One of my very good friends is going to be visiting Seattle to see Touche Amore.  I was looking for other shows for us to go to and it turns out City of Caterpillar is playing the night before (with Thou!).  I'm fucking stoked.  I haven't seen any west coast announcements yet and was just browsing venue calendars.  I'd be excited to see them either way, but it being with a longterm friend and fellow fan, makes it that much better.

Stop making me want to Face/Off you, Jon.

Aww I need to start paying closer attention to this thread again. I'm sorry, Dea; hope you find somebody or something to resolve the rut you're in.

Oh no worries haha, but thanks. Hope you're doing well! :) Haven't seen you around too much lately

@tarzioo_ Thanks chica! I hope something does pan out - Midwest has worn out its welcome :P  how are you liking your new job/Seattle?

@BuzzersonKillwell I've heard that recently as well for Amazon - can go through the process a half-dozen times before things line up, weirdly. Thank you for the advice! I really liked the idea of that job specifically (Brand Specialist), so I'm definitely going to hone the skills I need for it. My background is in Civil Engineering, so I was the only one interviewing without a degree business/economics related

  3. Well, didn't get the job in Seattle or Vancouver, and probably turning down the Denver one due to the low-ball offer. Rough weekend

Anyone need a live-in veg. cook/dog walker/sassy best friend? Hmu

My vacation started on Friday. I've been sick as fuck since Friday. Because obviously.

:( Hope you feel better asap! Get those vitamins and sleep in.

There are other girls who like metal. There are other girls who aren't into metal. Some compatibility with music/movies/books/podcasts?/memes? is important, but not as important as some people seem to think.

My girlfriend and I can chill and listen to Metal Machine Music or Merzbow. But if I put on like Converge or These Arms are Snakes she rolls her eyes and makes the jerk off motion. She'll still go to shows and get in the pit with me, because it's what I'm into.

But the strength of a relationship has nothing to do with liking the same bands. Honestly, it's more important that you hate a lot of the same bands. I've dated a lot of people who liked bands I thought were garbage...but I know I could never be in a relationship with someone who didn't hate Phish. Who I am as a person would not be compatible with someone into that kinda thing.

Maybe when she says she doesn't want to be with you she's just lashing out. Maybe it's how she really feels bubbling to the surface. Either way, it doesn't sound healthy for either of you.

As usual, pure unadulterated gold. Take heed, @Gumbo72203

  5. @Gumbo72203 , I think you honestly need to look at the relationship in its entirety, not just the day to day goings. She apologized; great. But what's the point if she has openly told you numerous times that she doesn't want a relationship or to be with you? From the sounds of it, I understand that you have interests you want your partner to share with you, but if she's not emotionally mature enough to handle the important aspects of a relationship, she shouldn't be involved in one.

As an aside, maybe I'm cut from a different cloth, but if I have to fight for someone to want to be with me, I've already lost interest.

Ugh, I was reaaalllly stoked on the two new Dave Chappelle stand up sets on Netflix. He's transphobic as fuck in both. A little bit misogynist and homophobic too. Most of it is within acceptable "Well he's a stand up comic doing a bit..." standards, but overall it's ~problematic~. Which hurts to say.  It's not malicious or anything, but it's just south of ok.

He's still fucking hilarious for the most part, but it's just offensive enough (in the wrong way) to bother me.

Like...his heart is almost in the right place but he's intelligent enough that it's jarring and upsetting when he crosses the line in the wrong place on several occasions. He's clearly not a monster, but he says some shit that's enough to be a problem. In each special there were a couple things that ruined my enjoyment.

And I still think Louis CK is the funniest living comic despite the truly fucked up shit that's come out about him. So this isn't just some "PC police SJW" shit. I put a lot of thought into it from a lot of different angles.

Man, that's truly a bummer to hear. I haven't gotten around to watching them yet, and while your review doesn't necessarily turn me off from wanting to entirely, it doesn't make me as excited about the prospect.

I've always thought of him as intelligent and witty enough to make social commentary without ignorance/hate/fear :/

Found some cool stuff at a thrift store and am not keeping all of it. Does anyone need a clean old copy of Prince 1999? Figured I'd give you guys here first dibs

How much you willing to let it go for? May need to pull out my copy to see the condition first, and if it's worth getting a cleaner one.

Speaking of solid finds, I found a Dino-Riders thermos this weekend as well as a brand new unopened copy of Beirut's No No No in an antique store. Best $7 ever spent.

    So another update.

We spoke earlier today and I finally got the truth. With the divorce and everything she couldn't commit herself to any relationship. However, she still wants to basically meet people/hook up. And that's why she's seeing the ex. And she told me she wanted us to go back to being friends, possibly with benefits if I can handle it. I honestly feel a lot better than I did now that she was finally honest. I've accepted that we won't be together again but she's still my best friend and we've been through a lot over the last 8+ years. I rejoined some dating sites so I'm putting myself back out there again. What are your thoughts about the FWB thing? If anything, i do notice I am in a better mood when I'm getting some slightly regularly.

As far as fwb is concerned, not worth risking your friendship over, what with how tumultuous just the past couple weeks seem to have been for you both.

Yeah, it's frustrating.  I've got an early flight tomorrow that'll put me in NYC around 4PM.  Sucks to lose half a day, but I prefer that to scrapping the whole trip.  If that flight gets cancelled, I'll end up cancelling the whole trip and try again next month.

Sorry to hear - winter has been bogus everywhere this year.

Hopefully cancelling doesn't cost too much?

  10. Morning everyone :)

Seattle was a blast but exhausting as all hell - seemed like I never really had a chance to relax, especially with switching hotels/visiting family and friends. I'm sorry I couldn't find time for coffee @BuzzersonKillwell and @tarzioo_ :( I know who I'll be hitting up when I eventually make the move, though!

On the positive side, Amazon has to have the nicest offices I've ever seen (with puppers galore!) and the interview process, while long and mentally challenging, was exhilarating in its own right. Hoping for the best!

p.s. The poutine at Highline is fantastic (a little garlicky if you're into that), and could easily be shared with 4+ people @jonrawks
