boxset sound quality is superior across the board -Cover art is more vibrant than on older pressings, and the deloused jellyfish artwork for the boxset is a different take than the one used on the mov pressing -For the most part, materials used on the originals are of better quality. Especially ftm. The original is like cardboard whereas the boxset version is flimsier -Vinyl weight is noticeably heavier on older pressings -Landscape Tantrums is awesome Overall, the boxset is sweet. You can tell a lot of heart went into making the music and artwork shine. It'd be nice to have an At the drive in boxset to accompany this one, but after reading the boxset liner notes, I doubt that's ever going to happen.

  10. I value a first pressing more than a limited one only if I have fond memories of the record on its release. Something about knowing that this particular item was in circulation when I loved the album adds value for me. Also, take into account the color. Is it aesthetically pleasing? Does it go with the album cover? It's really up to personal preference. Maybe slyly ask these questions and see what they value.

  13. This is correct. In 2019, Craft issued the remastered TAYF on iridescent green and black at the same time. They also facilitated the reissues of the Warner Bros. records all on black. The only album left out was WYWTB for some reason. I have Victory pressings of the first two albums from the mid 2010s - neither of them sound bad. Theyā€™re just fine. TAYF needed a remaster (or remix) to get rid of that high pitched squeal on the vocal track, but the Craft pressing didnā€™t even achieve that, so itā€™s pointless. WYWTB doesnā€™t need a full remaster, maybe just a couple tweaks for the vinyl format would be nice. Finally, I donā€™t know why people need represses of any of these albums. Thereā€™s tens of thousands of them out there, and they were $15 up until this year. Itā€™s like as soon as something goes out of print, people freak out and it demands a repress. No wonder plants are backed up until 2022.

  22. I'll toss in my 2 cents. I will seek out the best sounding pressing first, seeing if there is a 45rpm cut, a pressing mastered from the original tapes, or if it's an album not that old, a pressing specifically mastered for vinyl. If nothing like that exists, and all pressings are coming off the same plate, then I'll look for most limited next. However, if one of the variants goes perfectly with the artwork, then I'll prioritize that over rarity.

  23. In my experience with other box sets, the mere pulling out and replacing of albums from the set creates shiny scuff wear in the direction of the pull on the front and back faces of the jackets regardless of the coating (matte, gloss, high gloss, etc.). Its usually only visible under certain angles of light. Might be wise to bag each album inside the box. Shouldn't add too much more thickness to contend with the inner capacity of the box enclosure.

  26. Great question, and I wish I had a friend like you that put that much thought into buying me a gift! I'd also go with B or C, leaning towards C just because of the smaller quantity.

  27. I'd say it varies from person to person; I personally don't put too much stock in first pressings or anything like that, but I know that some hold them in higher regard, considering they become more and more rare as time goes on. How that stacks against something that is much more limited and newer is a personal preference. If I was in your shoes, I agree with the post above: B or C. bonus points if the packaging/artwork is non-standard

  30. I'd say B & C are good options. First pressings don't mean much to me anymore, especially if later pressings improve on the sound quality or packaging.

  35. Snagged a copy of Where You Want To Be. I'm not touching TAYF until they do a proper remastering that would include removing that god-awful squeel at 15khz found in the background of all Adam vocal tracks. Original: https://i.imgur.com/OisHcwW.png 2019 "remaster": https://i.imgur.com/ZBqUU2q.png S. Backenstoes remaster: https://i.imgur.com/GwDDGjP.png The solution? We need a bootleg of the S. 41. So after an hour of frustratingly trying 2 of my friends got tickets to Friday and Saturday, but Sunday was sold out. The other 4 didn't have any luck at all. I luckily got right in and got GA tickets for all 3 days. I guess years of going for Mondo drops and other rare stuff that sells out in seconds thought me a trick or two lol. I'm super excited. I'm staying 20 minutes from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem, PA (the best vegan bake shop I've ever had. I've been vegan 15+ years and toured the country eating many vegan goodies along the way. Vegan treats in on another level). So I'll be hitting that up each morning lol.
