  1. Anybody had to deal with returning an item yet?  Got home from work and my last record had arrived.   But not only were corners bent, one of the two LP's has a small chip in it and is lightly scratched.

Nope.  But I will be tomorrow because two records that I ordered arrived with good 2" seam splits and one of them had open shrink.  Unacceptable!

  2. I've got to say I was on the fence about this going into it.  The prices were too good to pass up though.  Strangely, they sent me some other guys box of stuff today.  I'm going to pull a GGG and drop it off to UPS tomorrow because I have the dudes address from shipping label.  That said, if any of you ordered up some Grateful Dead, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and a couple other records...your stuff is on the way.  Hang tight!

  3. I placed my order day before yesterday on in-stock items.  24 hours ship?  Wrong.  48 hours later and I've got zero confirmation except for the phone call I got from someone questioning the shipping address that I had to repeat 3 times before the guy would believe me.   Not feeling the love for ccmusic just yet...

  4. Well, I have been expecting...almost wanting even...to hate this record, but for whatever reason, I can't seem to.  After the initial cringe-y self-referential lyrics of "Shack" and then that gosh awful "Cleopatra" (which I still think is just fucking weird and should have been scrapped), I'm finding myself enjoying the album immensely.  What I don't get is the love for "Da Vinci".   Does anyone else hear "Pork And Beans"?  The whistling gets in my head and not in a good way.  *skip*

So yeah...toss Cleopatra and Da Vinci and it's a pretty solid album despite a few other awkward moments here and there - e.g. - the guitar work in the trilogy is kinda awkward in places, the spoken word portion of "I've Had It.." is a bit odd, and a few of the songs are almost too "color-by-numbers" Weezer tracks. the theme of the album is kind of  lame IMHO.  Would have preferred different (color theme) artwork and none of the Everything Will Be Alright stuff, but still a good effort and leaps and bounds better than anything since the Red Album.

  5. Much to everyone's dismay, SRC is putting it out.

Explain the dismay?  I've been hoping this would arrive on vinyl at some point.   Is it because SRC is doing it or...?

edit:  Just read that it's a limited and hand numbered.  Not thrilled about that shit, but not a huge deal either.  Still happy to see it get a release though.  It's not a bad album at all.

  6. They are my go to for cd's as I've ordered a ton from them in the past with no issues whatsoever.  Their prices are usually pretty good on most everything.  I have ordered a bit of vinyl from them but only last ditch if I can save quite a bit of cash doing so.  I say last ditch because I don't think they pack well.  They sent me a 7" once in a bubble mailer with no side support whatsoever.  As for LP's, the packaging was not bad, but not soundstagedirect or popmarket quality.  I've had some mixed results with LP's.  YMMV.

  7. A little followup on my order:  I placed on the 27th and by last Thursday still hadn't heard anything on it.  I sent an email and got word back that it would ship out on Friday.   Granted, last week was a short business week.  I'll give them that.  Still, it shouldn't take a good 6-7 business days to pack 5 records into a box and hand them off to a UPS driver.  Plus, had I not even emailed them on it Thursday, would they have even gone out on Friday?  And not sure if it even did...

As of today, I still don't have any email confirmation that it was sent.  No tracking.  Nothing showing up on their website under my account that I even placed an order.  Just a "thanks for your order" on an email reply.

In the end, I don't really mind the wait if a vendor would at least keep me up to date on where my stuff is considering they already have my money.  But regardless of the discount, or how convenient it is to shop with them and that I WANT to support a small shop, it makes me want to spend my money somewhere else.

  8. Hmmm... they've been solid with many. Can anyone speak on their shipping and support?

For what it's worth, I have had a few issues in the past, but they've always made good.  Around the time that they updated their website design, tracking and notification of my orders going out was pretty wonky.  Not sure if that was on the USPS side of things or what.  I know for sure that on one large order I made, it was over a week without any activity on the order.  I emailed them asking for status and got a call to my cell from one of the guys about it.  I was cool with that and let it roll off.   They got my order out that same day, but I can't help but wonder how long it would've taken had I not checked up on it.

My last order took awhile to arrive, but I didn't bother tracking it because I assumed they'd get it out to me at some point.  I usually order some MoFi and/or MOV releases and they always arrive in excellent condition.  No complaints there.  This order arrived in a reasonable amount of time in perfect condition.

I just made a pretty big order tonight using the code.  We'll see how it goes.  Thanks for the code man!  Enjoy your discount.

  9. A lot of great points here. I would like to say that Ringleader is tied with Viva Hate and Vauxhall and I for my favorite Morrissey album. The entire record just grasps me on an entirely different level than any of his other music. I have the tattoo to say so:

Enough boasting. Haha. Now that I'm really into it, I feel the strength on every track, especially I'm Not A Man, although I could deal without the first minute and a half of nothing and the "beef-a-roni" remark, but that's just Moz. Oboe Concerto, lyrically, is probably one of the best album closers I've ever heard.

Love the tat.  I don't have any myself, but I can definitely admire someone's dedication to something they love.  Very cool!

  10. Funny how the page count doubles as soon as there's a mishap with the hot topic variant. Haha.

What do you guys think of this record as a whole? When I received my ultimate bundle, I was excited beyond words, but when I listened to the album front to back while reading the lyrics, I was a little, i don't know. Confused, for lack of a better word. So I slept on it, and put the cd in my car and listened to it on my drives here and there and started to like it more. So I gave it a few more listens from front to back now it's 99 percent definitely my AOTY. Although, I don't think this album is for anyone who doesn't have an "intimate" (I guess?) relationship with Morrissey's music. I can see people being turned off by this record pretty easily.

Based off the pre-release songs that we got, I wasn't holding out much hope.  It's taken me awhile to warm up to the Tobias/Walker/Boorer combo.  Years of Refusal (which I enjoyed) was really urgent and Ringleader didn't grab me like Quarry did (which was much easier to digest...Ringleader felt forced to me at the time).  I think they got it right this time around though.  I agree with the idea that anyone that isn't intimate with Morrissey's music might be turned off, but I would't say that's any different that any of his other records though.  You either "get" Morrissey...or you just don't.

That said, I was a bit put off by this album at first listen.  The 1.5 minutes of nothing being the intro to "I'm Not A Man" still seems odd (especially as track #3...maybe better for an album closer or opener?) and '"Staircase At The University" seemed...lazy...with the lyric being repeated twice throughout the song (now, I think that song is damn near an instant classic with all of the elements that make a killer Morrissey track in the same space).  "Smiler With A Knife" spins it's wheels a little, but "Kick The Bride..." makes up for it.  On second and third listen, it really clicked and all of the songs just unfolded after that.  "Oboe Concerto" is like the cousin to "Death of a Disco Dancer" to my ears.  It's really a spectacular record from start to finish IMHO.  AOTY?  Maybe.  It's definitely my favorite album so far.
