  1. I did ask Secretly Store about this and received this reply: "The new limited edition is simply a re-issue of the original master. "
  2. I loved his Fear Agent book and enjoyed a couple of his Marvel runs (Punisher and X-Force) but most of his stuff has left me pretty cold. Has anyone tried the Fantagraphics All Time Comics line yet? I've been pleasantly surprised with all of the issues out so far. Retro art & writing style but with some more modern gore and profanity. But they're not making fun of the old styles, it really reads as an homage. I've also been working through the Copra collections lately which also take an indie comics sort of approach to superhero comics. It took a few issues for me to get with the vibe/storytelling but I''m almost done Round 3 and am loving it. I started re-reading Mage: The Hero Discovered in anticipation of the new book.
  3. Ooh, this has me intrigued. What was the rumour? A new pressing of Idler Wheel and Extraordinary?
  4. Dance Movie are from Halifax, NS and their 2nd album was recorded and produced by John Goodmanson. I thought he might have some fans here. You can stream one track on their Bandcamp page: https://dancemovie.bandcamp.com/album/pierce Looks like they're pressing 100 copies of the album on vinyl. They've been playing several of these songs at shows for the past couple years and they sound great live.
  5. There will be though, at least according to all of the press around the announcement of the reissue series: http://pitchfork.com/news/68446-beck-launches-vinyl-reissue-series-with-odelay-sea-change-and-guero/ " Reissues for Mellow Gold, Mutations, Midnight Vultures, The Information, and Modern Guilt are also forthcoming. "
  6. Weirdly, I got a shipping notice on Saturday the 10th. Did they actually get more signed stock or did they wait weeks to send a regular unsigned copy? Time will tell.
  7. I don't know if anyone on this board knows Jenn Grant. Ba Da Bing is taking pre-orders now on her 6th full-length album. http://grapefruitrecordclub.com/products/grant-jenn-paradise-lp-pre-order It's also up on her Bandcamp, where you can stream the first single: https://jenngrant.bandcamp.com/album/paradise Her Bandcamp site also allows streaming from some of her previous albums. If you're looking to try a couple tracks my faves from her first album (which can be streamed in full on Bandcamp) are White Horses and Dreamer. Her last album, Compostela, can also be streamed on the site. My favourite on that one is Trailer Park. Unfortunately The Beautiful Wild's not up for streaming right now, it's a real gem of an album. Jenn's a great Canadian talent. She tours a lot too, and is well worth checking out if she comes to your neck of the woods.
  8. Mine hasn't even started the shipping process yet, so I don't have a good feeling about actually getting a signed copy.
  9. D'oh, I just went last night. Seems like he's still selling plenty of these. By the end of the show the allotment for the show was sold out. Great show.
  10. I once ordered a Schoolboy Q CD from Top Dawg. It was advertised as being signed as well. Here's what the signature on it looked like: It didn't bother me at all, as that's not why I bought it. I just thought it was funny. The Top Dawg camp needs to work on their signatures!
  11. I haven't streamed the album itself yet (meaning to) but I did read this article and found it very engaging/interesting. Thanks for sharing.
  12. I received mine in Nova Scotia two days ago. Nice avatar btw. Love that album/art.
  13. I'm excited for this album. Will buy locally. You've Changed is one of my favourite labels. So many good records.
  14. Same here. Recordstore.co.uk had signed copies of Sexwitch, so I'll keep an eye out for possible signed copies there.
  15. I would normally be pretty open to a deluxe edition from acts I've enjoyed for a while, but the vinyl is picture discs in the deluxe sets. Seems like a weird decision to me.
  16. How about a positive experience? I bought a new LP at the local store yesterday. It was supposed to include a download, but my copy did not. I emailed the label, Ribbon Music, to let them know and ask for a download. It was just a general info@ address so I figured it would take several days to hear back from them and that there was a decent shot I'd hear nothing within a week and have to pirate the digital copy. But someone from Ribbon replied two minutes later to let me know she'd handle it and she sent a link to the files two minutes after that. Super impressed with Ribbon Music's customer service.
  17. I'm a fairly hardcore Sloan fan. Excited for this but I do wish they hadn't skipped the first album with these sets.
  18. I've been enjoying Kurt Vile's Randy Newman cover lately.
  19. Yeah, Whine was great but for whatever reason I'm enjoying the new one even more. Their first compilation CD had some good tracks on it too. Worth checking out if you haven't yet. Do you know that band Beams? I think they're a Toronto band. I really loved their debut CD a couple/few years ago. One of my recent Toronto faves. And just because you mentioned a couple Guelph acts, have you ever checked out Alanna Gurr? I loved her Late At Night album. I think that's probably a good idea. Haha. This must indeed be pretty tough for someone living in New York. I feel like even here in NS I don't hear much about Moncton bands, more about Sackville.
  20. I think my all-time favourite Toronto album is probably Sarah Harmer's 'You Were Here.' I don't really know much Halifax-area music from before the 90s. My favourite albums from the early to mid-90s alt. boom are: Jale - Dreamcake Sloan - Twice Removed Hardship Post - Somebody Spoke In terms of more recent stuff these would be my faves: Jenn Grant - The Beautiful Wild Old and Weird - What I Saw Mauno - Rough Master Mike O'Neill - Wild Lines Dark For Dark - Warboats Gabrielle Papillon - The Tempest of Old Gianna Lauren - On Personhood Jennah Barry - Young Men Kim Harris - Only the Mighty Quiet Parade - s/t My faves so far in 2016 from Halifax are: Nap Eyes - Thought Rock Fish Scale Ronok Sarkar - Waiting For Alice There should be several more good ones coming.
  21. For sure. Really well curated label. So happy to see Nap Eyes added to the fold.
  22. Not sure if this band has fans here. They had a very solid album in Parc Avenue a while back and have had more divided response on their couple albums since then, but I still like them and the first single for the new one sounds good. Label PO: http://www.secretcityrecords.com/store#album-waltzed-lp The ever-popular Bull Moose PO: http://www.bullmoose.com/p/21994617/plants-and-animals-waltzed-in-from-the First single: https://soundcloud.com/secretcityrecords/plants-and-animals-stay
  23. Have either of you guys heard Shotgun Jimmie before? He's operating on a very similar wavelength. You can stream his most recent few albums on his label's bandcamp site: https://youvechangedrecords.bandcamp.com/album/still-jimmie https://youvechangedrecords.bandcamp.com/album/transistor-sister https://youvechangedrecords.bandcamp.com/album/everything-everything My list: Sleater-Kinney - No Cities to Love Laura Marling - Short Movie Mauno - Rough Master EL VY - Return to the Moon Torres - Sprinter Kacey Musgraves - Pageant Material Rah Rah - Vessels Blur - The Magic Whip U.S. Girls - Half Free
  24. You can listen to a track from each album here: http://www.stereogum.com/1855666/islands-announce-two-new-albums-share-lead-singles-back-into-it-charm-offensive-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/
