  1. http://onceuponageek.com/images/starman_vol1.jpg Star Man 'Sins of the Father'. When I first read it, I wanted it to be a movie starring John Cusack. It would be perfect.
  2. sweet dee would be the best scarlett ever. It's absolutely dead on. I'd also like to see her in a dress made out of things from the bar, or eating out of the trash yelling something about 'never going hungry again'.
  3. I get my sleeve completed next thursday. I'm pretty excited about it too.
  4. I think that nails the 'overrated' criteria. I know way too many people that enjoy lots of good movies that think it's great. I don't get it. It seems sophomoric on every level.
  5. all i could think of after reading this last paragraph is 'gee, the cast of it's always sunny should remake gone with the wind for an episode. it'd be spot on.' I would support that! That's really funny.
  6. Um. I have indeed watched the movie. I have seen many movies on the civil war, and none have such a derogatory, stereoptypical depiction of blacks. Every black character is pretty much like this: Aloof, inept, intelligence level of a 4 year old, wouldn't know how to live if it weren't for the whites keeping watch over them. It's an ugly stereotype with a long history, and it's prevalent in Gone With The Wind. I'm trying to figure out what "it was the goddamn civil war" is supposed to mean. I get that the Civil War-era South was still very racist, and it's expected that it'll be portrayed that way in film. GWTW doesn't even do that, though. It just basically romanticizes the "simpler time" when people could own other people. PS: I'm 12 years old, but I'll be 13 in April! My age comment was based on your mention of 'a different time'. It seemed uneducated and ignorant. Key word being 'seemed'. I'm not calling you uneducated and ignorant. I guess I viewed the movie differently than you. I didn't see the use of slavery as romanticizing it or longing for a simpler time. It was a fact that it existed, Prissy was very weak and weak minded and fell apart when she was needed, Mammy did the exact opposite. Hell, it's all opinion I just couldn't possibly disagree more with your characterization. I look at Gone With the Wind in many ways the way I look at The Godfather. The main characters aren't people that you are supposed to root for. They are self-serving and loathsome. Scarlett is a selfish asshole that takes everybody's chance at happiness and turns it around to suit her needs. She's awful. Melanie Rhett and Ashley would have been far better off never knowing her. The very ending of the movie is an exclamation point supporting that.
  7. UGHHHHHHH. 4 hours (and 2 VHS tapes!) of rich people complaining about their totally OK lives. Shit predates Eat Pray Love by 70 years. And it's so fucking racist. I get that it's "of a different time" or whatever, but can we all agree that the different time was a horrible racist time when black people were basically portrayed as monkeys, and never mention Gone With The Wind as a "good" movie ever again? I highly recommend that everyone read Videogum's WMOAT series. There are some "classic" (as well as infamously bad) films demolished in amazing detail. Did you even watch the movie? Racist? It was the goddamn Civil War. How old are you? What the hell?
  8. I do EXACTLY the same thing with my live recordings. Plus I was at this show: "Cat's Cradle - 4/11/96".
  9. http://www.simpleshoes.com/ProductsList.aspx?categoryID=289 The overload and the combover are both really good.
  10. You don't like any other SAMIAM? I think they just got better over the years (and I think The Bridge from the S/T is one of the best songs ever recorded)
  11. I didn't catch the meanings behind the color breakdowns before, that's a new one. This strictly-limited UK vinyl pressing comes on two different variants, both of which are derived from the band's previous vinyl releases: 2x12"s 'SamStray' split colour -"Samiam" LP originally pressed by New Red Archives on Transparent Purple -"Astray" LP originally pressed by Hopeless Records on Solid White 2x12"s 'ClumDown' splatter wax -"Clumsy" LP originally pressed by Bitzcore Recs on Transparent Red -"Whatever's Got You Down" LP originally pressed by Hopeless Records on Yellow Splatter They gave a little homage to the prior colors that Samiam records were pressed in. That's all they were saying.
  12. You've gotta be close to my age, mid 30's? I couldn't begin to disagree with the original post.
