  1. I'm going to watch the bejeezus out of this..
  2. From what I understand is that you're just wearing your needle for an extra 12 hours. The advantage of the run out groove is that there are no "notches" in that groove, so the wear should be less than a groove that has music pressed in it. Unless that groove is heavily damaged and snaps, crackles and pops like crazy, I wouldn't worry about it.
  3. Licorice is amazing.. I'm chomping down on some extra salted Dutch licorice as we speak..
  4. Noted. Yep. That's the street price for that album here in Canada
  5. I should probably scroll a little more next time. In that case, $25 is probably an average price for it. Looks like a good starter table. It's quite a bit better than a Crosley in my opinion, but I still wouldn't want to play brand new records on there. Second hand records to get into the hobby and upgrade when you can. It's part of the journey, I think.
  6. Uhm.. I'm new here.. Is reddit frowned upon?
  7. If you get speakers first, you'll have a turntable, records and speakers and you still won't be able to listen to it, but as long as you realize that, you'll be ok. Do you have an exact model number of that JVC turntable? The listing ended, so we can't see it. $100 including shipping seems too cheap to me. Your supply list is correct, or alternatively, you can go for pre-amp and powered speakers (they have the amp built in). Great for tight spaces. These come recommended: AudioEngine A2+ or Emotiva Airmotiv 5s. The trick to speakers is to audition them before you buy them. Don't buy because they're cheap. Speakers are the final stage in the chain and the last step between your record and your ear. If you don't like how your speakers sound, your whole setup is useless. Do NOT impulse-buy speakers!
  8. My post is also posted on Reddit.. Sorry..
  9. Big difference between what I want to do with it and what I should do with it. Want: Pay for a trip back to my motherland. Should: Pay off my credit card
  10. I've been an Rdio subscriber for years. Even when Spotify entered the market in Canada, I didn't switch. I don't have any reason to. The same with Apple Music. Unless they do something significantly different and awesome, I don't have a reason to switch. Someone mentioned The Beatles. Since The Beatles are under Apple's label, they're probably streaming them on Apple Music, but that's not a reason for me to switch.
  11. I'm not a vintage expert, but after doing a lot of research, I was on Kijiji about 24/7 to find a turntable and a vintage integrated amp. I bought my setup for a total of $255. Yamaha Turntable: $110 HK amp (same seller): $110 Paradigm speakers: $35, because both tweeters are shot and the foam need refurbishing. The seller couldn't find tweeters for them, so he gave up and just wanted them gone. I've found replacement tweeters, new for $85, but I haven't made the purchase yet. Re-foaming the woofers is $20 if you do it yourself. For now, I'm using a set of Sony speakers that came with a mini "hifi" set, until I'm done with the Paradigms. So, for $350-ish, I will have a complete vintage set that will probably last me years. I would go that route again. Getting the same setup out of all new gear would costs about 3 or 4 times as much. Just my 2ct.
  12. Story time! A few months ago, I sold my old turntable to this lady that wanted to do something nice for her husband. The husband had a load of vinyl, but nothing to play them on. She kept going on and on about how nice it would be for him to be able to play his records again. I sold the turntable for cheap. Fast forward to Saturday. Out of the blue, I got a facebook message from her, saying that her husband is sick, and they needs money for the medical bills (even though Canadian health care is free, there are some things that are not covered, apparently), so she asked if I was interested in "a few records". Not really in the mood to buy anything, I agreed for her to send me a list of albums that are available. I was expecting the albums that you find in the back of a dollar bin at a thrift store, but she took pictures of all 128 (yes, one hundred and twenty eight) records and sent them to me. As I go through them, I start to realize that this guy has almost the same taste in music as I do, so I get interested. Then, we came to a price. Like I mentioned, I was not in a mood to buy, so I wanted her to give me a price, so I could politely decline. After some hums and ha's, she said "even at 50ct a piece, I'd be happy, so $60 for the whole collection". I texted my wife, who happened to be in the same town as the seller at that time, asking her if she could swing by. About an hour after the initial message, I was the owner of 128 records. Ok, so most of the sleeves have seen better days. The collection was stored in, I'm guessing, a somewhat humid basement for years, but the vinyl itself seems to be in excellent shape. Oh, what's in the collection? Aerosmith, Rod Stewart, Queen, Heart, Lynrd Skynyrd, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Santana, Bob Dylan, Hendrix, Starz, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and a lot more..
  13. Nobody mentioned the new Muse album, Drones. Am I the only one who is really enjoying that one?
  14. Chrome is starting to be a terrible resource hog. Not sure if Firefox would be any better, but it beats Safari and IE..
  15. Have you ever looked up the lyrics to that song? It always makes my brain hurt, because I'm trying to rap along..
  16. Well, he took that like a champ.. We have 26 right now (that's about 80 in fahrenheit), toasty, but I wouldn't worry about heat. Now, to hijack the thread a little. What happens to vinyl if I ship it in -40 weather? Would the vinyl become extra fragile?
  17. I wouldn't even know how to buy (or sell) on Instagram.
  18. Ah, ok. That's kindof what I thought, but I thought there was a global set of rules, you know, the ones that outline things like "don't be a dick", like every forums seem to have. I'll do my best to stick to the rules

  20. At the risk of sounding stupid: I just registered for this awesome community, and I see a red bar across the site saying that I need to take a moment to read the rules of the board, which is fine, and I want to.. but.. where can I read the rules?
  21. And when it finally comes in, you're done with the album before you started playing it... ?
