We're in a giant house on the water (I think its a weird salt/freshwater mix inlet) in Virginia. It's a gorgeous property. Hella bathrooms and lounges and shit. My girlfriend is napping on a hammock on the upstairs deck, her parents are golfing, and I'm shooting some pool by myself. Pretty relaxing vacation, illness aside.

Feel better soon. Nothing worse than being sick on vacation.

It's my last week off work, and I'm feeling much better with the new meds. I really don't want to go back, but whatever. I have a few phone interviews this week, so I'll see how those go. Also am going to see a psychiatrist starting tomorrow, so hopefully that helps too.

So the date with this new girl went really well yesterday.  Went to a record fair and had lunch, plus we talked for hours. Very happy with how things are going.

Had a great time drinking with a friend of mine who I don't see much (had a kid ~8 months ago, so she's pretty busy).  Only problem was I kind of feel like I ruined my whole weekend,  since I've been bumming around the house with a hangover all day today.  Seeing Deafheaven, Emma Ruth Rundle and This Will Destroy You tonight.  Such a solid lineup.

There are other girls who like metal. There are other girls who aren't into metal. Some compatibility with music/movies/books/podcasts?/memes? is important, but not as important as some people seem to think. 
 
My girlfriend and I can chill and listen to Metal Machine Music or Merzbow. But if I put on like Converge or These Arms are Snakes she rolls her eyes and makes the jerk off motion. She'll still go to shows and get in the pit with me, because it's what I'm into. 
 
But the strength of a relationship has nothing to do with liking the same bands. Honestly, it's more important that you hate a lot of the same bands. I've dated a lot of people who liked bands I thought were garbage...but I know I could never be in a relationship with someone who didn't hate Phish. Who I am as a person would not be compatible with someone into that kinda thing.
 
Maybe when she says she doesn't want to be with you she's just lashing out. Maybe it's how she really feels bubbling to the surface. Either way, it doesn't sound healthy for either of you.

I watched it with a friend tonight.  Some of the plot threads (mainly the gallery stuff) where a bit useless and I have some other small complaints, but overall I found it to be a fun Friday night movie.  I definitely agree that a few tweaks would've been beneficial, some of the dialogue was pretty cheesy.  Sunn O))) music being used was a big plus for me and it fit SO well!

Stay with someone because you love them and want to make it work but don't stay with someone out of pity. That's neither helpful for you or them. I wish you clarity and chillness in this situation.

This is your answer right here. You need to get out, break clean, and just block the number. Don't bother. It's obvious she has no idea what she wants, but it's not going to help you in any way to continue to be weighed down by her poor decisions.  Bi-polar or not, nobody needs that kind of constant negativity, because it's going to start effecting your life in different ways as well, and you may not even notice it before it's too late.

So I connected with someone on Bumble this week and we met for coffee yesterday. It went really well! No awkwardness in our conversation and she seems really nice. Plus she's really cute and tall. I asked her to come with me to a record fair on Sunday and she said yes!

myles karr (who has done a bunch of my work) has been doing this rad crazy mashup dice roll game called The Most Dangerous Game...got to go see him and roll some dice a couple months ago and wound up with this crazy tiger nurse.

first roll I got the tiger...second roll determines how to modify the design and I got a three-way mashup...next 2 rolls got me a traditional nurse and that bird with the sword and the worm. myles threw them all together and this is what happened haha. he is so weird I fucking love him.

Ugh, I was reaaalllly stoked on the two new Dave Chappelle stand up sets on Netflix. He's transphobic as fuck in both. A little bit misogynist and homophobic too. Most of it is within acceptable "Well he's a stand up comic doing a bit..." standards, but overall it's ~problematic~. Which hurts to say.  It's not malicious or anything, but it's just south of ok. 
 
He's still fucking hilarious for the most part, but it's just offensive enough (in the wrong way) to bother me.
 
Like...his heart is almost in the right place but he's intelligent enough that it's jarring and upsetting when he crosses the line in the wrong place on several occasions. He's clearly not a monster, but he says some shit that's enough to be a problem. In each special there were a couple things that ruined my enjoyment.
 
And I still think Louis CK is the funniest living comic despite the truly fucked up shit that's come out about him. So this isn't just some "PC police SJW" shit. I put a lot of thought into it from a lot of different angles.

This is Christopher (guitarist/keys of Cathedral Ring). I just wanted to jump in and drop a few lines about the ad in question.
 
First I just want to say thanks for actually checking it out and sharing. We appreciate that we are even being discussed by people who actually know the genre.  Also thanks for pointing out that overall we just sound like "ourselves". We are not out to bite anyone's sound or ride any coatails. Obviously we have a ton of influences but if the take away from a listen was we're just us that's a hell of a compliment or a good jab if you hate it, haha.
 
As for the ad, I think abovetheearth summed it up quite well but to further clarify. It was a simple FFO: (insert staples). There was no "Sounds like..." anywhere in that ad or in any ad we've ever run. 
 
Basically due to the way Facebook operates it's difficult to reach people when your advertising budget is smaller so you kind of work within these frustrating cookie cutter parameters in order to reach as many people as possible. Personally I hate when albums I buy come with stickers listing other bands on them but I get why they work. 
 
Essentially that ad was just letting people know these guys are instrumental. We don't want to mislead people who hate that style while also attempting to reach those who love it. That's where those staples come into play because as we all know, even those who don't have a clue tend to recognize something like EITS. It's just a reference point or a flag that says this is or isn't for you.
