  1. Fantano just shouldn't review.

  2. On a personal note, this rerelease is taking me back to ten years ago when I stumbled onto a vendor at our local record fair selling nice OPs of New Adventures in Hi-Fi and Electro-Shock Blues for $25 and $15, respectively and snagged them both. Probably the best deal I ever got, and yet it’s also convinced me to return to the record fair on a fairly regular basis (because you never know) with extremely diminishing returns.

  3. Ordered black from my local store then saw the coloured but missed out there. My original copy is one of the best sounding vinyl I own so hoping this lives up to it!!

  4. Just dropping in to say that ‘Plagues’ is a top 10 Converge song. On a personal note I got into them not long after Jane Doe came out and was blown away…then was initially disappointed when YFM was released. Thought it was a step back (I no longer believe this). Then they came out with No Heroes and had returned in all their glory. Great fucking record.

  7. Agreed. I would have bought this instantly if that cd disc of b-sides and rarities was part of the LP.

  9. Right on, that's not been my conception of them at all haha over the 3 times i've seen them on bills with other bands I've gone to see. When I think Pelican, i just think "riff after riff after riff" with no reverby atmosphere or post-rock elements. Just riffs. I will revisit though!

  10. Not Fat Wreck, but NOFX so possibly of interest; 30th anniversary splatter vinyl of Ribbed: https://kingsroadmerch.com/epitaph-records/product/20128/ribbed-30th-anniversary-lp-redblack-splatter

  11. Yep. Amazon has it up for PO, I’m sure others will soon enough as well.

  12. What a weird track list.... they are all brand new tracks to us, so not sure I need or want a re-imagined version of them. Also kinda strange to have Teeth be acoustic on Side-A just to put a full band version on Side-B.

  13. That works for me. Hope this isn't a GZ pressing that sounds horrible.

  16. Only just found out about this band, and loving what I have heard of the new record. Probably good and bad I missed the variant pre orders, but white is still available over here.

  17. lol - had it been more on the fucked up side I likely wouldn’t have liked it as much 😂 but it’s definitely on the lighter side. Reminded me a lot of Alone in that way, tense peril almost throughout but never trips that line. I do like some fucked up stuff in my horror, but I’m a completely softy when it comes to kids now. I really wanted to like Scare Me more (pretty sure I watched it the night it hit the service last year) - I remember the lead from back in his College Humor days - and enjoyed a lot of it, but I thought the end was pretty well telegraphed throughout so it fell a bit flat for me in the final third.

  19. New Tacoma Narrows is very solid. Reminds me a lot of the early Pelican LPs.

  21. After hearing the whole album I can safely say if you think they made another generic shoegaze album that sounds just like everyone else you have shit ears and are probably bad in bed. That is all.

  22. I think the spoiler tag no longer works but whatever, everyone is discussing it already. If you hated the singles, don't expect the record to win you over by framing them in a new context. There are 2-3 moments on the record that "go in" and will sate any fan's thirst for classic Deafheaven. But they are far and few, and the emphasis of the record – the meat & potatoes – will not be enough to warrant the price of admission if you're only on board for a metal fix. That being said, I think it's a pretty consistent record – the singles were not the best cuts nor contain the best moments. If anyone read reviews that praised the production and layering, those were right on the money. There's some tremendous moments that felt great to get lost in. At some points I found myself not really caring if it was or was not Deafheaven behind what I was hearing, to be honest. I'll also say that for as "out there" as some tracks get – whether it's George trying a new vocal delivery, or... well, George trying a new vocal delivery – instrumentally, the band finds subtle ways to keep you engaged and actively aware that you're listening to Deafheaven. Mostly Dan on the kit, but also a lot of the bass and chord progressions – little flickers that made me instantly recognize that I am, in fact, still listening to the same band from Roads To Judah days. I just don't think those flickers or the 2-3 "metal moments" are going to be enough for a lot of folks and that 53 minute runtime. I think they make the sounds of Infinite Granite work for them, and it suits them fine... but I don't think it's their best suit. The back half of Mombasa, for me, just highlights the wow factor that keeps me coming back to this band. There's a reason they saved it for the very end. It's all cards on the table and any track that would follow it would fall short. Again, just my 2¢. I'm eager to spend more time with the record and see what else bubbles up from the rich production choices. I don't regret my pre-order in the slightest, and I think anyone who was jazzed on the first 3 singles is going to be really pleased with the final product. But, yeah. Definitely the black sheep among their discography now. It'll be interesting to hear where they go next.

  23. Nice! Was trying to keep an eye on the venue page. Rather just eat the service charges than miss out again. Will say Mamiffer and Helms Alee are much more appealing openers for me, so that's kind of a bonus.
