Powered Speakers Vs. Sonos
Woutout replied to evan1881's topic in Turntables & Other Audio Equipment
Friend of mine has a Sonos system. Sound quality sucks big time! Just invest your money in a good starter vintage setup. Nice B&W speakers, a good Marantz reciever from the 70's (2238 or similar) and it will completely destroy the Sonos or any new setup for that kind of money. -

Not joking, but i have an old broke Technics and some old records for him to play with. So when dad puts on a record, he can also put his on at the same time;) -

What a great band! Album sounds awesome (bit more on the pop side) on first listen. Also realy like the song with the Bloc Party guitarist on it. Loving all the long songs as well. Will run to te store for the vinyl in 4 days (releasedate is 24/4 in the Netherlands)- 95 replies

No thanks! My 2 year old son already does the jumping here. He also likes driving his toy cars over the TT cover.. -
New amp reveals more noise when playing vinyl: HELP!
Woutout replied to EmmEff's topic in Turntables & Other Audio Equipment
Try and save up for the Bronze or Black. The Blue is better than the Red, but the Bronze is a giant step up. -
Changed my system recently: -Marantz PPM15S1 -B&W 802 series 80 -SMSL dac -Vd Hul cables -Grado SR325i And 2 months ago: -Thorens TD160B, SME III, Goldring 1042 -Cayin MM vacuum tube pre amp Sold the rest of my system, except my Tannoy Cheviot HPD 315A's;)

The Technics is a great TT, but you can do so much better for that price. Buy a Thorens with a good SME arm or a newer VPI and you're set. But first upgrade your cartridge. The earlier mentioned Ortofon Black, Nagaoka MP500 or Goldring 1042 are all excellent choices and a good match for the Technics arm. That Shure cart is pretty bad!

This was my first turntable 5 years ago when i got into vinyl. Fine for a starter table, but all in all not a very good table. The plastic plinth, thin platter (no wonder it skips easy) and cheap arm are all terrible. I've had about 8 different turntables since and they all were major improvements, starting with a second hand JVC QL -7. I now own a Thorens TD160B with SME arm and that cost me less than the DP300-F. -

That 2m red is a very (surface) noisy cartridge. Pretty detailed for the price, but also thin in the midband. I've had about 12 different cartridges, and the best to kill surface noise is my current Goldring 1042 and the less impressive Grado Platinum Wood. -
At the Utrecht record fair yesterday: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Ragged Glory (OP from 1990) Supergrass - Supergrass is 10 (2x 10 inch clear vinyl) QOTSA - Over the years and Through the Woods (bootleg LP) And friday from a local seller: The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute (3lp OP)
-
Do you buy new bootlegs?
Woutout replied to itsgoodtobefree's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Some bootlegs sound great and others are just crap. It's a gamble, but worth it in some cases. I have a Mars Volta boot of Deloused that sounds and looks amazing. Also own an unofficial pressing of Animals by Pink Floyd that sounds better than the OP. But my PJ Harvey (Stories), Soundgarden (Superunknown), QOTSA (Songs for...) all sound terrible.
