End of an Ear is the best one. But you'll probably prefer waterloo.

Josh is one of my good friends and I've actually talked to him about licensing the rights to this to do a small pressing of it. I've found a few copies of it in the wild but most were near the KC/Lawrence area where most of them originally sold. If I end up doing a reissue of it with the full band's blessing (maybe impossible) then VC will be the first to know. For those of you that really want to find it, look at places like Love Garden in Lawrence and Zebs/Vinyl Renaissance/Mills in KC. It shows up in those spots semi-frequently, as does Your Majesty. As for Vagrant, as far as I know they do not care at all so waiting for them to do a reissue is probably not worth your time

Not bad, especially for an album that's long overdue for a reissue. Thanks for the heads up OP!

Don't waste your $$ on the old pressing of Peregrine.  It wasn't well-done.  I'm rectifying that now.

For anyone interested, I have made an official statement regarding the matter.   The band and I have worked everything out and chalked this whole situation up to a communication breakdown and misunderstanding.

This will be the last time that this is addressed publicly & i hope that everyone who was against ETR can see how things unfolded in my experience. Thanks again to everyone who purchased the release and the on going support of the VC community. ETR has almost a dozen more great releases planned for later this year

You know whats really stupid? A band giving PERMISSION and their blessing for a label to do something.

Then the label spends THOUSANDS of dollars setting it up and pressing it, etc.

Then the band stirs shit, acting as if they didnt give the OK, and then not understanding why Ross/ETR couldn't just bail out on the project without losing thousands of dollars.

THEN THEY ASK FOR SOME FREE COPIES. Really? ETR's release isn't cool but you want some free copies?

Look, anyone with any business background, or just plain common sense, can understand why ETR couldn't just bail out on this halfway through the pressing, when the band's manager even apologized for not getting back to him.

Additionally, its completely legal and legit. Ross didn't EVEN HAVE TO reach out to the band, but he did out of respect. If you know anything about ETR's history, they don't press things if the band is not cool with it, ever. They've gotton permission from labels who own all the rights in the past, but turned the pressing down because the band wasn't giving approval. So the band can't even act as if they didn't give Ross the OK to begin with because ETR has never, ever done that to a band.

Based on Ross' "stellar" grammar skills and long, run-on paragraphs that are painful to read, how am I not surprised that there are communication issues with his releases...

That was a totally different situation. Ross was new to everyone at the time, was completely unproven as a record label owner and had no track record. He fucked up, and I think he'll willingly admit that. He's since put out dozens of records with all sorts of bands, active and broken up, big and small, and it's clear he's gotten better at what he does, because people continue to work with him and promote the product he creates.

Would I reissue something on vinyl without telling the band? No. But clearly, that's not what Ross did here. And the only reason people care is because it's 1)an active band and 2)someone who's easily reachable—aka not Music On Vinyl, 4 Men With Beards, Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, etc. All of those companies buy the rights to releases all the time and reissue them with all sorts of bells and whistles, likely without the artist's involvement. Do you think those limited colored pressings Newbury Comics are doing are signed off on by the artist 100% of the time? Doubtful.

It's an artist's job to create art however they deem appropriate. It's a record company's job to sell that art however they deem appropriate. As someone who has nearly 15 years in "the industry," let me tell you that band members are typically the most out-of-the-loop people when it comes to their own careers, which is why they react emotionally and publicly to things like this instead of trying to politely and professionally get to the bottom of it behind the scenes. Such is the creative mind, I suppose.

I like Cartel. I like this record. I like Ross. I bought a copy, which puts money in Ross' pockets, who already put money into Cartel's pockets, because the licensing fee he paid to Epic most likely included royalties. There is no loser in this situation, except people who want to pretend they understand how the music industry works but have literally less than 1% of a clue.

LOL at everything and everyone, ever. The self-righteousness associated with this medium specifically is astounding, and the common idea that all bands are saints (yea man you are so creative and your lyrics changed my junior year of high school bro!) and all labels are evil is hilarious.

Ross, you're in a tough position because you cater to an audience that buys into this silly false sense of morality.

Go blame Sony/Epic for not caring enough to fill in Cartel if you're such noble soldiers. Go blame Cartel for signing a contract giving up control of their masters if this is so unfair. Or don't buy Ross's record. But this laughable notion that anything was done in poor taste (fuck legality, which is not an issue) is just a goofy sentiment. Ross went out of his way to make them aware and to me that's more than most do.

And guess what? Licensing a record is NOT HARD. Look how many "labels" there are doing it. They had, I don't know, TEN YEARS? to secure the rights to do their own version.

This is why I only buy records from soul singers that died 50 years ago at this point.

    ...and the Paranorman score.

Your right - you probably don't have the slightest idea what the mark up is.  HYPOTHETICALLY speaking if ETR is to net $5,000 dollars off of this release (my guess would be less) what do you think that breaks down by hour?  A project over a year in the works.. Also assuming this is a one or two man operations and they have homies helping pack / ship / etc.  Wouldn't call this a money grab or even close to it.  Done arguing with you about this, like I mentioned before you don't have a clue.

Dammit. Woke up to this. Asking for a refund.
I had a bad feeling about it after ordering: hence the reason I questioned it. The whole "secret release" strategy. The band not positing about it. The band previously saying in an interview they wanted to do something deluxe for Chroma.
Sending request for refund now. Sorry Ross.
