  1. HELLA YEAH! Been waiting for this for so long. Splatter looks great, very excited to get a copy!
  2. Finally managed to pick this up locally (black) and they had a few in stock, so it must be slowly trickling into stores.
  3. Hell yes! One of my favourite bands from that era. I was so sad the Early Music LP was initially announced as an exclusive "Tour only" thing. Super happy to get my hands on these!
  4. $40 for delivery from Rough Trade US 😑 Anyone know of a Canadian retailer with open pre-orders for these? I'd like to avoid Amazon.
  5. heck yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares if they're standard reissues?! Gimme gimme gimme!
  6. Late to the party but this fucking slaps. Fantastic record!
  7. Gotta agree, it's not great. There are a few fantastic tracks and then the rest feels like fuzzed out, 80s dad-rock with cringeworthy lyrics. So many people are praising Blue Spade and World Stops Turning, but those are some of my least favourite on the record. Also not a fan of the guitar solos. If they stuck with the same formula as they did with tracks like Familiar Drugs, Conditional Love, Survivor's Guilt, Committed to the Con, then it would feel like a natural progression for the band. But with the other tracks sprinkled in, it feels like all of the worst parts of their side projects rolled into one. Still, I'm glad they're back and it brings me great joy to see them enjoying themselves again.
  8. Tell your wife to use public transit, it's safe and goes anywhere she'll need to go. The metro is awesome, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Uber is expensive here! For stores: Aux 33 Tours for everything (one of the best record stores in the world), Cheap Thrills for the staircase and its proximity to downtown (and a good punk section), Soundcentral, Phonopolis for the eclectic stuff and the donuts nearby (Bernie's), Atom Heart for the stroll up Saint-Laurent or Parc Ave afterward, La Rama for the electronic stuff, Death of Vinyl for the digging, 180g for the hip-hop, and if you want more Francophone vibes check out Francophonies. There are a few more but those are the ones worth visiting IMO. Hope your wife enjoys her time here!
  9. Long shot but if anyone has an extra ticket to the Mogwai show in Montreal on April 9, please let me know! Willing to pay a bit more than face value, but absolutely not the $88 + fees that some wacko wants on the Ticketmaster resale platform.
  10. I ended up emailing them, they never responded. But then I reached out via Twitter and they told me the original package was 'lost', so they were nice enough to re-send another. I just received the package today with some cool socks thrown in and a note apologizing for the delay. Pretty cool - and the record sounds great!
  11. Well...I'm certainly glad I didn't pre-order this now. This is a huge step down from the lead single.
  12. I missed out on the pre-order for this thinking it wouldn't sell out (oops!) but luckily found a copy at a local store last week. I gotta say: it sounds fucking fantastic! The three set LP is a bit annoying IMO (because of all the flipping) but I like that they kept all the artwork for each separate EP. Some of these tracks are Mogwai's best, it's so nice to finally have them in my collection. The magical chaos of Christmas Steps playing during the first big snowfall is what it's all about.
  13. 2023??? I know, I know...but it's still crazy to see. I bought one of the last 5 purple copies from their Bandcamp a year or two ago, and I'm so glad I did! It's one of my favourites. I wonder how different the remaster sounds?
  14. Just saw the news and heard the lead single, it's surprisingly not bad! From their webstore: "Alpha Games was conceived on the road, playing in front of amazing crowds on our last tour and then brought to life with the fire and the frustrations of 2020,” says Kele Okereke on Bloc Party’s first new album in seven years. The first Bloc Party album written and recorded as this four piece; adding the musicality of Justin Harris (bass) and the unbridled energy and power of Louise Bartle on the drums to capture the spark of their live shows and to deliver the most exciting Bloc Party album yet." Official Bloc Party store pre-orders: https://blocparty.shop.musictoday.com/ Standard black and a black/red split exclusive. https://pitchfork.com/news/bloc-party-announce-new-album-alpha-games-share-new-song-listen/ "Traps" video here:
