  1. I may be in the minority here but I think Handwritten is a great album and think whatever they do next will more than likely be more similar to that than to Sink or Swim.

  2. I caught that too. I believe it said "lightly remastered" so I'm guessing that means they attempted to refrain from deviating too far from the engineering notes/perceived qualities on the initial pressing's mastering parameters. I have an original of this and recently scored an original Effloresce. I don't recall anything particularly wrong with the mastering on my copy of EIP but its been a while since I've listened to it. Its a great album and checks pretty much all of my boxes for the type of music that it is but as an album, maybe its the sequencing, but I find it a bit less of a satisfying listen than Effloresce which for all of its greatness, isn't all that much different of an album compared to EIP. It feels overall a bit less busy than EIP but "busy" isn't necessarily a bad thing as I'm a pretty big TMV fan and it doesn't get much busier than that while still maintaining coherence. I guess Dillinger Escape Plan can come off much busier than either TMV or Oceansize at certain times. I also dig them but admittedly haven't spun anything by them in some time. Still, I know I have great fondness for EIP but I don't find myself going back to it that much. I played it excessively around early to mid-2008. Maybe I got my fill on replays but I still insist its part of "my music." I like Frames a lot but there is some sluggishness happening around the middle of that album that make it tough to get back into. I was super into it when it first released though. Now that I think about it both Frames and EIP were integral soundtracks to some very difficult and dark times of my life so maybe that accounts for why they are so difficult to revisit. Its only dawning on me right now that that could be the reason. Anyway, Oceansize, man. Great band.

  3. Drop your rankings 👀 The '59 Sound > Handwritten > Sink Or Swim > American Slang > Get Hurt I also love the whole catalog. Get Hurt has some great moments on it.

  4. The first 3 albums were my high school years. They were the first band I ever saw live (July 97 and Oct 97) touring Colour and the Shape. Kind of fell of the wagon after In Your Honor but have listened and bought albums after it. I didn't mind Wasting Light and Medicine At Midnight. We lost a good one. This one's gonna sting for awhile.

  5. Love Handwritten! Came out at the perfect time in my life to be a top album forever, personally. As others have said, just happy they’re back and excited for whatever comes next.

  6. Bronchitis

    The Concert Thread

Jason Lytle last night and Lightning Bolt tonight. Both of those shows were supposed to happen March 2020, so it’s nice finally getting to see them. I spent way too much money on Sigur Ros and Phoebe Bridgers tickets recently too. I’m already pretty tapped out on seeing live music and have stuff booked out until September. I’ll probably take a break after all of those unless it’s something crazy.

  10. As a drummer, Taylor was always and will always be on my Mount Rushmore of influences and idols. I own and regular use his signature snare drum in my setup. Addiction is a lifelong battle. It never goes away, it may jus get easier for a time. But when it rears it’s ugly head, so often it came be the last relapse an addict goes through 😢😢 RIP Taylor

  11. Fucking Christ, so sad. I haven’t kept up with them in a long time but the Weezer/Foo Fighters tour in 2005 was the first show I saw as a kid that wasn’t Weird Al. Still one of my fondest memories.

