Sing My Loves is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good

Really love this "surprise release." No singles or anything like that, just a few hour heads up that it was dropping at midnight. And in this age where vinyl production takes forever, I greatly prefer artists and labels waiting until they have the physical product in hand to begin sales, rather than having a pre-order like "vinyl ships in 2023." I ordered the navy and white vinyl from Bandcamp, and have listened to the album through twice--enjoying it, but I need to dig into the lyrics.

Yeah I can't believe this is the same band. They've definitely fallen farther into butt rock territory. Sad because I LOVED them when those first few records came out

We finished Archive 81 a bit ago, I loved it. Hits a bunch of notes that I really enjoy. Watched the first episode of Yellowjackets - good so far, really looking forward to it.

I'm hoping for a wide repress because I think it's really weird a band from the US has this repress and not a single copy was distro'd here. I was dumb and never picked up Time & Space but I see no point in overpaying for it. I live 2 hours from the band lol it just seems silly to not wait.

Antenna is an interesting turning point in Cave In's discography. At the time it came out, it turned off a lot of old fans because the record was trying very hard to appeal to a wider audience. Because that's what you're supposed to do when you are on a major label. It was supposed to be Cave In's Glow On--they did a late show appearance, they played festivals, they released singles. But then when record sales didn't meet the label's expectations, they got dropped like a hot potato. (At that time, selling 100K units was considered a failure I guess. I remember that number being bandied about.) And it seemed like the band went through a phase of real disillusionment and took a while to recover artistically. Long story short, it was a disappointment. But here's the thing--Antenna really *is* a great record. Sure, there's a lot of streamlined verse-chorus-verse songwriting by old Cave In standards, but it also has a lot of great hooks. Joy Opposites and Youth Overrided alone make it worthwhile digging into this thing. I don't think that all of Cave In's discography is equally worth celebrating. Naturally there've been some relative duds. There are some songs on Antenna that I feel pretty lukewarm about. But I've definitely come around big time to Antenna as a whole and it's cool to see that this is very much a shared sentiment these days.

That's what they ALWAYS were. Cool tunes, but nothing exciting to look at.

I mean, they have no bad album.

I'm pretty certain this will get a large repress at some point. I think everyone just needs to hang tight on this one.

I assume any time a label does a "mystery grab bag" type of deal it just means "hey we have dead stock whats the fastest way to get rid of it and make any money back?"
