If I seem sensitive or reactionary about the question of overseas shipping rates, it is because I miss the days of SURFACE MAIL. Essentially, people living in other countries had an option equivalent to MEDIA RATE in the USA. That said, I remeber the very first time I was told about "Special 4th Class" (as Media Rate was called at the time). It cost 69 cents for the first pound and (I think) 25 cents for the next few pounds... and 19 cents past that. That was probably 1986 or 1987.

I think Matt has done periodic tests just to see if there was a way to save $. Tests like, "What if we ship your large order in two boxes instead of one?" I believe that it is always a little more $ that way. It is better for everyone involved if shipping costs are lower, because you feel better and will order more stuff more often. The flip side to this is that when we order records from other labels, we are often paying $1 per copy to have a 2xLP shipped from Californa to Florida. That gets added in before we post a price for a record in the catalog. Five years ago, I bet it was only 60 cents, by comparrisson. So... it's all additive. To compensate, we offer $4 LPs versus the normal $12. Ha!

When overseas packages go OVER four pounds in weight, the costs go WAY UP. I have no clue why, they just do. Do some research, you will see that this is true. That said, we will be back in the shop on Monday and I will run some "test boxes" to check the rates and report back. Technology does glitch out too. Unfortunately, the sale will likely be over by then. All I can say is that IF the shipping is way off, we will issue refunds for the differnce... so... order if you like and roll the dice. We are always fair, as you know. Just please, no complaining to Matt, he will have a very busy week already, haha!

Looks like both USPS.com and our cart are in agreement that RECORDS ARE JUST EXPENSIVE TO SHIP OVERSEAS, especially when the box goes over four pounds in weight. Maybe it's better to go in with a friend and order more stuff at once? Or maybe that creates problems at customs? I dunno.

did you try a generic order for 5 separate LPs and 5 separate 7"? What does that come up as? I will check into it too...

The pressing plant did not ship them yesterday because they pressed them all and then discovered that they all had a nasty scratch and they are re-pressing them today. Allegedly. At least they did not ship them to us messed up. Of course, they also did not ship them to us in September, or October. Of course at this rate it will not be November either. Basically, abandon all hope if you press records in Nashville.

F.Y.I.: Looks like this issue started either today or yesterday. Orders from Sunday were still going through as first class overseas.

To quote myself, from earlier in this here thread, "Maybe once the 7" ones are gone. I'm not sure yet."

As was pointed out to us by a fellow in the UKtoday, our site is not offering people in Europe the "first class" shipping option, just "priority" (which is more than double). We cannot explain this and neither can our site host. It was working correctly before. Anyhow, the host is working on sorting it out. We are also working on a temporary fix. We know you'd rather pay $25 than $50 or shipping! USPS still offers both shipping options, so I assume one was NOT unceremoniously ended. More to follow...
