  1. Ohhhh yeah. That album is fastly rising to be one of my favorites of theirs. Fucking "Ghost Trail" man....
  2. Gifts For The Earth is taking me a while to get into. Not sure why. Rest of the album is legit though. A lot of it feels like they've hit into the "modern black metal" thing with polished groups like Dimmu Borgir and Enthroned and stuff like that, from Europe, but then they go into their clean grooves and everything is perfect. This album is way too short, though. It's over far too fast. They're just making me want more now. Grrrr!
  3. Oh come on, it's not that hard to grasp! Yeah, maybe dulled wasn't the right word... but you get what I mean. When everything you do is fucking awesome, that becomes the routine thing, and sometimes it's hard to get excited and thrilled about routine. "Oh, another great Caspian record. Okay, what else is new... this is what we expected." Haha I love the post-post-rock tag, though. I think it's totally perfect. Caspian, and even bands like ITTCT and Sleepmakeswaves take the post-rock attributes and repackage it into this wildly energetic new thing. Whereas a group like This Will Destroy You or Mono or Joy Wants Eternity is kind of "standard" post-rock to me. But a lot of the best bands make a more creative take on the post-rock style and add some new stuff to it, like with Gates and how they mix it with post-hardcore/screamo styled rock, or Maybeshewill and having a heavy piano presence, or Jakob and their thunderingly heavy wall-of-sound thing. For those that caught Caspian already, how has Loft sounded in concert? That's a dream of mine, I can't wait for Boston.
  4. Listening to Vertikal now, and this has some great songs. Very good album, very good. But I still think Salvation still has that x-factor over this. The music is very different; they kind of streamlined themselves into more simple, straightforward and crushing groove writing. Salvation is a little more sprawling and psychedelic.
  5. Just started the album stream. For some reason, I'm finally really liking Brought To The Water. I think it just takes a few listens to finally "get" what the band is aiming for with certain passages and energy spectra. This is a great fucking song. I get it now, I even like some of the solo. I hated the solo before. Weird. Can't wait to get to the rest of the album. Edit: oh man, I was fully expecting to hate this album, but holy shit... this is fucking tremendous shit. Baby Blue, FTW. Good lord, what a track. Luna, too. Baby Blue's first like 4-5 minutes are fucking legit, before they get to that chugging thrash groove. Not a big fan of this section, honestly, but whatever. I guess it'll be their "mosh groove".
  6. Shit, that's a fucking steal. That EP is brilliant stuff. Somewhere Along The Highway is up there too, and it has my 2nd favorite track by them (Finland) and Eternal Kingdom has also risen fast to the top of the list (that album is next on my to-buy list). Vertikal still hasn't snagged me, maybe I'll spin that later tonight when I go to bed. I'm just pissed they cut out the intro to "Echoes" when they play it live. What weaksauce that is. Fucking RIGHT?!?!?! At first, my favorite track was Untitled V (the one with the "made out of nothing..." chorus) but this track... man, "Untitled III" is just the fucking peak. Unreal songwriting.
  7. I think this is a standard-great Caspian record: A couple MAMMOTH standout tracks, and everything else is par for the course, which is fucking awesome. I mean, when everything you do is fucking awesome, fucking awesome becomes pretty mundane. Which is a weird thing... when spectacular becomes dulled by experience. Post-rock problems....
  8. They are playing a new song.... its the one that starts with some heavy, beautiful bass chords, and in the middle, it gets to this fast double time almost dancey hi-hat part, with some untz-ing kick drums. So sick.
  9. Sweet, excellent. Would you want to trade maybe for a tour copy of the new Caspian album? I'm pretty sure that the ITTCT was $27 new (that's the price that's coming to my mind, I'm not 100% though) so the prices would even out, as the Caspian record is $25. Also, can anybody comment on the quality of Pg.Lost's vinyl version of "It's Not Me, It's You!"? I'm about to snag that for a stupid, stupid price, but.... I need this album. I just don't want to regret it after dropping a shitload of cash. Same with Key... I just picked up a Self-titled 2nd-press orange from our good friend here, Sasan! I cannot fucking wait to play this.
