Box is pretty nice, snug fit for all four. Numbering/signature is not on the actual box but on a little slip that goes around it. Will possibly be spinning all four today to hear how they sound.

Neurosis - Given to the Rising repress coming this month. Hopefully other albums will follow up soon...

The FB post says new music is coming Spring 2022, so here’s hoping.

Perfect timing – just today VMP announced that despite all the headaches and issues with GZ – who handled De-Loused – they'll actually be using that plant even more, going forward. 👍

It was a St. Paul and the Broken Bones record, “The Alien Coast”  on neon green. I don’t recall how much it was exactly. Want to say $13-14.  

They had the Jesse Malin LP for $5 after that.

Literally what I did last night. Pulled the trigger on all of them. Limited to 300 and 31.50 a pop. Not great, but I’ve spent more on records in the US.

Originally told myself that I was gonna wait to see if we got US pressings, but ultimately couldn't do that. Needed all but FPU and the pressings for those look really solid, so just pulled the trigger. $32/piece shipped isn't great but it's also not terrible if you view them as separate items being shipped.

If you hated the singles, don't expect the record to win you over by framing them in a new context.  There are 2-3 moments on the record that "go in" and will sate any fan's thirst for classic Deafheaven.  But they are far and few, and the emphasis of the record – the meat & potatoes – will not be enough to warrant the price of admission if you're only on board for a metal fix.
 
That being said, I think it's a pretty consistent record – the singles were not the best cuts nor contain the best moments.  If anyone read reviews that praised the production and layering, those were right on the money.  There's some tremendous moments that felt great to get lost in.  At some points I found myself not really caring if it was or was not Deafheaven behind what I was hearing, to be honest.  I'll also say that for as "out there" as some tracks get – whether it's George trying a new vocal delivery, or... well, George trying a new vocal delivery – instrumentally, the band finds subtle ways to keep you engaged and actively aware that you're listening to Deafheaven.  Mostly Dan on the kit, but also a lot of the bass and chord progressions – little flickers that made me instantly recognize that I am, in fact, still listening to the same band from Roads To Judah days.  I just don't think those flickers or the 2-3 "metal moments" are going to be enough for a lot of folks and that 53 minute runtime.
 
I think they make the sounds of Infinite Granite work for them, and it suits them fine... but I don't think it's their best suit.  The back half of Mombasa, for me, just highlights the wow factor that keeps me coming back to this band.  There's a reason they saved it for the very end.  It's all cards on the table and any track that would follow it would fall short.  Again, just my 2¢.  I'm eager to spend more time with the record and see what else bubbles up from the rich production choices.  I don't regret my pre-order in the slightest, and I think anyone who was jazzed on the first 3 singles is going to be really pleased with the final product.  But, yeah.  Definitely the black sheep among their discography now.  It'll be interesting to hear where they go next.

Someone’s being a little dramatic.  Every thing?  Really?  I think Shelby and myself both partake in positive discussions across numerous threads and releases over the years.  We each occasionally take the piss in meme threads but in my time on VC I sincerely feel like I’ve discussed music and vinyl far, far more than I’ve trolled.  That’s a You problem with your perspective: listen to better artists I guess, maybe you’ll catch me outside of threads for Wasda-core.
 
I rib our resident public flipper, our SRC billboard, and occasionally the local Used troll.  I think that’s about it.  Oh, and ZeroNowhere, but that’s more like sorting a child out whenever he’s throwing a tantrum.  He posts in many threads regularly that I don’t bother prodding at.  But when he shits his pants and throws a tantrum in an effort to call me out, yes.  I say something.  So 3, maybe 4 turds altogether.  And justifiably so, if you ask me.  No new faces asking legit questions.  No newbies showcasing their modest Urban Outfitter collections.  Not even the brand new accounts trying to sell shit at absurd Discogs prices.  I seldom dump on bands I just don’t “get” the hype for [Turnstile].  All things said, I have beef with such a small fraction of this community.  Sorry you have such a gripe with that, maybe hang with a better crowd.
