  1. Sound advice. Clearly you understand the purpose of research and why everyone seeks higher education... What’s wrong with doing something constructive for someone else?
  2. Haha it's all good! There has been an overwhelming response of truly helpful individuals. Thanks again everybody!
  3. Shout out to the person that said "Do your own research you clown" in the notes section All I have is my own experience with selling used records. How else would I do this research without the help of others? Trolls gotta troll I guess... Oh and to anyone that does want to BS and troll the survey I can just delete your submission with one click. Yawn
  4. Let's make this interesting. I will ship one free record to anyone who reposts the link to my survey in another forum/message board/facebook group that pertains to vinyl records. Send me a message with a link to the post and a preference of Rock, Jazz, or Soul/Funk. Don't expect anything crazy but the records will be playable. Thanks again to everyone that has participated!
  5. HUGE Thanks everyone! Also feel free to discuss some of the topics from the survey here.
  6. Wow thank you so much everyone! Some really great feedback from all of you!
  7. Hey VC community it has been a while since I have last posted. I am posting today because I am conducting a survey of people that sell used records online. TAKE SURVEY HERE This feedback is extremely helpful and I would greatly appreciate it. If you are a big time seller or have only sold a few records online I want to hear from you. It will only take a few minutes and as I said this information will help greatly in a project I am currently working on. Thanks in advance! -Matt

  10. Just heard that sandbag will be sending out 12 x 12 prints that are actually signed for anyone who ordered the box set.
  11. How did this happen? The only preorder I really wanted to grab... Can anyone soothe the pain and reassure me that they will be available again somewhere else?
  12. I am going to grab one when the refund for my Weeknd box set goes through
  13. What would you recommend upgrading the cartridge to? It has a pickering cartridge that is gold colored and it looks like a newer stylus. (sorry cellphone pic) I mean it sound pretty good given the price and the amount of dust that was caked on the outside. What all is involved in "tuning" a turntable? I am still going to get it tuned I am just curious as to what actually goes into tuning a turntable.
  14. Okay cool that's what I thought. I would love to ask the folks on audiokarma but I don't have an account and registration is closed -__- Anyone know if AK will be opening registration back up anytime soon? I have a guy repairing some other audio equipment for me right now so I will probably just end up picking his brain. Thanks for the feedback!
  15. I recently picked up a Kenwood KR-6400 stereo receiver at an estate sale for cheap. It was in decent shape but I ended up deep cleaning it and refinishing the wood panels on it. I cleaned the pots and switches to eliminate the scratchy noise while turning them. I also replaced a couple burnt out bulbs so this receiver is lookin mean. The receiver sounds great through my KLH 900b speakers but when I hook it up to my Polk Monitor Series 4 speakers there are random little squeals/squeaks/chirps at higher volume. It happens a lot more when the loudness button is pushed on (to my knowledge the loudness switch just spikes treble and bass levels?). I tried the phono and tape input to see if it was maybe an input problem but they both yielded the same squealing noise at higher volumes (by higher I don't mean speaker blowing levels. this receiver is only rated at 45 watts per channel). I then tried the Polk speakers with another receiver (that is working fine) paired with the same two inputs (phono and tape) I tried with the other receiver and there is no squealing. So I have narrowed the noise down the Kenwood KR-6400 receiver and the Polk Monitor Series 4 speakers. I haven't ever heard a noise similar to this one through any speakers before. It is hard to describe but very distinct. I was thinking that the receiver may need to be recapped since many of the capacitors installed in these vintage stereos were made to last 20 years. If that is the case than these are over due and could be leaking voltage. It could be that the smaller Polk speakers can't handle the voltage leaks from the capacitor as well as the larger KLH 900b speakers can? (not sure what voltage leaks even sound like but I am sure they vary from system to system) If anyone has had this problem before please help me out. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Edit: Thought I would add a photo of the receiver (cell phone pick :/) It looks too good. I just want to have it running perfectly
  16. Yeah just as far as the Marantz go, it's more of an aesthetic thing for me. I actually ended up finding a vintage Pioneer PL-12D at an estate sale for $13. It works perfectly but could probably use a tune up. I am pretty savvy with other audio equipment but when it comes to tuning turntables I am still in the dark. However, the Pioneer I found did satisfy that vintage need I had. It will definitely hold me over and give me enough time to research new turntables to upgrade to. Thanks everyone for the feedback.
  17. So it sounds like it's unanimous for the RP1. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will definitely be waiting it out to pick up the Rega.
  18. One of my local record shops has a used Marantz 6100 turntable with a Stanton 500 cartridge for sale for $199. I put it on hold and the owner said he would do it for $180 no tax. He said it works and that I could test it but I didn't have time today. Is this a fair price? Are there any issues with this certain model that I should be worried about? This will be my first TT upgrade. I currently have a Sony PS-LX300USB so I am pretty eager to purchase. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Or should I just save a little longer and buy a new table like a rega rp1?
  19. Thanks for the response. I took them to a guy that repairs speakers out of his home. He helped me test the tweeters by running a frequency while bypassing the crossover. Turns out both tweeters are blown. Even more bad news is that these tweeters are special because they sit in the middle of the mid and are apparently around $80 a piece. So I would have been looking at $160 plus labor to have them installed. That would have not been worth it considering I got the speakers for free. I ended up taking them to a stereo repair shop that sells refurbished equipment and traded them in for $40 store credit or labor.
  20. Okay thanks for all the input. I did not notice that that q30 only had the two drivers. I thought it was like the q50 but smaller. What do you think is a fair price for stereo repair labor an hour? I spoke with a man at one shop and he said they charge $85 up front for an estimate and if they can fix it that is applied to the first hour. This sounded a little steep to me. Especially if they find out that the speakers cannot be fixed. Then I am just out the $85 completely. With your experiences what have you found is a fair price for speaker repair? I am not opposed to paying an upfront fee, but I don't feel like $85 is fair. Edit* I would really like to get these fixed if possible because I heard they are pretty solid little speakers when working properly. I got them for free so I would be willing to spend some money on getting them fixed. What do you think a good amount would be to spend without wasting money would be? Basically what would you say the speakers are actually worth today?
  21. I was just given a set of KEF Q50s for free because they are somewhat broken. They are not producing mid to high frequencies. The volume is also slightly decreased. This problem is happening identically in both speakers. I have tried them on a couple different amps and they still have the same problem. At first I was thinking that the tweeters could be blown, but wouldn't I hear some sort of crackle like it was trying to produce noise? I was also thinking that blown tweeters wouldn't decrease the overall volume, so I have somewhat ruled out blown tweeters as the cause. Now I am assuming it is probably a crossover problem. Would the crossover from a q30 speaker work for a q50 speaker. The reason I am asking if the q30 crossover would work is because I cannot find any q50 crossovers but there are some q30 crossovers available which look very similar. Here is a back to back comparison of the specs for both speakers. The only difference I could see is the q50 frequency response is down to 45hz compared to the q30 which is at 50hz. I am not to sure what individual jobs the crossover over performs which is why I am asking for help. 22. I just found an original pressing of The Smiths - The Queen is Dead with a gold promo stamp on the front in near mint condition for 80 cents at a thrift store. It's the first original Smiths record I have seen at a thrift store. Needless to say I was hyped!
  23. Yeah I just found this dudes account through his signature. I thought all his prices were steep.
  24. I was just thinking this exact same thing. It looks cheesy. Thanks for the info raindownonme23. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
