  1. Miles Davis - In A Silent Way and Sketches of Spain sound superb on Mofi. Sketches is the best Ive ever heard this album, the soundstage is noticeably wider and the sound is magnificent. In a Silent Way is also amazing. If you are thinking about getting these records the Mofi is really the way to go if you can afford the $30 US price tag... recommended!
  2. I preordered this from Amazon. Light Up Gold was easily my favourite album last year, in amongst some other stand outs it really shone! And damn they are great live. Singles off this are awesome already, cannot wait! Anyone enjoy the tally all the things that you broke EP, it was great too!
  3. Bring on Washing Machine!!! might get this though as its not a bad price at all.
  4. Yeah I think the second time I saw them was amputechture (or around there) they were mind blowing! 2.5 hours straight no let up and then bang - gone LOL no encore or anything. Amazing really. I cant believe they ever sounded terrible considering how accomplished they were both times I saw them and also that for most of them this was by no means their first big band...
  5. Im much the same really, I like Frances but not nearly as much as deloused... saw them after Frances was released and I actually thought they were a lot better than before (it might have been later actually). Very happy with my deloused purchase. Really going to have to give it some thought as to whether I buy Frances when it comes out, it will be crazy expensive no doubt.
  6. cool well everyone is happy then ahaha. Both versions are great (and I would have had a copy of the RSD version if it had actually gotten to NZ) but I bought the MOV before the rsd reissue became available through amazon. Couldnt be happier with the MOV (minus the marginal warp). Bring on soup!
  7. if your needle rides them out fine without skipping (bouncing out of the groove) you should be fine...personally I always return bad warps (even if they play ok) as records should really be flat! I also have a vinyl flat to sort out any warps I cant return or would rather flatten at home. The warps may also cause your woofers to pump (lots of low frequency signal in warps) if your amp doesnt have a low frequency filter. This wont wreck them but is added energy they have to deal with that might take away from the clarity of your music otherwise.
  8. My copy of deloused came all the way to New Zealand (from USA I think, by way of the Netherlands). No seam splits. In fact I have never had a single seam split from MOV ever. Surface noise now thats a different story ahaha. Listening to this again today, gosh it is good! Anyone notice the terrible reviews Mars Volta got from pitchfork? Deloused got 4.9/10 and Francis got a 2!!! Those guys aye, this is one of my favourite all time albums! Not that I use Pitchfork to define my listening but if I did I might have missed these two great albums...
  9. Got my MOV on yellow vinyl today. Vinyl has a slight edge warp, does not effect play and a few ticks which will probably come out with a clean. No surface noise at all which is great! Cover is nice and glossy and it has an insert with lyrics etc. All in all a great package and sounds superb. Cant imagine the RSD release sounding much better to be honest, definitely recommended. I am so happy to finally have this on vinyl for a decent price. Beautiful album and a worthy addition to my collection.
  10. Led Zeppelin ripped a few artists off... shame they are awesome and the other artists were a bit well.... meh. Im waiting on these releases, they are most likely hi def digital transfers though which is a shame but I bet they will sound good (maybe not as good as clean originals but they are quite hard to find in near mint condition). Think ill get the regular release of I through IV and will probably stop there. There are pretty well priced I think.
  11. So anyone compared the MOV with the RSD repress? I hate waiting for mail orders as im so far away! takes forever.
  12. Just do a little more searching guys, there is plenty around about surface noise and MOV releases, especially the colour variants. I have 3 of about 15 MOV releases that have surface noise, one is particularly bad. The sound quality is great though, just a little grating with the surface noise (which im beginning to think might be a non-fill issue, should look more closely with a scope though). The only record I own that has this kind of surface noise is a flying nun reissue I purchased recently, so this is not a normal problem for other companies. Im not trolling either, I really like the company and their product, just wish they were a bit more reliable in their quality control. They have warp issues too from time to time... but I LOVE their choice of pressings, especially in the last year!
