Not sure I want to spend that kind of money... my next move is probably a RP3. But I think for not much more money I might be able to get into a second hand Clear Audio, Sota, not sure about a VPI..? I am am sure the RP3 would be plenty of turntable for me. The others would probably end up being to revealing of my modest setup.

I have kind of a weird question. I feel like there are 3 classes of product brands in pretty much any category, entry, mid, high end... For example.. in the world of Turntables you have the stuff you would see at brick and mortar stores, Crosly, Sony, Denon(maybe), audio technica. Then there is mid level, Project, Rega, etc. Then higher end, Clear Audio, Origin, Sota, VPI. There are obviously some overlaps here and there... My question is, if you have say $1500 budget, would it be money better spent to get a entry level Sota, VPI, Clear Audio. Or a high model in the range of Pro-Ject, Rega etc? Does that make sense?

Replacement mat for Pro-Ject Debut Carbon

I use the acrylic platter without a mat. not sure if there is a deference, but it looks great. In all honesty I would save a few more pennies and get the Esprit model. It has speed control and the upgraded platter. -

Just picked up a Ikea picture ledge... -
Maybe it's a myth but a lot of people sware that only certain components sound good together; speakers, amp, turntable. Do you believe this? What's your current wish list or setup?

RP1, Debut Carbon, or Planar 2

Thanks guys. Sounds like I'll pass on the used Rega Planar unless he will come down to $350USD or something. -

Thank you for the reply. He has had the Rega for a long while, I was hopping he would except a lower off. I wanted to stay within a $400 budget. At his $500 asking it is getting close to a used RP3. Are the upgrades on the Planar 2 outstanding in anyway? Or would a RP1 with performance pack be just as good? -
RP1, Debut Carbon, or Planar 2
NewVinylGuy replied to NewVinylGuy's topic in Turntables & Other Audio Equipment
Life happened and my plans were put on the back burner... anyhow I am back in the market for the mentioned TTs and just so happens the used Rega Planar is still available... Ive also considered a upgraded Uturn Would it still be a good choice? Price wise it is about the same as a new ProJect Carbon DC or RP1 ($500 asking price) Ive tried googling around, but everything I read is from early 2000s. A lot has changed in the TT world since then... -
