Stoked for new Thou. And I'm happy that it's not a 2xLP. I like the longer albums, but I'm ready for something more succinct.

I need to revisit Thantifaxath. It didn't grab me, but I seem to have a thing for this vein of black metal. Telos and Canyon Observer are new to me, but based on the over art alone I will have to give those a listen.

Liturgy (surprisingly because this is the first album of theirs that really worked for me) and Horrendous are my clear favorites this year. Also loved: Tar Pond (criminally overlooked, and easily the best doom album other than Bell Witch) Bell Witch Fabricant Agriculture Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean Godflesh Oxbow (not metal, but also oddly overlooked, their best yet IMO) Godflesh Vestigio Ex Everything Gridlink KEN Mode Cicada the Burrower Entropia (unfortunately not as good as their last two, but still amazing) Sunrot

I ordered this, but it's stuck with relatives in the US. I will collect it one of these days. It's a cool album that has aged quite well. The last track "Curl" is my favorite. I remember hearing it back in the nineties and being fascinated by how incredibly noisy, yet melodic it is. Definitely an album shoegaze fans should check out.

Same. There have been some superb songs here and there, but as a whole I haven't found the albums to be compelling. I think Dial M was the last one that I really felt like going back to consistently.

Buying a turntable is a bit like buying a musical instrument. You want want to avoid cheap plastic parts at all costs. You also wouldn’t expect to buy a proper one new for less than a few hundred. That being said, I‘ve also bought several turntables used for less than a hundred that work great, though usually I end up doing a little tinkering to get them properly set up. Old Duals and Garrards are generally easy to find for cheap, but there are many other options.

What's so terrible about the PVC sleeve? Of course a transparent plastic O-card would look nicer, and I've had some PVC sleeves split on me... just curious. I like the standard layout a lot, but my records sound pretty bad, so I would definitely be interested in this edition. I understand that all that embossing and premium paper entails a fair amount of extra effort and cost, but I'm not sure if I'm enough of a minimalist to actually get excited about it. This is the kind of thing I might buy at a show, but there's just no way I can justify shipping it to Europe and also paying import taxes.

This is undeniably beautiful, but it's not enough to make me want to listen to it again. To me, it needs some noise or some weirdness, I'm missing a contrasting element of some kind.

This is exciting. The self-titled album has held up really well, it's right up there with Souvlaki in my opinion. However, the pressing for it was terrible, my copy is not even worth listening to. Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

Agreed. They could probably have printed the lyrics on the inner sleeves at least. The audio story is fun, though not something I'd listen to repeatedly. Even so, the fact that it's only the first act, and not the whole story, is a bit irksome.

I almost cancelled my order a few times based on the streaming version. For whatever reason, once I played through the actual records I felt much differently. The sound feels a lot more natural in this format, which helps a lot. I guess the biggest surprise for me is that even at its gargantuan length, it somehow keeps me wanting to listen.

Anyone had a chance to listen to the vinyl yet? I got over my initial frustrations and ended up preordering the standard version. To my surprise, I‘ve come around to the album. There are still plenty of choices I‘m not thrilled about, but I‘ve found it surprisingly enjoyable to listen to, especially with the LP format dividing things up into chunks. There is some really great stuff in here, especially some of the mellower, mid-paced stuff that didn‘t click at first.

Never heard either of these, so they are now on my list.

I would be particularly excited for a nice pressing of Lateralus. I tried to play the CD the other day and boy, it sounds like garbage at higher volumes.

Sadly, this isn't on vinyl (yet), but Billy Corgan's first solo album (THEFUTUREEMBRACE), has held up incredibly well. It had been at least a decade since I listened to it. I remember I was on a trip to Chicago, I walked to a music store and bought the CD on release day, my first daughter was asleep strapped to my torso in one of those baby carriers. When I pulled it out a couple weeks ago, it was pretty amazing to hear. Obviously it has some memories attached to it (my daughter is 18 now) from a time in my life that is very much a blur, but the music sounds great either way. No one wanted to give him credit back then, but that album was very much ahead of its time.

I listened through the CD set today. What a masterpiece. Now I need to find a way to track this down without those stupid post-brexit import fees.

I ended up grabbing both as well, and I'm really glad I did. Everything is really nicely done, from the sound to the vinyl colors and jackets, and for whatever reason I've finally been able to enjoy CODY a lot more than I have until now.