  14. Worth calling out is that even after the swirl of this thread from last weekend, it remained dead and quiet since Sunday. In general, actually, I'd say that VC was calm and cohesive this past week. Imagine my complete and utter shock at seeing this topic bumped the moment babby's ban was lifted for throwing a temper tantrum. I know you lack reading comprehension and the ability to think critically, Scorp, so I'm going to break it down for you and keep it super simple: there was no actual bullying in this thread. A fellow VC old-timer – without a staggering post count – asked a genuine question about our resident spam bot. It blew a fuse and got defensive, so a couple of us stepped in to weigh in on that. Since you seem so fixated on post counts (being the first thing you mentioned when throwing in your 2¢ on page 1), I would actually say that a member with 2.7k posts was the one bullying someone with ~360. That's when Randy stepped in, followed by the rest of us. We all dropped some posts that you didn't agree with. (Despite, y'know, you allegedly saying that you have us all blocked.) You could've handled that in a number of ways. Not that I was expecting you to turn the other cheek or take it to private messages, but you could have at least kept that bullshit back-forth isolated to this thread. I think we all would've been fine with your signature brand of low effort gifs, and repeated displays of zero brain cells if you had confined your meltdown to just 1 thread, where it was not necessarily welcomed, but at least relevant. But what happened instead? Lil' baby Scorp shit his undies, waddling off into multiple threads to cry and scream. Threads you've never once contributed to, or for artists you have zero interest in. That's cringe. That's why you're a shitter and will always be a shitter. You got so flustered and upset that your arguments are less than worthless in this topic, that you tried to go around and smear us in other discussions. No one wants to read your bullshit in this thread; what makes you think other users want to read it in completely unrelated ones? Have a little empathy you fucking socio-dunce. That's why you got suspended. Not because we're all some tightly knit toxic tribe that shuns or bullies outsiders with shit tastes or few posts. But because you're a walking meme that eats out of our hands, and lacks the self-awareness to realize you're the exact joke we all make. The schizo who can't keep a lid on, and has full-blown meltdowns when he gets flustered. All while pretending that we're on his block list, but actually living so rent-free in his head that he can't help but spam unrelated threads with his personal beef. tl;dr – VC is better off without you and the last week has proven that. You're oblivious to what the real issues are, and always will be. I hope you lose your cool again and get suspended for even longer. Until then, cry more or fuck off entirely.

  17. So I'm not trying to "call you out," or be a dick by saying this, but its really obvious you haven't been on the forum very long or else you're a troll. There are people here who have been on the forum for a decade plus listening to and discussing music with each other The user you're defending comes off as the human equivalent of those old "FIRST!" comments on youtube. It took significant effort to even get him to post links to POs rather than just posting "X record is up for preorder," and then not posting anything or posting some weird facebook or twitter link that often didn't even link to the PO. What you're complaining about is tame as fuck. They're giving this dude the tiniest bit of shit so he changes his behavior which isn't typically in line with what the forum is, or historically has been. The "Vinyl Collective" actually used to actually put out records, so there was a lot of discussion about what to press, how it came out, all that. Having someone just pop in, post stuff that like 5 people give a shit about, and then never make any sort of effort to talk about the music with anyone is...weird and anti-social. It's like if I called you up randomly, told you the weather, and just hung up. That's it, that's all the interaction we ever had. It's weird. The mods really don't lock stuff unless it gets personal. The only reason these "clowns" seem arrogant is because people here are (or at least used to) be into music, often very involved in their local music scene, working with bands, listening to and discussing music, and suggesting new stuff to people - not just listening to the same shitty pop-punk garbage they listened to 20 years ago. I listen to that same garbage too still, but I'm not out here grabbing a bunch of PO links off reddit and then never interacting with anyone. If you really want just PO links, head on over to r/vinylreleases. They have you covered. This forum was here discussing music and ripping on people long before either of you came around, so if that's not what you're into, you already made some great suggestions for what you can do. You got it right in the first part. This is a community where people have always discussed music. It's not as hardcore into the production side of things as SteveHoffman forum, but we chat, make fun of each other and fuck around. It has certainly drifted in the past few years, but I used to play video games with a bunch of these dudes even though I've never met most of them, and I have met up with at least a handful of people from these forums, befriending some of them. It has never really been a place "just for pre-orders," and I think that is the part you're not understanding. Again, reddit works great for that, or you can always just lurk. I mean...ok?

  18. Nobody is saying that. I think people are just amazed that you're never not looking at a computer screen. It's like, hey, leave some robo-pussy for the rest of us, cool guy.

  19. Not just any pre-order links; only the finest dogshit and nostalgia-core. To be fair though, he has introduced me to some new bands that I hadn’t heard of, and now know I can completely dismiss.

  20. Les Savy Fav - Inches Although it's a collection of singles, I believe it's about time this anthology should be released as a LP. EDIT: Just asked them on IG, they said they'll ask the rest of the guys to reconsider it. I hope they do, I'm not a fan of putting single 7" records on at all. At a run length of 1 hour and 10 minutes I think that would justify a 2x LP set at the very least.

  21. I spend 60 hours a week in my truck, driving to all corners of my province for work. The phone signal is weak at the best of times, and in Canada it’s still the dark ages so we don’t have unlimited data without paying $75 a month extra. So I download or rip all my music and have an iPod touch (or Nano!) in the glovebox at all times. It’s reliable, even though this was a long and lame-ass story.
