  1. FWIW I would highly recommend One Step More and You Die.
  2. That was me! (Technically in the old thread, though.) Still so good, I’m glad you agree.
  3. Hey Ian, I've been using an AT-LP60 as my main for the better part of six years. Someday I'll upgrade, but I'm not in a hurry - this thing does pretty much everything I need it to. I personally have a pretty nice equalizer that I hooked up, and that improves the sound immensely. The sound on it's own is decent - I've never done a direct, side-by-side comparison, but I have a friend with a Pro-Ject and I remember the sound being a bit fuller on the latter, but that's to be expected. If your question is whether or not it's worth having as a backup, I would say absolutely. Would be happy to answer any other questions you have.
  4. Also had the chance to listen to TEOTO this morning. First impressions give it a 6-7/10 for me. For whatever reason, I want to compare it to If These Trees Could Talk's latest, because it checks all the boxes, musically, but there's not enough there to get me excited. One of those releases that I'll put on my Discogs wantlist and snag if a cheap copy rolls around, but won't be itching to buy otherwise. I agree that "Forsaken" is a jam; everything else just kind of ebbs and flows without delivering any standout moments. I'll return to this, though.
  5. I am much more out of the loop going into 2019 than in years past re: upcoming music, so I will be keeping a close eye on Bandcamp and this thread for new post-rock. Definitely looking forward to the new TEOTO album coming up - I haven't listened to any of the singles in anticipation of hearing it as a whole. Glacier posted on FB that we'll see a new album this year, so that's on the radar as well. Also, unrelated to the discussion: I FINALLY got a copy of Black Clouds' first album. It's been on my want list for practically three years. There's no reason why I haven't picked it up sooner but I finally caved a few weeks ago and just had to pull the trigger. Such a solid band and a great, no-BS post-rock album.
  6. This album is GREAT. Holy crap. Never thought I'd be stoked on a Mono album in 2019 but here we are. Went into this with subzero expectations -- Requiem had no staying power for me and when I heard that they added "electronics" for this new album I thought we'd be seeing a change from bad to worse. Glad I was wrong. This thing blows everything since Hymn out of the water. Huge Pipal Tree vibes on the title track. "Meet Us Where the Night Ends" and "Sorrow" are colossal, like the mashup between Hymn and One Step we didn't know we needed. I'm still not sold on "Breathe" - the vocals work but the backing instrumentation needed something more. "Parting" is the generic filler we've been worried about, but since it's sandwiched between two of the album's best tracks I'm not too concerned. The orchestral swells that saturated Requiem appear here, but they're only used sporadically, and never as a crutch. The much-lauded "electronics" are barely there, and for me that's a good thing. I feel like I'm finally hearing Mono again, and not the reverb-soaked mess that permeates their last few offerings. Is it the most groundbreaking album in the world? Probably not. But it's a hell of a lot more than what we've been getting for the past decade, and I think that deserves some praise.
  7. I'll add my list to the mix... 1. Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It 2. Spurv - Myra 3. Elle - She 4. Tangled Thoughts of Leaving - No Tether 5. Trna - Earthcult 6. Bearings - Blue in the Dark 7. Joy - No Light Below 8. A Film in Color - They March in Endless Circles 9. Autumn Creatures - Funeral Garden 10. Cassus - Separation Anxiety 11. State Champs - Living Proof 12. Aesthesys - Achromata 13. Holy Fawn - Death Spells 14. Locomotora - Vuodet, Vuoret 15. Red Apollo - The Laurels of Serenity
  8. Can anyone confirm that this pressing is equally as noisy/bad as the first? I'd happily suffer aftermarket prices if it was a good pressing, but it seems like that likelihood is slim...
  9. pg.lost "Key" for $15, if anyone needs it: https://www.indiemerchstore.com/item/45878
  10. As someone who has ordered from Madovia on a couple of occasions, I'm really happy to see I don't have to alter my positive opinion of them. Always nice to see small shops put customers over profit.
  11. Also grabbed Birth.eater. If I'm honest I could see myself getting The Color Morale and In Fear and Faith if they stick around - I used to love both of those albums. Hoping for Of Machines and/or MSWHITE next...
  12. I bought it through Deathwish with the black friday discount and got it in last week. I've only listened to the whole thing through maybe three or four times, but my general take is that it's solid, if a little underwhelming. Definitely worth owning, and I think the first three songs are killer, but there's not a whole lot about the back half that's stuck out to me thus far. L'Effondras did the whole sprawling, no-build thing the best on their last album, and this doesn't quite live up to that. What do you think?
  13. Looks like there are some extras back up in the Equal Vision store, if anyone missed it the first time around.