  10. That is the correct answer. Don't sleep on that Cult of Luna record, dude. I promise you. And the Callisto bit is brilliant, too.
  11. I think I'm going to take you up on this man, I'll PM you for your details, shipping costs, etc.
  12. Right on man, yeah it's great fucking music. You're already intimately familiar with Isis and their work, correct?
  13. Right? Haha, yeah man.... once you finally "get it", there is absolutely no going back with these guys. They're just so heavy and sublime. I'd recommend just going in order now, and check out Wake/Lift next. Its a much different animal than TGS, with much more developed songwriting and composition. Also, you should check out the album "Salvation" by Cult of Luna and "Noir" by Callisto if you like this stuff.
  14. I'm going to the Boston show, but that's the last show of the tour. No way there are any left after even the first week. Would anybody be kind enough to include me in a group buy? I know I provide lots of mockable posts here, but most of that is just me deliberately being outrageous, haha. Would be super thanful and tip well for the effort.
  15. Sick, thanks dude. That's exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to hear from someone. For the S/T album, I really love how the orange & black splatter looks, but the prices for that edition are absolutely crazy. By the way, if anybody would like a clear/black "Red Forest" I've got a couple I'd like to get rid of for cost+shipping (got hit with almost $400 in medical bills, blah).
  16. Haha.... yeahhhh. I got a little carried away with that first one, lol. My feelings are still the same though! I was just really surprised and kind of taken aback by how perfectly their sound is suited to that particular.... headspace. What a beautiful thing. Get any headway on any of the other albums yet man?
  17. Keeping things in is unhealthy!!! But dude, that live Godspeed sound... wowwww. It's quite unlike anything else I've ever experienced. It just completely engulfs you. It's like you're surrounded by beautiful sound pressure, just holding and cradling you and rocking you towards an ecstatic heavenly peak. Damn, that was easy. haha
  18. Really? See, I think its because of the maturity of the songwriting on this record that sets it apart so much; the progression and development and depth they've achieved. I love the old records too, but this is unquestionably their best-written work. It's their most mature and professional, in the sense of being good at a craft. Which is not to say that it's LIGHTYEARS beyond the other records, no. Rather, it's just enough of a step ahead to be noticeably better-written and creative and boundary-pushing than the others. That said, I think I'm going to spin Wake/Lift right now
  19. I love that I get excited like this about music. Life would be so boring otherwise. Freaking out is the greatest thing! How was Storm without the trumpets, though?
  20. I'll look into that but I got the CD/LP deal, so that's what my hangup is. Either way, if one of you guys can pic me up a tour copy, I'll Paypal whatever is needed to whomever. I don't think I've bought anything from anybody in this thread, but I've already logged a bunch of VC purchases from people so I can get references if needed.
  21. What's the issue with bumping cool shit? I don't get what the big deal is. Who gets angry about shit on a message board? But yeah I signed up for the newsletter. Best label ever. I just want to keep talking about this fantastic material. Ryan might be my favorite song, behind Blind Them With Science, Semaphore, and the lead track from Cale:Drew (name escapes me now)
  22. Very true... it really doesn't matter. They're all utterly wonderful. The Galilean Satellites is probably the most different/unique in their repertoire, in terms of the songwriting style. But really, depending on the day of the week and what I'm feeling, whatever album I'm listening to is my favorite. For what it's worth, The Anaesthete took me the longest to get into. A Determinism Of Morality was my early favorite, followed closely by Wake/Lift. Quintessential Ephemera is definitely their best, though. But they're all my favorites.
  23. You're busting on me for the Caspian thread aren't you, haha.
  24. THEY PLAYED STORM!??!! Fuuuuuck mannnnnn, that's my favorite thing of theirs. Grrrrrr!!!
