  1. Yeah, so.... Anyone got a shipping notification lately, or anyone still not received their shipping notification yet?
  2. Just wanted to say I had a good experience selling to this guy. I offloaded some of my more rare albums, and he paid a pretty fair price for everything. If you have a bunch of stuff you want to offload, I highly recommend reaching out.
  3. I've owned a few sets of speakers, I started with used vintage on the cheap, and sort of upgraded as my budget allowed. I feel like one of my biggest mistakes was buying new in the couple hundred dollar range. As far as bang for your buck, buying new and buying cheap is not a great decision in my opinion. If you're on a budget, your best will be to buy used, wether that be vintage or modern. Vintage speakers are a gamble, especially if you aren't good with your hands. Buying modern used equipment from somewhere that will allow returns is a good option though. There are plenty of good bookshelf speakers you can find used for a couple hundred bucks, so your best bet is to just research best under $500 and wait for a good deal. Your other option is to decide on a nicer speaker and save, waiting for a good deal. If I could have went back to the point where I had a used cheap system that I pieced together I would have decided on my dream deck, Dream amp, and dream speakers and saved and watched for deals. I would have spent a lot less money in the long term. You can also watch for floor model sales on equipment as well. I have fairly expensive gear by my standards, but didn't pay full price for any of it. On to speaker placement. There's tons of info on the web. At its most basic: Ideally you would listen to music in the same location every time. A triangle is formed of equal lengths between you, and the speakers. If you are 5 feet from each of the speakers, the speakers will be 5 feet from each other. The speakers ideally will not be on any sort of mdf or chipboard shelves. They will be isolated from vibration by use of stands. I personally like floor standing speakers, but if your room is small, they might not be needed. As far as a sub, audiophiles generally recommend against it as far as I can tell, especially when using decent full range speakers. I have a fairly nice subwoofer, but I turn it off when I'm listen to music and on when I'm using my system for home theatre.
  4. The best advice is to read the beginners thread that you're supposed to read before you post. What you buy will be dependent on how much money you're willing to spend. An AT-LP-60 will work, but is not considered a good turntable by any measure and prolonged use will damage your records.
  5. Ordered with the shirt, and I have not received shipping notification. I ordered first day within minutes of it going live for reference.
  6. The Sony and your speakers are your problem.... You are using a mini all in one type system, which are known to be poor sounding. Your cart and table are leaps and bounds above your amplifier and speakers. Using the Logitech speakers will likely not help either. Technically what you are doing works, but you will not achieve anything resembling decent playback with that mini system.
  7. I couldn't tell anything from your video due to you moving the camera around so much... If your plinth is level, but your platter is not, then to the best of my knowledge you have one of two problems: platter is warped, or your spindle is bent. To determine which it is, place our platter upside down on a known flat surface. look all the way around the where the platter meets the surface. Is there any gaps? If no, place it back on spindle and hold a ruler next to platter. Watch the platter as it spins around. Do you see the platter raising and lowering in height by more than a mm or so? If so, this is likely a bent spindle. Please someone correct me if I am wrong. I have a Yamaha YP-D71 that had a bent spindle and this is how i determined that, and then was able to tap the spindle back into alignment.
  8. It seems like you're getting extremely hung up on the leveling bit. I won't say its not important, but with your system, its not that important, and likely will not fix your issue. You haven't exactly said what your amp and speakers are, but you did say "to an old Sony hi-fi audio" and you mentioned a more neutral sounding pair of Logitech speakers, and this all leads me to believe that you could have your TT as level as all get out, but your system will still sound like garbage. Check the beginners thread for some recommendations for speakers and an amp.
  9. Seeing them on Sunday night. Beyond stoked for the show. I haven't listened to the album yet, but it seems like bands always get just a little more, I don't know, accessible?, when they go to Triple Crown, so I'm slightly nervous about that. But I'm looking forward to it regardless.
  10. http://popwig.limitedrun.com/products/593063-trapped-under-ice-cherry-shirt New shirt is pretty cool also. Was able to score all three variants, shirt and hat this morning.
  11. I heard that and I think I heard a little Turnstile as well... I can dig it.
  12. I would imagine it will be a tour exclusive, Just a guess though.
  13. I think its a completely appropriate response, and although I wish they would have said this all sooner, I understand the need to digest it and get their proverbial ducks in a row. It's still all he said-she said right now, and if it comes out that the allegations were false, then it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened. I think because of the community's rush to judgement, there probably wont be any coming back from this whether it happened or didn't.
  14. If it actually is in good condition other than needing a stylus, that's a pretty good deal. I cant give you an exact number because I haven't seen it, but Thorens TD 150 tables needing restoration have sold on eBay within the last month for $220 - $265.
  15. I've seen several different albums pressed in "grimace purple." Have you not?
  16. This last sold on eBay last month unplayed for $33 with free shipping. I'll give you $25 ppd.
  17. Fuck. DNA is a banger. This whole album is awesome but that one track stands out to me for some reason. This is nothing like I expected, but I love it already and I generally set my expectations too high for new releases and am disappointed.
  18. So you've been told to buy a new cart, a new pre amp, and a new amp... There is a sort of philosophical argument going on here as to which is going to give you the biggest upgrade in sound for your money and I really don't think anyone is wrong. I have never heard an on board phono pre that sounds good. Im going to attempt to give you an honest unbiased opinion from someone who has gone from worse than what you have to something much better than what you have. That amp you're looking at looks good, and probably is, but without a decent preamp or decent cart is going to be wasted money. You're preamp is the weakest link. I don't know that the lounge is the best option. Some like it. I've heard it and thought it sounded flat and was easily beat by tube preamps in the price range. The Little Bear T10 comes to mind for $100 cheaper. The Grado Black isn't a great cart. Please remember this is the beginning of the chain. Crap in = crap out. Your cart converts mechanical to electrical. It's up for debate, but I believe it's the most important link in the chain. You already have great speakers, get yourself a good cart. You have what? $1200-1500 speakers and a $75 cart? Admittedly you have a $0 pre, but.. You will always be able to upgrade every part of your system. In my experience I have found the money to positive effect hierarchy to be the actual record quality > cart> pre >table > tone arm > amp > isolation >rca cables > power supply. Take it for what it's worth. And sorry for the wall of text. I have a few tube pre amps and carts if you're interested and am willing to chat privately on building a preamp if that interests you. Good luck.
  19. Sure, it will sound different. And it'll probably be at least noticeable, but with that setup I doubt it'll be better, just a bit different. Glad you enjoy the preamp, but what works for one system doesn't work for others. Just my opinion, and I'm not telling the person not to buy it, but I think the money would be better placed elsewhere. And for recommendations for $300 cart, I like the Ortofon 2M blue and bronze for that price area. I think they are great for the price, especially when paired with a tube preamp. I eventually moved from one to a Dynavector 20X2.
  20. I agree with the above poster. Give yourself some time with the new deck and get a feel for the sound. It is my opinion, though, that you won’t get much out of a better pre-amp right away. Everyone has their own opinions, but I think the cartridge is one of the most important links in the chain. Your new one will most certainly be a huge upgrade from whatever was on your old TT, but it’s still no gem, and certainly not even close to being on par with your speakers. It'll sound slightly different, maybe, but it won’t allow you to hear detail that your stylus is not picking up, if that makes sense. By all means get one because it will be useful to have in the future as you upgrade your cart, but probably isn’t necessary right away.
  21. I can wait another week, but I don't want to have to.
  22. Ahhh. I'll give that a shot real fast. Yeah... Not available in the US store. Bummer.
