  1. First time checking into this thread. Stoked to see Touche getting some love, but damn if this wasn't one of my biggest disappointments of the year so far. I'll keep listening because I love this band, but after four listens it's easily my least favorite of theirs. "Savoring" into "A Broadcast" is the only time this album has any chance to build momentum, and then it's followed by one of their all-time worst songs. I was totally prepared to fawn over this but it's just so bland and poorly paced compared to Stage Four and ISB. Bummed.
  2. Not a hot take, I also agree. Versus was a major disappointment, but this first track is solid. Color me cautiously optimistic. Also: https://www.indiemerchstore.com/item/93661 US Link, looks like all variants are still available.
  3. Why aren't the Adieux songs on this? I remember being absolutely gutted when they broke up prior to that release.
  4. Tough to believe that TMS went from releasing seminal albums from ITTCT, Caspian, and Giants to... well, whatever is going on now. In other news, the new threestepstotheocean album is out and it's real good. Reminds me a lot of Damascus and Grails.
  5. Got mine in today! The 2nd press splatter is gorgeous.
  6. Haven't liked most of their recent stuff, but the first track from the new Coastlands album is actually really solid: https://coastlands.bandcamp.com/album/death
  7. Found some good, groovy post-metal. Doesn't hit you over the head with riffs, but it was interesting enough to keep me listening. Like a heavier L'Effondras. https://tesa.bandcamp.com/album/c-o-n-t-r-o-l
  8. No Clearance >>> Life in Cycles. Admittedly I haven't listened to the new one yet, though. The pacing is all over the place. I think that's why I can't get into it. Wildwood and Collapser are awesome, even the two tracks with vocals are fine, but everything else is really underdeveloped. Almost seems to me like they just threw a bunch of leftover riffs and ideas together and called it a day.
  9. Gotta admit, I thought you'd be all over it. Have to agree that Whale Fall was a nice surprise, though - I thought their last two releases were very average but the new one is huge. Caspian has had no staying power for me, sadly.
  10. New Barrens album is phenomenal. First great post-rock release of the year. If you haven't heard it yet, fix that.
  11. Literally just bought that Old Solar album last week, what are the odds haha
  12. Black Clouds was so freaking good. Just listened to both of their albums back-to-back and I'm left wondering why it's so hard for bands these days to pick up the slack. (With all due respect to the good post-rock bands still out there -- there are plenty.)
  13. Hi guys, just cleared some junk out of my messages so you should be able to pm me now! I still have all of these. Counterparts variant is black, see details in OP.
  14. I have been pretty bad at responding to messages over the past few months, but I'm home now (like everyone else), so if you see something you want shoot me a note. Corona bump.
  15. New Wake album, "Devouring Ruin" out today. Just finished my first run-through and it's pretty incredible. Think Abigail Williams meets Converge.
  16. Matching each variant with a different artwork is so cool. Grabbed the cc exclusive last night but kinda wish I'd gotten the good fight monochrome -- that's gonna look awesome.
  17. Didn't Arctic Drones close up shop last summer? Might have even been before that. It was definitely the best post-rock/instrumental blog out there. No idea what happened but they just stopped posting and it looks like the website is public domain now. I mostly just browse the relevant tags on Bandcamp and the wherepostrockdwells YouTube for new stuff. Heavy Blog is Heavy is probably my favorite online music review/blog site. @dawhizz
  18. Finished making my AOTY list yesterday. Here's my top 15: 1. Abigail Williams - Walk Beyond the Dark 2. Thornhill - The Dark Pool 3. Old Solar - See 4. Olam - I Will Guide Thy Hand 5. Elle - (Ellipsis) 6. Labirinto - Divino Afflante Spiritu 7. Mireplaner - A Mountain of Saola Hooves 8. Seeyouspacecowboy - The Correlation Between... 9. Void of Vision - Hyperdaze 10. Hundreds of AU - Mission Priorities on Launch 11. Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear 12. The Drowned God - I'll Always Be the Same 13. White Ward - Love Exchange Failure 14. Varials - In Darkness 15. Cranial - Alternate Endings
  19. Received mine on Saturday. Yeah this was expensive but that triple gatefold is so clean, it was worth it. Looking forward to cranking this one loud later today. Thanks again, Derek. You've got some positive feedback coming your way.
  20. Pretty sure Don mentioned this one to me a loooong time ago. I could have him mistaken for someone else, but this cover art looks very familiar. Both the new Pray for Sound and Kokomo albums are first-class. I love the energy in Waves, especially the last two songs.
  21. Nowhere else to post this, but I had one of the best music listening days of my life today. I have two big papers to crank out this week so I put on the following, in order, over a ten-hour period: La Dispute - Rooms of the House Touche Amore - PTSBBAM My Epic - Behold My Epic - Yet Hrvrd - From the Bird's Cage Copeland - Ixora Lydia - Paint it Golden Foxing - the Albatross mewithoutYou - Catch for Us the Foxes mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep Can I get some recs? Looking for more stuff in the vein of Lydia, Hrvrd, and My Epic. Honestly my goal was/is to check off a bunch of the indie rock classics so I'll take anything in that vein. Haven't listened to Science Fiction yet so I've got that, TREOS, and Manchester Orchestra queued up for tomorrow.
