  1. I believe people dunked on him cause he did embarrassing stuff like making typos, releasing silly nostalgia-bait titles that don’t really make sense as music releases, and coming up with bizarre/confusing cover EPs. And AFAIK he’s since stopped making as many of the same blunders and being as easy to make fun of. Now, what’s frustrating about him is no longer his follies but the fact that he’s denied all of us of a familiar easy target.

Also he’s solid with customer service which goes a long ways with changing people’s tune.

    Media: Mint (M)

    Sleeve: Generic

Vinyl is brand new - never been played!

    Small sticker on label.

    Comes in clear protective sleeve.

Buyer feedback: NEGATIVE. Seller sent record in saran wrap with shipping label literally on record. Arrived broken. Refused to give refund. Had to file a PayPal claim & seller sent belligerent emails and threats.

Seller response: SCAMMER!!!! SELLERS BEWARE!!!!! I only sell records that are M or higher. Unreasonable and just wanted a free record!!!!!!!!! DO NOT SELL TO THEMMM!!!!

I knew it was gonna be this when I saw the thread title. It's hilarious but not really that big of a deal when you factor in the fact that the label was probably asking them to return a clearly broken record for a new one. There's really no reason they should have had to return it so this seems like a petty response.

This is my theory. Either it was broken already and they were asked to return it or the customer was just upset that they didn’t get a no questions asked Amazon style replacement on a warp or ding and this was their act of protest.

  4. Missing out on the /500 killed the "I need the vinyl" FOMO for me.

Music wise, this is like the most adult Rivers Cuomo song. The lyrics are simple and easy but they make some sense and there are no random, shoe-horned 5 syllable proper nouns from his lyrics spreadsheet. Very interested to hear if this is their "we're making a noticeable effort" late career gem.

And they have another album supposedly still waiting to release? I can never keep up with this band. Weezer super-fans must be so happy with the influx of music from them in the past 5 years.

    EWBAITE- happy

    White - happy

    Pacific Daydream - very sad

Black Album - very sad minus High as a Kite which is a pretty dope song

    OK Human - tentatively happy

Van Weezer - happy enough, seems like it’ll be fun and not too embarrassing

THIS. But, I’m cautiously optimistic it might be good based on the (high) quality of the 3 Van Weezer singles.

I believe Rivers has a ‘career masterpiece’ piano-driven/orchestral pop record in him, even if it isn’t a proper Weezer sound. I can also see this being Pacific Daydream with more strings.

  7. These kinds of dudes get off on LARPing as silenced and oppressed to after-the-fact justify their natural state of being awful blowhards.

For some reason, I always lumped him in with Connan Mockasin (sic) as two blonde haired dudes whose music I could listen to for 5 minutes without my ears being able to process or identify anything. Sorry to CM for mentally pairing him with this dude.

  8. Vaguely reminds me of Los Angeles venues like the Whiskey-A-Go-Go getting eager acts to essentially agree to personally buy a sold out shows’ worth of tickets off their misguided hope of reselling them to a fan base that doesn’t exist. This happened to my little brother when he was 15 and my mom made me drive him back to their office and make them cancel the contract. They refused at first but they couldn’t really argue much since he was under 18 and it had been less than 24 hours since him and his HS friends signed it. Lol.

Most weeks I sell and ship out around 50+ orders.  But yeah like any other record store I have stock that sits a little longer than others.  Man wouldn't it suck if you went to a record store and they didn't have any records?  Having stock isn't the same as being "stuck with".

But anyways FBR ...can't wait to see if we get any first time pressed records later in the subscription.  PLEASE give me some Hush Sound.

Who has the best refund policy/service on unopened merchandise? Vinyl Me Please, Urban Outfitters, or Mondo?

Please don't regularly give in to scammers because it's easier to deal with guys.

Despite popular belief they don't just give buyers their money back automatically and there are no terms that say the speed of a government run business is the sellers fault as long as they don't actually lose the item.

A simple "Your tracking has been provided, I apologize for the delay but it's out of my hands. If there are any issues after receiving your record I will gladly accept the returned item for a full refund." Solves the issue most of the time. If the buyer is unreasonable and wants to keep the item and get a refund despite your offer I promise paypal will deny their claim. Only the most stubborn of stubborn will ship something back for taking too long.

I literally don’t have time/energy to do this with a $10 order by a customer who is already riled up. And I wouldn’t call them a scammer automatically or in this instance. More opportunist, IMO.

  11. I had one person who dropped their claim after I explained that the tracking shows it’s still moving albeit slowly, asked them if they could hold for another week or two, and assured them that, worst case scenario, I’d gladly refund them if it’s truly lost or accept a return with full refund if they no longer want it because of the delay.

The other person opened the claim with a long paragraph pre-arguing a “it didn’t arrive by Xmas, it’s lost its value, I don’t want it” so I just apologized and refunded them. Better to eat $13 and move on with my life than try and convert someone who comes in guns a-blazing.

In general, hobby sellers can be a bit too personally invested and expend more emotional energy than required to resolve issues but I do think, as a general message, we should all take an extra breath this season, buyers included. I have 4-5 other customers waiting on packages who have quietly opened cases with USPS to try and expedite their package arriving or just been hanging tight. It’s much appreciated.

If we're talking about this person, it's the infamous Wil Taylor. I'd recommend against buying it unless you like your records thrown against walls and covers bent every which way before receiving it.

    Yikes.

I was referring to another eBay user who has since taken the listing down. It was at $100 then they kept raising it $50 like every 12 hours. It was $250 before the listing was closed.

I'm curious about this part: how is paypal handling disputes with usps being overloaded? I can't imagine dinging a seller who provides tracking on an item that is still set to be delivered.

PayPal should tell people to wait, if tracking shows it’s in transit. I could see an agent hastily back a refund request if a package is never scanned in though.

IMO, the bigger headache is avoiding bad feedback. Some people are acting like you offered them a “get it by Xmas or your order is free” guarantee and they know they can use negative feedback as leverage. Sellers have to decide whether to lose money and hopefully avoid bad feedback or stick to their guns, make customers exhibit patience as their package shows up in a week or two, and possibly get their feedback score ‘ruined’.  I think most people will take December 2020 negative reviews with a grain of salt, so it’s not as bad as it feels, but some marketplaces like Etsy will shut you down or punish you for not having a perfect feedback rating, so it can be impacting.

  14. While we’re ranting...so many people using these unprecedented USPS delays as an excuse to get out of their impulse December purchases. Luckily, I’ve only had 1 person drop the “THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A XMAS GIFT YOU RUINED THE MEMORIES I CAN NEVER WANT THIS NOW” line on me but,  reading on some Etsy/eBay forums, it’s wild out there. Small full time shops are getting slammed with a ton of  1 star reviews and refund requests, even though it’s a pandemic and the packages are still arriving, just 1-3 weeks late. I get that the pandemic and life makes us do some weird stuff but pls chill for the next few weeks while your records and gifts make their way to you. Be well, all!

Anyone ever order from DiscoverMusic.com? Are they legit? My wife ordered me an Offspring record for Christmas with guaranteed delivery by 12/24 and nothing.. No tracking, no response ( tried emailing and filling out the contact us form ) Any input or experiences are appreciated!

    Thanks all.

They’re legit but they’re an impersonal retailer with slow customer service. Stuff usually ships a week or more after you buy and each reply you get from customer service takes 4-5 days and it’s a different agent each time. It’s worth the slowness for the great deals they run every so often. Too late for this order but I’d never trust their estimated shipping times or guarantees and expect to get your records from them at their own pace.
