  1. IMO,  a good 10-30 second teaser shows enough to give the listener a solid idea of what to expect from a song, so they can get pumped. Maybe include one line of vocals or a piece of the main musical melody. When it is a nondescript instrumental piece, you are only going to get its context in hindsight after you hear the full song. Unless the 'identity' of the whole album is in this more discordant and ambient sound?

  2. It makes sense from the marketer's point of view but I'm not a fan of cryptic, distorted teaser videos that have distorted ambient music. I'd prefer to see a new press photo of the band or a 15 second clip of one of the twins playing a guitar track in the studio ala Boxer. Or even just a screenshot of a note that says "New album coming soon!" All that said, I love the National and am glad they're back.

I saw Thom Yorke in a grocery store in LA today. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"
I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Thom trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Hey all. This is Thom Yorke. I found some bloke's phone on the tube and it was opened and logged in to this thread. Anyone who can get me in contact with the rightful owner gets a free copy of the blue OK Comp reissue (if I can actually secure one from the distributor, TBD).

I just got into them a few months ago. I looked up the first album to see if there were any color pressings and now I want some of the OG ones. There arent any on ebay or discogs other than black.

If you were looking for a color pressing and weren't strict about it being a first pressing, their old label has color copies: http://www.tinyengines.net/products/528159-cayetana-nervous-like-me-lp

Well. It may not be referral code related...but I'm getting the shaft on getting a simple question answered. All I want to know is by reactivating my formerly-known-as-Crate monthly sub, as they pushed to, does it get me in the mix for Tidal. That's all want to know. But nooooooooooo...no reply for almost two days now and of course they're ignoring everyone on FB and Twitter.

Unless you were asking them for an exception to be made in your case (or unless I'm completely misreading your question), the answer is that the $6 Crate sub no longer exists. So, you couldn't re-activate to it.

8 messages, all of which ended in what amounts to "Whoopsie! *shrug*  If you know the other person like a friend maybe we can do something but you're SOOL otherwise" after being a member for a month, not a few days. Not really comparable.

Also not interested in excuses; more revenue means paying for more code-monkeys and server capacity if they care about customer service. No excuses to sit back, count money, and have disgruntled new subscribers.

I actually went back and counted and it was 18 messages spread out over 1 month (my link stopped working twice in that time span), so my mistake for misremembering it as taking less time/messages.

Still, it's not about the # of messages, the #of days one is a member, or any hyper-specific # totals. It's about your theory that VMP can easily fix a broken referral link in less than 1 day but, for whatever reason, don't want to help you. I don't think that is a reality-based argument but I agree with your feelings that it's upsetting to deal with it right now during peak sign-up periods. I would be upset too.

So not only does my referral link not work, when I asked them for help, this is what I get: " I've contacted our tech people about this and they can't do anything about it yet. If you have you friend sign up now I will manually give credits to both of you. That's the best I can offer right now sorry to say. We've had plenty of issues the past 24 hours and I'm sorry this is apart of the aftermath"

 Because there aren't 5000 other users with working referral links/codes in this forum alone. They're never getting my money again and I'm already foregoingoing buying anything from their store.

And I subscribed for Demon Days last month for the first time. Moral of the story: Referrals only work for veteran users.

I'm in Canada; I need the referral codes because I don't get cheap/free shipping and the cost is already much more expensive. FUBAR.

Might as well edit my signature and remove the link.

My referral code didn't work a few months ago. It took 3-4 messages and a few days to sort out. I think this is just bad timing for you since it's a hype heavy, panic inducing, FOMO-full moment in vinyl referral history. It's not a scheme to reward veteran members by punishing new members.

All the referral links are still down. Maybe VMP had to give up  too many monies this month over DD and they nuked the program?

It's their whole website down, not just referral links.

Everything except the home page is still up. They are saying that the home page being down and all other pages still working is just a weird hiccup. The effect is that it prevents referral codes from being used but I don't think it's an intentional secret plot to curb referrals.

  9. I wanted to apologize for continuing to poke fun at the hysteria of everyone slamming this thread with their referral codes by repeating a bit where I'm flustered that everyone wants to use my code and I refuse to share it, etc.

To show that I was merely joking and that I take slamming this thread with referral codes seriously, here is my actual code:

What are some quality Sleeve City products y'all recommend? I'm already buying my inner sleeves there, but wanted to take advantage of the discount and combined shipping.

A lot of people love their 2.5 super clear sleeves. They are really clear.

The 3.0 budget sleeves (100 pack) are great too and the ones I prefer (and cost less). IMO, I like the gummier sleeves that feel/look like the ones you see in record stores. The handling is nice and they don't easily slide, like the 2.5 clear sleeves, so it's less anxiety inducing to place a stack of records on a table or shelf for a moment. My records in 2.5 clear sleeves often slide .0001 seconds after I put them down and I have to make sure they don't fall off the surface I've just placed them on.

The 5.0 clear sleeves are like putting your records in a tank. It feels like overkill to me. I only bought 1 pack of those and didn't feel like I needed that thick of a sleeve.

My problem is that VMP purposefully opened up extra full subscription spots to deplete their stock, which shafted crate subscription members. They made a conscious decision to grab the extra money and sell more subscriptions rather than reserve a predetermined amount for their store, which they have literally always done up until now.

VMP had a "cap" on new full subscription spots and opened up that cap for this release? I honestly didn't know they limited their membership sign-ups like that.

I also didn't know that VMP "reserved" a predetermined amount of AOTM copies for their store. I always thought that, when all monthly subscribers had received a copy, leftovers are made available on the store (and for swaps). Do you have a link to where they mention that, every month, a number of AOTMs are reserved for the member store?
