Yeah they continue to use unobfuscated JS on their sites so I just look at the answers in the developer console. So you type a password into the bulletin board “between paradise and defeat”. If anyone is going to get into collecting (and hopefully listening to) records, they need to know that a relatively high percentage of records will sound noisy even if they are brand new. It depends on a variety of factors in the production process, and no record label or pressing plant is immune to this. In my experience, records pressed in Europe are slightly less likely to have these kinds of defects, but as in the Ayam example which I also own, they're definitely not perfect either. Record cleaning machines are nice to have, but can't do anything about crappy pressings. It's frustrating, because some records are practically perfect (like the recent My Bloody Valentine reissues), so if proper care is taken in production it can obviously be done, but so many are sloppily produced and have glaring flaws. Until you buy a copy, it's hard to know what you'll end up with. You can check Discogs listings for certain albums, as people will usually report if a pressing has issues, but that's not always reliable either. The bottom line is that you either have to make peace with this reality, or just stick with digital. If I get frustrated by the vinyl version of an album that I otherwise like, I'll usually track down a CD instead.

I was selling records at a local record sale this summer and a guy I hate was trying to clown me for selling Ryan records ($20 for 2LPs, not like $300 for a Burzum LP) I went and looked at the guys Instagram later that night and he was happily posting about being at a show of a disgraced local creep who had been called out for engaging in a nearly identical list of gross behavior that Ryan did. Just wanted to contribute to a legendary thread here 👍

My copy arrived this last week. Spun it this morning, this has to be one of the best sounding records I've ever heard. Some static pops on one side (avoidable on my end), the rest is completely dead fucking silent, was blown away when I listened to it. I still count myself very fortunate for having been online during the right 17 minutes, still don't get that release strategy but I'm happy I finally have this album in my collection, this was pretty much my only grail record.

$22 before shipping for a 3 song 10” record is a war crime
