NapalmBrain got a reaction from poweredbytrust in WHIRR - Sway LP (out on 9/23) and Pipe Dreams Redux
This is an interesting turn of events, is this the first time a band has been dropped over twitter comments? Their actions last night were very disappointing to me. I own almost 100% discography from this band, I once traveled over 3 hours round trip to see them perform.I've invested dozens maybe even hundreds of listening hours to their music and Nick's other side projects. But I would have a hard time supporting this band in the future without some kind of public apology, I seriously hope the dude gets a change of heart and learns something from this experience. He is a talented musician and it would be a shame to waste it on pride and a tough asshole internet persona. The internet really has changed the way we interact with the music scene and listen to music. Transparency has altered everything, last night was truly disgusting but there has been so many examples of poor behavior by musicians through the years, there just wasn't always the internet to generate a platform of discussion. I mean Eric Clapton publically declared that England should deport all the blacks on stage at a concert, 3 out of 4 Beatles (not Ringo) beat their wives, Miles Davis was another woman abuser and you never hear "I really love Kind Of Blue, but I just can't listen to it without seperating how he treated women". Some other food for thought, the lead singer of Nothing stabbed a guy to death and it's more concerning to some of you that the bassist made a transphobic tweet (both actions are gross, but im on the side of ending another human's life is worse than degrading another human). I'm not trying to support the actions of nick or this band, and as someone with several trans friends I am seriously bummed by their actions. I wouldn't condemn anyone for not wishing to continue supporting this band, but I really don't understand if you connected with their music why you couldn't separate artist from art at least eventually. I own music from all 3 examples of shitty humans who make good music, doesn't make me a womanizer or a racist just like listening to Whirr doesn't make me transphobic but I'm not rushing to line their pockets from this point forward.

off topic slightly but I have a friend who writes a comic about a transgender superhero named Trans Cat, she has been going through an exceptionally rough patch lately, and I think what she does is awesome, there isn't really too many in the comic world approaching this subject and I think it's beautiful that she puts something into this world that people who are otherwise marginalized by society can relate to. I thought some of you may be interested to at least glance, and if you really like it you can even order physical copies of all 5 issues.

I know this is pretty unrelated, but after such a negative event I thought I would try to add a positive and use this discussion as a launching point for support of someone in the transgender community

I get what you feel and yes I find it fascinating too!
To me it seems like that distancing from prejudice rather than violence stems from our laws. I feel that most of the time a country's laws reflects the values that particular societies hold because it basically says what's right and wrong. It's just that, all these movements for equality being so recent, laws haven't been put into place yet for them and so there is a lot of battling going on to stake what is right and wrong.

Of course murder is worse than transphobia. But the reason why the vocalist of Nothing's attempted murder/murder does not draw as much flak/attention is that murder is already deeply embedded in our consciousness as being bad. There's already a heavy legal penalty to pay for it.
Transphobia on the other hand, is one of those things such as racism or sexism that the public's views have radically altered in recent times because equality is very much a thing in vogue right now. And there are no laws yet in place to persecute transphobic people. So of course this shit's going to draw so much attention to it.
Just some thoughts..

Nick really knows how to incite rage in the masses, I don't know how I feel about this one. I'm usually in support of ruffling some feathers because people are overly sensitive, but taking shots at a transgender hardcore band who doesn't even have a full length yet? Just seems kind of mean spirited, but I'm not going to unload my collection over it or anything. I'm always in support of separating artist and art

NapalmBrain got a reaction from Jettkoral in PO: Flaming Lips - Heady Nuggs 20 Years After Clouds Taste Metallic 1994-1997/5 LP Vinyl Set
They jumped the shark like 5 years ago, and I feel like it's just this cash cow, trying to reel in every last cent they can off every half burnt idea wayne coyne has. They could release a minidisc of them covering Meatloaf "Bat Out Of Hell" trapped inside a passionfruit flavored gummy armadillo and I wouldn't bat an eye. The only thing they could do at this point to shock me is release an album without a zany gimmick or guest star

I don't understand how so many people hate on them, patrick is a great lyricist. I love how starkly negative every song is. Heaven Is Earth is a great album, and probably their best work to date in my opinion

I worked in record stores for 6 years I've heard wayyyyyyyyyyy too much Pearl Jam. I will consent Yield had some different songs and that I'm an overgeneralizing asshole because I heard way too much of them (Ten, Vs., and that stupid Into The Wild Soundtrack in particular). i just don't like Eddie Vedder ok >.>
