Kurt Vile - B'lieve I'm Going (Deep) Down
Blaine replied to timsimmons's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
That's tempting, but I'll try and wait until I receive the album. Anyone that does listen to it, first impressions? -
Awesome news on the new double album. As for 1989, I like it. It's exactly what I expected it to be. Ryan Adams arrangements, production, and voice elevate the songs to an enjoyable listen for me. There are still some very empty lyrics, but I didn't expect that to change, and I'm okay with that. Ryan Adams is an artist I can listen to as background music, and appreciate his vocal delivery as another instrument, negating the lyrical affect to a certain degree. I enjoy his songwriting, but being a covers album I'm not analyzing the lyrics like I would one of his own projects. I'll be picking up the record in November.

The White Reaper tapes are awesome. I picked up the two Wampire releases, and lucked out with the White Reaper single, too. It's the only reason I looked at the sale.

I like The Offspring tapes.

Even cooler!

Very cool!

I'll buy this, but I'm not downloading from iTunes and then buying it on vinyl later. I'm sure it will be available to stream on Spotify upon digital release, and that will suffice until the record drops.

Sorry about jumping the gun on that. I hope you didn't miss out too much. I'll be happy to send another $5 your way.

I like the instrumentation, especially the piano lead and Cure-like guitar tones. The chorus is still a bit grating. I think a singer like Adams can elevate a song, which he does, but I also feel his more naturally-genuine delivery brings at the lyrical inadequacies. I haven't listened to 1989, and the few songs I'm familiar with are the bits and pieces I've heard in public. I don't enjoy Swift's music, nor do I feel her lyrics are aimed at my demographic, but I do feel Adams will elevate these songs do an enjoyable listen. Thanks for the link to the stream.

Ryan just posted on his Twitter that digital pre-order begins tonight at 9 PM PDT. CD and vinyl coming soon, too.

Hopefully you're not experience male pattern baldness like myself. All I can do is save up for a hi-fi system, but the ponytail, a dream left unfulfilled. -
My test press arrived in the mail on Tuesday. I haven't had a chance to spin it, hopefully some time this weekend.

Haha, agree with the sentiment. Good music is good music, and if it's mastered properly that's a huge bonus. I'm certainly not walking into a record shop and asking for the best audiophile releases, regardless of artist. Genres like punk, lo-fi, etc. don't need hi-fidelity masterings. They are DIY genres that gain a lot of their charm from the fact they don't sound perfect. I understand the desire for hi-fi in regards to jazz and classical, but these are also the same collectors that go ga-ga over bootleg-demos from The Beatles just because it's the Fab 4. -

I'm on that forum, too, and there are far too many posters who focus solely on the audiophile aspect of record collecting and not enough on the actual music. I'm a Music Matters subscriber, and I've yet to have any problems with their releases. -

First time hearing this band, but I like the sound. I'll have to give their first record a listen to get a better feel for their music. -

I read about him and Uncle Acid the same day, and I've been enjoying both artists a lot this week. -