  13. I purchased mine through wowhd (thats my international pre order go to, never missed coloured vinyl yet). It still hasnt arrived in New Zealand, picking it will be here any day now. Cross fingers no surface noise (as it is MOV). Keep the reviews coming on this one, would love to hear how it compares to the RSD version...
  14. Limited mine to records that I own on vinyl, probably some others that should have gone on here and as per everyone else, this will vary based on any given day! Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36 chambers Modest Mouse - Good news for people who love bad news Tom Waits - Mule variations Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey Ministry - Filth Pig Suicidal Tendencies - ST Parquet Courts - Light up Gold Can - Future Days Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig lazarus dig Pixies - Surfer Rosa Honorable Mention: but dont have on wax yet or just didnt quite make the list - this could really have gone either way, hate lists... The Clean - Anthology The Horrors - Primary Colours NIN - The Fragile Mars Volta - Deloused in the comatorium Nirvana - unplugged in New York Miles Davis - In a silent way Beck - Mellow Gold The Doors - LA Woman The Flaming Lips - Transmissions from the satellite heart Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures The Ramones - Rocket to russia Fugazi - Seven songs
  15. I got my shipping notice for this a couple of days ago (MOV reissue that is). Anyone got theirs yet?
  16. The surface noise on MOV releases cannot be alleviated with a carbon fibre brush or by cleaning (spin clean or vacuum). I have tried both on my cypress hill record which has bad surface noise, far worse than this Mars Volta record. Deloused only has very marginal surface noise but it is there and can be picked up fairly easily with resolving equipment which is a shame, but generally the likelihood of this occurring seems to be lessening over the years. EDIT: I cannot comment on others experience with this record... the colours seem very hit and miss, some alot worse than others. Im beginning to think I may stay clear of MOVs coloured limited edition copies as they seem to have it more than the black versions which follow. Will keep buying colour but if I get another like Cypress then I will definitely stop buying the colours (But im such a sucker for coloured vinyl ahaha).
  17. ok son et lumiere -> Inertiatic esp... DYNAMICS KICK ASS! This version is seriously good. Quiet vinyl, pretty flat and sounds superb, talk about boogie. If your still trying to decide, just get it. Its that good. Ok side 2 is a little noisy to begin with... bit of a shame. Still sounds mean.
  18. My cop arrived 5 minutes ago, gold vinyl number 282, lowest MOV number I have it seems... havent played it yet (will do so later). The gatefold is great, not sure what else you could have wanted, short of cardboard inner sleeves. The cover colour is good (not over saturated like other releases from MOV have been) and it has a poster, inserts etc. This is great!
  19. Sad news! Unfortunately MOV at times can have noisy copies floating around...
  20. This... times a million. Ceds is just dark at the fact that MOV pipped him to the post. He's trying to dissuade others from buying the MOV press to ensure big sales for the nadie remasters, which will in all likelihood sound different enough for volta fanboys to buy a copy of for comparison. I will most likely not buy another copy unless my MOV is in bad shape when it arrives, or if the nadie copy is so different and awesome it demands purchase (I doubt it). MOV are an awesome company getting on with pressing hard to find records at good prices (although they are often hi res digital copies they still sound the bomb). I applaud their moves, Volta should have just been quicker to it.
  21. Eagerly awaiting mine! Shipped yesterday, hopefully that means I got gold! Really glad it sounds great cannot wait to spin this nice and loud.
  22. Awesome news on the sound quality, cant wait for mine to arrive, cross fingers I got gold, wont know till it arrives though...
  23. This is up on spotify now, gave it a listen last night and not sure if I like it or not to be honest. The singles are great though. I think it may be a grower (best albums normally take 3 or 4 listens for me to start appreciating them) so will reserve judgement until Ive listened to it some more. Having said that Primary Colours and Skying hit me immediately. Hopefully it grows on me, I really rate the horrors, and they are also sweet live.
