  1. Well, for one thing, there is a much greater selection on itunes than on target. I doubt that any of the music I have purchased off of itunes over the past year is sold at target or any retail-like chain. Another reason is that downloading is cheaper. Last time I checked in the US, new CDs were about $12-$17. In Japan, a new CD goes for $30 (as do LPs and cassettes, I don't know why). So for the budgetly constraint, downloading gives you the most for your buck.
  2. I prefer mp3 to CD. I don't like owning things, so mp3 albums just exist in my ipod, it's mess free. For my absolute favorite albums, I will pick them up on vinyl as well, but the vast majority of my music is on mp3. That said, I don't like this idea of "itunes LP" at least it shouldn't be called "lp"
  3. Last time I had a record bent really bad I put it in between two pieces of cardboard and then put it in between my mattress and box spring. I slept on top of it for a few weeks and it was playable. I don't have a bed.. But I sleep on a futon that's on the floor, so that might just work! Thanks!
  4. is it a bad idea to try to flatten them under a bookshelf?
  5. I've been trying to buy outer sleeves for record jackets, but when I get home, I realize that I've bought inner sleeves. Done this twice. First time I ended up with "Nagaoka" anti-static sleeves. Similar to these pictured: http://www.henryk.ca/Inventory%20Image/Sell%20New/43-Nagaoka%20Sleeves.jpg I inserted these into all the paper white sleeves. It's working well, but today I mistakenly came home with these other sleeves, but there's no brand. They are clear squares with a white paper side that's covered in plastic. Looks really cool for colored vinyl, but I don't know if they're anti static, so I'm sticking to the nagaoka for now? Any suggestions? I don't know much about record care. Thanks
  6. Here's a fun story: I hadn't bought a record in over a decade. I became nostalgic for the collection, asked my family to send some of it to me, to find out that the valuable records were missing, remaining LPs left stacked up and remaining 7" found in a garage in FL.. could have been there for over 3 years.. Over the past few weeks, I've tried to get back a Screeching Weasel and friends collection via ebay, gemm, and other online stores. But half the records from my mailorders are coming in bent out of shape. I just can't believe that sellers don't take the time to put valuable records in protective boxes. Some questions about bent/warp records. Can playing them damage the stylus? Is there away, outside of glass tables and heat, to set them back to shape? Anybody get records like this in the mail?
  7. I'm interested in this LP as well. Saw a pic of a clearish/lightgreyishbluish version. Saw the LP in a record store today, it was the black version. Any info on the clearishlightgreyishbluishversion?
  8. You're also missing Snappy Answers... and/or Happy, Horny... I don't have those on mp3, though I know they're on the bootleg punk rock superheroes cd, but when I owned that CD 12 years ago, I didn't know it was those EPs. Also, I haven't found horny online. Over the past three weeks, I found all the other records. They are coming in the mail, have about half. Also missing in the ipod pics are the reissues. didn't feel like doing four on the floor and punk usa.
  9. fuck, I messed up. I kept the remastered of wiggle because I cannot decide which is better. i did take a picture of el mozote. by the way, I'm that guy that emailed you with the questions
  10. The Audio-technica SP120's were marked down to $30 from $100. They have been discontinued. I bought them for their looks, my record player is white AT, so I bought white AT speakers. Almost all small speakers sounded like shit at the store. Except for the pairs that go over $150. Bookshelf sized speakers were surprising all over $300 per speaker. But I would need that thing that regulates sound for those, What's it called, a receiver?
  11. I'm a native speaker of English, with a degree in creative writing and I don't know the word "extrapolate." However, I've forgotten many a English words. Thanks for your reply
  12. this is a personal question. for me personally, I would say that if I got to 40 it would be too much.
  13. Well, I just started buying records again two weeks ago. There is a series of record shops called Disk Union. There is Record Shop Base. There's a great punk oriented one near Shinjuku called Vinyl pt. 2. The part one is non-punk, but I've never been there. That's all I know. I'm just going to mail order for now on. Records are expensive here and it's easier for me to mail order as shipping is just as much as riding the trains to the stores.
  14. Thanks.. I've been listening to the split since April when I purchased it from itunes! Love "On the Clock"
  15. su-wa-dee kap actually, I'm an American living in Japan. by the way, it's i-ra-sshai-ma-se
  16. When this happens, I blame the sender. You have to assume the worst is going to happen when mailing a record and bend-proof the box. Double, triple sturdy cardboard inside the box. The Asianman box looks like this flimsy turd of a box that came in my mail last week with the record so bent up that it was unplayable.
  17. due to its analog signal, does that mean that tapes also sound better than digital media? If so, would video be superior to DVD? Also, how can I make my set up sound better? I just got back into vinyl after a 10 year absence. I bought an AT-PL300 which allows itself to be hooked up directly to speakers. Because I live in a little Japanese apartment and don't want to be a burden on neighbors (and because real speakers costs hundreds of dollars), I bought AT-SP120 speakers. Everything is pretty and white, but the speakers sound like shit. However, when I hook headphones to the speakers, the sound is live and beautiful. Any tips or recommended speakers so I can improve my set-up without annoying the neighbors? I'd like to have a clean sound to play at a low volume. Thanks for reading
  18. Not Economically Viable is in the works, album is getting totally overhauled, re-mixed, remastered, updated artwork, bonus track, the works...shit's just taking forever to get done. Hopefully after that one will be Ill at Ease, but we need to find the Anti-flag dudes. Sounds good! I love the cover of Not Economically Viable Will there be plans to have 21st Cent. Powerpop Riot on itunes? Or is it too difficult because it's a cover album? I'm confused about the Copyrights split LP. It seems like it's not out yet from reading this site, but I've held one in my hands from a record store in Tokyo called "Record Store Base" (ordered my copy through here to support this site and let locals get it at the local store) Did the store get an advanced copy?
  19. Thanks for the welcome. By the way Ribbed needs to be pressed on a condom picture disk. The b-side could have something extra.
  20. I had a nice SW collection 10 years ago. When I came to this country 4 years ago, I took only an ipod. Over the past few months, I grew nostalgic for SW records and googled them for hours (hey, I swore off porn), which led to Hickey's posts, which led to asking my family to send them my records, which led to the discovery that all the rare SW were missing, all 7" found in the garage (in FL) and LPs stacked inside on top of each other. In a burst of rage, I spent some of my savings trying to reclaim my SW collection via online dealers. Repeat visits to the thread where Hickey posted his pictures helped me in my search. I ordered from this site and checked out the board. There was a thread on comics, so I knew this was a good place to join up. Plus, I have no friends that are into SW, so it's interesting to find like minds.
  21. The Methadones have become one of my favorite, most listened to bands this year (just got back into music after half a decade doing other things). I would really like to see their other LPs get a vinyl treatment.
  22. I picked up So Long and thanks for all the shoes.. It was the only NOFX LP I had when I lived in the States and to this day, my fav nofx album. I just bought a record player a few weeks ago, so it would be nice to give this record a spin again.
