  1. hahaha aint that the truth. Its amazing how something as simple as black wax with musical grooves commands so much of our wallet
  2. i was at the Austin Record convention today and snagged a mint copy of the Vanilla Sky Soundtrack on LP!! It still included the film strip as well!!
  3. "In the meantime, next up for us is a completely unreleased Red House Painters record from 1994 — pressed on goat oil vinyl (it’s all the rage), limited to six copies worldwide. Sold only at post offices…" HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
  4. it is disappointing to see SSD flip the records but like someone else pointed out above, these store's don't exactly make a ton of money. Truthfully, had i not been able to get a copy at my local store i would have paid the $150. Its high, but not insane. I was expecting flippers to be asking closer to $500 honestly. I mean look at the Cat Stevens release from vinyl films, you'll pay $300 minimum and thats just ONE record! The record industry is rising but its still a niche market. Lets not be so quick to throw out judgement on one small mistake.
  5. I bought a copy on eBay for $100 when it came out. But now I have the box set. If you want to pay me $100 so I break even I'll sell it.
  6. hilarious! the same thing happened to me. I called amazon a little more than ticked. lol But i was nice to the lady and she said she'd refund me... i told her "well that doesn't help me since its sold out and only being sold from 3rd part sellers at $22" She said "buy the item and we'll refund you $22. So i did and just got my vinyl in the mail today! amazon's customer service is pretty awesome. They've done stuff like this for me before.
  7. lol man, same here... i've called them like 4 times over the last few months before they finally acknowledged that it was a real product they could order
  8. i ordered it waterloo in ATX but they said they cant promise they'll hold it for me (?). They've pre-ordered many things for me, not sure why this is different. If you get an extra copy please let me know, i can meet you somewhere in town and pay you a little extra for gas or whatever.
  9. Of all the friends i have, no one seems to be a vinyl enthusiast like we are on this forum. I've often wondered if there are vinyl clubs in Austin where people take turns hosting at different places and get together just to listen to some albums on vinyl. Does something like this exist?
  10. I've been biting my nails for months. Its amazing how much stress and cash we throw around over plastic grooves that smooth our soul.... But I regret nothing
  11. Man. I'm shocked at the amount of negativity on this forum. I understand if it's not your cup of tea but everyone's so fast to label it a cash crab. I for one am happy to pay $20 a month for the difference in sound I can hear when doing tests between this and spotify on my Martin Logan speakers or oppo headphones. It's a really good value when I consider I spend much more than $20 a month on CDs only to obtain a lossless copy ripped to my computer. By getting this service I won't need to continue to purchase so many CDs. Now It'll just be vinyl and streaming lossless for me
  12. Check out some excerpts from Jay's #NewRules below. On restoring "fair trade" in music: Definitely. For someone like me, I can go on tour. But what about the people working on the record, the content creators and not just the artists? If they’re not being compensated properly, then I think we’ll lose some writers and producers and people like that who depend on fair trade. Some would probably have to take another job, and I think we’ll lose some great writers in the process. Is it fair? No. If you put in work, everyone else, you go to work you get paid. That’s fair trade. It’s what our country is built on. On what he wants out of TIDAL: Artists come here and start making songs 18 minutes long, or whatever. I know this is going to sound crazy, but maybe they start attempting to make a “Like a Rolling Stone,” you know, a song that doesn't have a recognizable hook, but is still considered one of the greatest songs of all time, the freedom that this platform will allow art to flourish here. And we’re encouraging people to put it in any format they like. It doesn't have to be three minutes and 30 seconds. What if it’s a minute and 17, what if it’s 11; you know, just break format. What if it’s just four minutes of just music and then you start rapping? On whether it will offer exclusives from artists: Well, it’s up to the artist. You know, there’s a thing now, it’s called the album cycle. You put your single out, promote it, then another single -- I think that now for an artist an album cycle doesn’t have to end. They’re on Instagram and Twitter and all these things, so we’re just talking about ways of extending that album cycle, and it could be anything. What if it’s a video offering tickets to the next concert, or what if it’s audio or video of the recording process? It could be anything. It could be them at home listening to songs that inspire them. Anything they want to offer, you know; just be as creative as possible, that’s the only charge, really. Make it look really good and make everyone that consumes it think, “Man, I got something really great.” Treat the people with respect; make it memorable. http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/jay-z-w...d-restore-fair-trade-in-music-news.14621.html
  13. Just heard about this today and signed up immediately. I have been waiting for a HIFI streaming service to replace my compressed spotify streaming service. Ive been using it all afternoon and the sound quality is extremely impressive!! Looks like i'll be canceling my spotify service in replacement of this. http://exclaim.ca/Music/article/jay_z_launches_his_tidal_streaming_service The company's blurb as as follows: "Introducing the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial." Tidal's Premium service costs $9.99 a month, while the loss HiFi service costs $19.99. They're available to test as a free 30 day trial. Unlike Spotify, it doesn't offer a free tier. Go to Tidal.com to learn more.
  14. sitting here listening to the unreleased RA iconic 'Suicide Handbook'. son of a bitch, someone print this on vinyl. I don't care if its a bootleg, i'll buy it.
  15. Thanks! it took me a while to save up for them but it was well worth the purchase, they're really great. ah yeah man, for the money i haven't come across anything better. I'm generally a skeptic when it comes to "value products" but in this case, they're superb and i have no complaints.
  16. if you are among the many who have a hard time finding respectable new rock bands check out the local Austin band, Bright Light Social Hour. They just released their second album entitled Space Is Still the Place and its fantastic. Here are two songs, one great song from each album. PS - the new LP was an amazing bargain. $17 at my local record store, clear vinyl with five 12" inserts with photographs and lyrics. The sound quality was amazing as well!
  17. For me it depends on my mood but i suppose if i had to pick ONE album it would be Easy Tiger by Ryan Adams. When my wife falls asleep early i tend to pour a glass of gentleman's jack and pull out the harmonica and sing/play along to my fav artist and one of his better albums, Easy Tiger. Whats yours?
  18. ordered this morning! bummed i missed the autograph but thats alright, just glad to have this gem on LP.
  19. lol theres a petition to get this album re-released on vinyl http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/astorminheaven
  20. i had a dream that i waited in line at RSD for hours the other night. First in the door. Then the store didnt have the box set. I felt so dismayed. ....true story.
  21. lets not get personal. If you disagree with someone's viewpoint be professional about it. This should not be a place with negative vibes
