  1. The Civil Wars - Barthon Hollow. Had never heard or seen these guys before.
  2. I'm sorry. =/ I'm just trying to get us talking about buying records instead of being über anal 'bout everything.
  3. Hey guys! I know that we do have Ebay and so forth, but I was thinking -- are there any special websites that you use to get a hold of "special" albums or artists? I myself use Burningshed a lot to get my hands on Steven Wilson's drone music, PT music or his solo project. Anything you'd like to share? =)
  4. Oh, I see. So because I live in Sweden you are unable to send me this beloved piece of art. Well, I'll send Papa Emeritus II on you and he'll punish you, catholic style! On the other side: this is very nice of you!
  5. I agree. When we all were infants we knew everything about vinyl 101
  6. Thus, all of this butthutrness from a few people, for nothing.
  7. You do seriously think that a forum placed on the world wide Web should have a filter for things that are already out there? Why do we have the sell / trade sub forum? (because we'd rather trade in a community than to random strangers.) I do agree on that it is a smart solution to just use the search function. But he didn't. Worst thing is people who are tired of these threads read the title, enter the thread read and act like assholes. THEN act all anal when people tell them to stop being such Douchebags.
  8. yes I am. I was talking about some of the tips Google provided.

  10. Yes it is a relevant question. He is asking Vinyl enthusiasts (that being us) if he should collect new or old. Normally you'd have the understanding that old = worse quality. Maybe he does not trust google that much, since it is not to be trusted. I mean, if I had cleaned my records (as some google links tell me to) i'd have a non-functional vinyl collection.
  11. I could not agree any more with you. This is a forum, at a forum, you talk about things. The whole meaning of this forum would almost cease to exist if we were not allowed to ask like minded individuals questions. If i'd ask something about an artist, I'd rather hear somebody else tell me about it, rather than reading a long boring wikipedia article.
  12. I am quite surprised at many of the hostile responses, seeing as there is a difference to new vinyl and old vinyl. Newer vinyl (newer pressings) most of the time has a bit worse sound than older ones. If you are not an audiophile then it really does not matter, if you like vinyl, you buy vinyl. My boyfriend is not an audiophile and does not hear the difference between a CD and a LP being played, but he buys vinyl because he thinks they look cooler plus they always come in a bigger package. So when it comes to old vs new, just listen and find your preference.

  14. This will be quite a story, So I'll add a Tl;dr for you guys I have been collecting LP's for well over seven years now. I used to hang out at the vinyl subreddit (at reddit..) and Everything was nice and all. I thought though, In the end -- that you were not really able to socialize that much with the people of the subreddit. It was only people posting pictures of their newly bought turntables, turntables they found at a flea market, turntables everyone should avoid & pictures of their latest LP purchase. Not saying that it is a bad thing, but you never really could engage in a discussion there. There was this one guy who had gotten a Sun Ra LP (the magic city) and he simply asked "what is this?" He didn't know anything about the artist and thought he could get some insight from the members, instead he got slandered, and he got hated for not liking the music. I myself owning that album, do agree with his feeling to the music completely. Either way -- I thought in the end that the forum was only hostile after seeing what went down in that thread. People would post pictures of an LP they had bought on their turntable and would be treated terribly for owning a budget turntable and that they shouldn't listen to vinyl at all, and so forth. I am really looking for a forum that is into socialising, talking music & willing to listen & learn. So I used the power of google and i got here! TL;DR: Reddit subforum was bad.
