So how's everybody been? This summer I also got to do lab research for a few months which is pretty great. My car died right before I came back home though, and I don't know how I'm going to be able to afford payments on another car on top of rent/food/etc, so that's what's on my mind at the moment.

Cars suck, do you live near public transit or have you considered a cash car?

  3. @billya Was my SS I opened it on Christmas day but completely forgot about posting.  I don't feel like getting everything out to take pictures but I was gifted a the following

    The Weeknd The Hills remixes

    Beyonce's Lemonade

    Drake's Views
Phoenix Alone on Christmas Day 7"
    Zombies R&B 7"

Thank you I really enjoyed the Zombies 7" and I've never really sat down and listened to Lemonade and was pleasantly surprised after listening to it the other night so thanks a lot man, you picked out some great choices.

So I waited until Christmas morning to open up my Secret Santa box that arrived almost a month ago. I can not figure out how to attach photos here anymore and am too lazy to open up a photo bucket account or whatever you crazy kids are using these days, so we will have to rely on the good old written word here

    I am afraid.

First thing I saw when I opened the package was a very thoughtful handwritten letter describing the selection process for all the gifts included. I am the first to admit that my intro here was pretty bare bones and my current want list is pretty short (a few of the reasons that people hate buying me gifts). My secret santa combed through my collection and bought records that he/she felt would fill gaps in my collection and I am super appreciative for what I received.

First off, Death Cab for Cutie - Something About Airplanes - https://www.discogs.com/Death-Cab-For-Cutie-Something-About-Airplanes/release/6409096

I had never heard this LP before. I have downloads of Plans and Narrow Stairs which I enjoy but couldn't get into Transatlanticism at the time it was released so never went any further back into their catalog. Spun this last night and really enjoyed it.

Second LP up was  Sonic Youth - A Thousand Leaves - https://www.discogs.com/Sonic-Youth-A-Thousand-Leaves/release/8761043

I was a big fan of Sonic Youth when I first started getting into music around 1990 and was a big fan of Dirty, Goo, and the more mainstream singles from their earlier releases. I stopped following them after that time as they got more mellow and my tasted were getting a little heavier. Now that I am a bit older and my tastes have caught up this is a great time to check out some of the releases I have missed out . Look forward to spinning this shortly.

Third up is a band I have never heard of - a blind buy local metal group to the SS - FOGG - High Testament - https://www.discogs.com/Fogg-High-Testament/release/7146287

The hype sticker claims it has "gnarly shredding" by guys who "worship at the altar of the almighty riff" so I don't see how I could possibly go wrong with this one.

The letter had 3 clues as to who my secret santa is: 1. Twin Peaks 2. Texas 3. Tea. I used my sweet ass detective skills as soon as the SSs were assigned and saw that Green Tea Papi had viewed my profile (helped me remember to log out before  viewing the person I was assigned)

Thank you @Green Tea Papifor an awesome gift. Merry Christmas!

I'm glad you enjoyed everything I gave you.

Yeah I passed on it last year thinking it would get a wider release...I'm weak and I just put in an order because I'm not about to make the same mistake twice.

I'm lowkey holding out for a yellow cover version of blonde. We had worldnet hoodies last night so maybe just maybe we'll get blonde again

  6. Hey hello my names Eric 20 years old, I'm a photography major and I currently live in NYC/Dallas. My main hobby is collecting clothes as well as photography( I shoot analog). I still enjoy music don't let that fool you, I just don't collect like I used to and a bulk of my collection is what I like in high school. I play video games but it's pretty much random JRPGS and Overwatch (mercy main btw.) I also make music on my own and when I get a chance.

Music I like. I listen to a lot of hip hop and R&B for the bulk of my listening. The Weekend was at one point my favorite artist but my current favorite is Frank Ocean. I love dreampop, slowcore, shoegaze; bands like Beach House, slowdive, My Bloody Valentine whatever you'd like to call it. I also have a soft spot for old school emo like American Football and The World is a Beautiful Place.

I also love me some good cozy 00's indie like Vampire Weekend, The Drums, Arcade Fire etc.

But if we're being 100% honest my favorite genre would have to be 80s japanese city pop/funk. So think Pocket Park, Sunshower, Adventure; but it's super fucking niche that being said if you get me any of it I would be forever in your gratitude. Just type in City Pop on youtube and you'll get an idea. I love this stuff and I can't get enough of it

I don't watch tv shows, but I'm fucking in love with Twin Peaks; my first tattoo was a Twin Peaks tattoo and I've seen every season at least twice. I love love movies though; I'm very much a style over substance person; I like my films bloody and pretty. My favorite directors are Dario Argento, Sofia Coppola, Jean Luc-Godard, David Lynch and Satoshi Kon

I'm obsessed with Persona 4 and 5 right now. My favorite Superheroes are Zatanna and Gwenpool and my favorite color is pastel pink

To see what I'm listening to in real time here's my last.fm

My favorite albums of all time are:

    Tidal - Fiona Apple
    Blonde - Frank Ocean
    We Fall - Emile Haynie

There is a limited amount of 1 month subscriptions available. It was never an issue before because they never sold out of them but the last two months have had increased demand so the cap finally happened. You just unfortunately missed the window when 1 month subs were available for May.

Also, if you buy the record on Discogs for $80, you paid $80 for 1 record.

If you buy the 3 month sub and sell the other 2 for $15 each, you'd have paid $50 for 1 record.

    Spoiler

    It's still $80 I don't want to spend

You could but you wouldn't get 2 additional records if you buy it off Discogs.  It's insane that a record club actually wants you to join a record club!

Yeah but I remember prior maybe like Feb you could sign up for just one month and get the record you want it was like $35. It's not worth $80 becuase most of the records don't appeal to me and I doubt I'll get return on investment if I sign up unless they press another Thug or Demon Days.
