  3. Maybe it's both? Kinda weird to wrap the Shiny-era artwork up with the Disarm clip.

  4. I grabbed SD on a whim at Everyday Music back when it first came out and ended up falling in love with the album. Glad I did because there’s no way I would pay the current price at all. I have never listened to a single song past Mellon Collie but will have to check Machina out when preorders go up.

  5. I got a new job a few months ago which has given me way, way better work-life balance, which means more time for horror movies 🙂 Some of the movies I've watched lately... The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976). I really liked this movie. Considering I usually like my slashers with a healthy dose of gore and sleaze, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Really great atmosphere here and for some reason the narration stuck a chord with me too. Allegedly based on a true story, this one is about a mystery killer terrorizing a town at night (hence the title). Hoping to catch the 2014 remake if/when it comes to Canadian Shudder. Fatal Exam (1990). I actually watched this twice because I didn't want to be unfair to it but I feel like I deserve a medal for spending 4+ hours of my life with this movie. I once thought "Don't Panic" was the worst horror movie I've ever seen but this might just be the worst movie I've ever seen - period. It's a haunted house/possession movie but it's so amateurish, badly written, badly acted, and badly recorded (yes, even the sound is noticeably bad) that it crosses from "so bad it's good" to just really, really bad. It isn't scary and it's far too long. Scare Package (2020). I can see how people would like this movie but it was a little too self-aware and meta for me. It's a horror comedy anthology that pokes fun at horror tropes. Joe Bob Briggs has a cameo, which I enjoyed, but overall it winks at the audience a little too much for my taste. A Bay of Blood (1971). A slasher with sleaze and gore - my favourite! Really dug this one. Had never really heard of it before but it was part of my journey through slasher history. Some good kills in this movie and now I see the "inspiration" for some of the F13 kills. Glad I stumbled across this movie.

  7. Good review, which I mostly agree with. I like the album and have listened to it several times, but so far the individual songs and melodies haven't hooked me in the same way that much of their others do. Not that I dislike them, more that they just haven't grabbed my attention on their own. But it's a pretty solid, even listen throughout.

  8. I think it's tour with Jane's Addiction. A while back, Billy said they had a planned tour for 2020/21 for the 25th anniversary of MCIS that would be heavy MCIS setlist but that would be postponed. Perhaps they're planning something similar since 2023 is the 30th anniversary of Siamese Dream. So the setlist would be mostly SD/PI songs. They've been using some version of the Shiny imagery for all tours since James came back.

  9. So this came out. Looks like only three of us were looking forward to it. I ended up cancelling my pre-order which still had not shipped as of the release date and I grabbed it from my guy's local record shop. Glad I went that way. The damn official band merch vendor was based in the UK and I would have been waiting my ass off for this thing while it was available right down the street. So the verdict: I would say this album has their catalog's weakest opening and closing tracks. "Champion" is more enjoyable that "Send Nudes" but it does NOT hit like any other album's opener. Its also probably the second weakest track on it overall with the closer being the weakest. That's tough for me when I've loved every other album's bookend tracks which is a quality that really drives me to re-spin them. "Hips" has to be the most satisfying expansion of their palette on this album. So many cool effects and performance styles. This is the type of track that invigorates a first listen to a new Warpaint album. Its so fucking cool. "Hard To Tell You" has instrument/vocal harmony sections that reference both "Mad World" by Tears For Fears and "Africa" by Toto. I'm not mad about it but it was slightly jarring at first. Song is good. "Stevie" has possibly the most beautiful bass/guitar chord progression harmonies of any Warpaint jam. Very uplifting and sweet sounding. Another awesome expansion of style with that interplay between guitar and bass. I really can't overstate the genius in that. "Like Sweetness" is a nice jam but its one of several songs that I still don't completely remember how to recite in my head for the most part. I do recall it having a great melody. "Trouble" stood out right away with great melody and an uncharacteristic piano driven progression. I'm still having trouble (no pun intended) recalling anything significant about the rest of the tracks aside from "Send Nudes" and I'm not super fond of remembering that track. Its melodically nice but the titular lyrical theme is just so mundane it really shuts me down about it. I'm hoping more of the back half will grow on me. I'm feeling generally positive about the album but it doesn't really have a track that can stand up "The Stall" or "Intro/Keep It Healthy" or "Warpaint" (the song from The Fool). Weird that they have a song named after the band itself. Its one of their top 5 best tracks though. One thing this album is missing for me is a lead vocal from Jenny. Its always good to hear her voice in front when they do that. Gonna keep listening of course. I am still enjoying getting familiar with it.

  12. Amazon has Free All Angels up as well for 16th September release https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09S6BF844 Ash's Twitter says 3 big announcements coming in the next 3 weeks so if 2 of those are 1977 & FAA vinyl, Nu-Clear Sounds might also be announced or all the vinyl reissues might count as 1 along with a new LP and a tour!

  17. Got my copy in. No Gangsta Boo on Love Again. Which is made weirder by the fact that the lyric sheet has the lyrics for that verse.
