The password access was intended for those who ordered during the accidental launch the other day and got their orders canceled. But I haven't seen anything about pressing numbers, so I guess maybe they're going to just press whatever they sell and this isn't going to sell out.

It should be semi-transparent judging from the description.

The description literally says “original recordings pressed on 180 gram vinyl” I dunno how much clearer it has to be

Yep, "07.07.20 1200 Hours EST" per the email from the webstore.

Nope, too late, you showed your true colors, you're not a genuine fan, no box set for you.

This has honestly been such a wild, fun night. So curious to see how this turns out.

I don't think they could've done an about-face from new live pressings to studio represses as a reactionary move with the kind of horrific red tape Capitol CMG is known for, though.

Also: their Facebook is back up, but no shop tab and the links are still dead.

So it's Underoath's manager. He reached out to ask a few questions and said they will have more info tomorrow morning about what happened. He also told me to let the internet know that this is NOT live recordings.

Edit #4: Confirmed on sale 7/7 at noon eastern via https://underoathobservatory.com.

Edit #3: Answers allegedly forthcoming the morning of 7/3. However, we at least have confirmation that these are NOT live recordings.

Edit #2: Thanks for tuning in to today's episode of bizarre vinyl adventures! All links are currently down and we have genuinely no clue what we're getting if we're getting anything! Hooray! Will we get some answers in the near future? In the immortal words of Mark Wahlberg in The Departed, "Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself."

Weirdly sneaky, vague represses up on Facebook of all places. Looks like they're calling them "Observatory" represses, I guess going along with their recent series of reminiscent Twitch broadcasts? All I know is, get 'em while they're hot. All on "180g translucent black vinyl" with the original standard CD artwork plus a pressing-exclusive slip band.

    Box Set
    They're Only Chasing Safety
    Define the Great Line
Lost in the Sound of Separation
    Plus a Slipmat

No word on ship date. It appears the box set has free standard shipping, but the solo releases do not.

Edit: Okay so apparently the tiny text on the slip band says "Exclusive series of 3 full albums performed in their entirety via livestream." Take that as you will.

Larger labels are always trying to protect their investments. Licenses always expire at some point. Not only is it easier to license out a finite amount, when the label decides on a number (in this case, 1000) they probably want to gauge interest while limiting their risk. Now that they saw how fast it sold  and what people are willing to pay, they now know they can license it out for higher fees or press it themselves.

For instance, I licensed out a particular record several years ago and the label allowed me to press 500 copies. They sold out in a matter of days. When we asked to do a repress or talk about pressing other records by this particular band, we were told something to the effect of ‘we saw how successful the presale went. We’re going to handle future vinyl releases for this band.’

sometimes there’s a bigger picture that may or may not consider the best interests of the artist, the fans, or the label. But you know, capitalism.

I still can’t wrap my head around this logic. Unless you’re a fairweather collector, $40 PPD for a double LP is at the high end, but still, in the “normal” range.

Especially for a band putting it out themselves, in a day in age where “let’s support bands” is very much needed. Norma Jean weren’t packing out 1000 cap rooms before any of this started...

All three albums available for the first time tomorrow at 10am PST per Solid State.

When I Am God — Half Blue / Half Clear Vinyl — 554 copies
Son of the Morning — Half Black / Half White — 586 copies
Children of Fire — Half Clear Orange / Half Opaque Orange — 556 copies

Each was "remastered for vinyl," includes a new liner note essay about the album, and was produced by Unoriginal Vinyl with the utmost attention to blah blah you know the drill.

I don't HATE Fever, but there definitely was a very brief period of time that there was hope for something that might be in the same realm of The Chariot.

It's not, and that's fine, I wish them well and dig some of the songs, but it's largely not for me.

I can't comment directly on the sound of this particular release, but I do have a bit of info going forward.
Tooth and Nail (Solid State)  has begun to turn their vinyl production over to a new individual. There are a few things that were already mostly done before the switch (this, the first Chariot, SF59 Gold) so I would expect them to be mostly like what they have been putting out.

BUT, by the end of the year there will be a number of reissues that will be done via the new process. There is  some stuff that people have been asking for for a while, as well as a couple titles I personally never thought would happen, being pressed for the first time. What does that mean?

    - Expect MUCH improved vinyl mastering. ( I have heard the test pressing for one of these releases and it was stunningly clear)
-Less bare bones packaging, reimagined art, more unique detail on any particular release
-Less plain solid colors, more inventiveness in the vinyl colorways
-I would also expect a little better marketing. Most of their stuff has just been dropped haphazardly when it comes in. I think they will hype a few things a bit more.
-A lot more involvement from the bands; Forewards, special input on artwork etc.
-Pricing may vary more on the new stuff a little more than it has. T&N is NOT making much on vinyl as they have to license virtually every catalog title. When they sell stuff @$10 I would bet that is breaking even or maybe even below cost.  Depending on the inventiveness of the packaging, I would expect a few titles to cost more than $20. The only difference this time is the price should be worth it.

This is the first SS/T&N release to utilize the new vinyl guy. Going forward this will become the standard. I made a longer post about it in the Beloved Failure On thread, but the short of it is the poor mastering and general cheapness T&N has come to be know for should be getting phased out.

If I had money to throw at this, I would probably pick it up for the old school feels, but realistically I haven't listened to this album in its entirety in years. It's still a good time, but I don't think I'd get my money's worth. Now, if they were to press Attack of the Wolf King...
