I listened to every single second of this song and very much enjoyed every single second of this song. The clean vocals here are very much a background texture-my operative words were "lead vocals".  I was pretty clear in both regards.
Even with the new element, "Canary Yellow" is by and large a by the numbers Deafheaven song. "Honeycomb" even more so.
Deafheaven doing by the numbers Deafheaven songs is still better than a lot of other bands. All I'm saying is that for LP5 going forward, I'd personally like to see more diversification from them. There's no need for them to get into AC/DC like territory and simply slightly tweak the standard formula for each new album. To me, that gets old fast. And if they do in fact go down that road in the future, all that'll mean is that I'll become a much more passive listener and hitch my wagon to someone else. Easy.

I posted this on another board and am copying it verbatim here (edit: I don't know what happened with the formatting. Weird):

"Canary Yellow" is indeed an excellent track, and make no mistake-I am extremely hyped for this record (limited vinyl pre-order to boot).

BUT, this upcoming album is basically the last time this band can sound like this before they get real same-y real fast. They are going to need to do *something* on the album after this one to mix it up a bit.

I mean, both available tracks from OCHL basically indicate that this is going to be New Bermuda Part 2. That's all well and good, as that was a top shelf album, even if it was a cleaned-up distillation of Sunbather. But if LP5 turns out to be more of the same, then the formula is going to quickly lose luster.

I don't know what kind of change ups would suit this band going forward, but I personally would start with dirty-ing up the guitar production. To my ears, the ultra clear and articulate guitar mixes on both New Bermuda and (by all indicators) OCHL don't really fit either the post-BM or shoegaze-y ambiances they are going for. The messy, smeary, more nebulous guitar mixing on Sunbather very much gets those aesthetics across in a better fashion. I'm not saying that they should simply re-write Sunbather, but that album's sonic aesthetics go a long way with this band's writing style.

Further, Clarke needs to *badly* vary up his lead vocal stylings, as he is clearly the weakest link in the band by far (assumption being that OCHL has the same one dimensional lead vocal performance the other three albums had). I don't know if that translates specifically to clean singing (an overdone trope in this genre), but it certainly could mean experiments with death metal growling, punk like shouting/yelling, or more intense spoken work sections (ala Envy).

Again, not to shit all over this album as I am looking very forward to hearing the final full record, and both "singles" (quotations used because the idea that this band-who's songs are lengthy on average with non-traditional linear song structuring and no real choruses to speak of-is commercially motivated is a laughable one) thus far have been superb.

These will be a blind purchase for me no doubt. I've learned to implicitly trust Numero when it comes to their 200 line.
I knew nothing of Bedhead, Unwound, Blonde Redhead,  Codeine, Crimpshrine, or Super Static Fever before being exposed to them via being exposed to Numero from here (I only knew Husker Du). And it turns out, all were top shelf. I expect this to be no different.

I guess this serves as a general plug, I am only now seeing that OP is from the UK and probably won't have time to commit to travel to these areas.

I think "Half Light" is excellent. I just prefer "Mother And Child Divided" between the two and think it flows better with "So Called Friend" which would be the preceding track.

I tell you what, that's not a terrible idea in of itself. But what kills this particular song for me is the tempo. PT sounds awkward and feels uncomfortable at this type of fast tempo. I personally think the fastest they should go is something like "Arriving Somewhere..." or the title tracks to either Deadwing or Fear Of A Blank Planet-all three are relatively fast, but a bit slower than "...Master Tape". It just feels weird when they tried to play fast tempo material, at least to my ears, and "...Master Tape" might work a lot better 10-15 BPMs slower.
Of course, I am talking of the "band" albums, as there is faster tempo stuff on the early "solo" albums (think "Linton Samuel Dawson") that works because it fits with the psych/krautrock pastiche vibe of those records.

@Shitty Rambo This is basically it.  They brought back Ross Robinson to produce, the production is live/raw as fuck, and you can really tell there's no click track. Personally , I *love* when bands do records in this fashion, and this album has a very urgent feeling to it, and IMO, the songs hold up. Plus Ray Luzier's performance-his first on record with the band-is completely unhinged.
All that said, the idea behind it-making a purposely "old school" record- is very transparent, so your mileage may vary. The key word regarding this album from my earlier post was "attempt".
They attempted a similar a similar aesthetic in 2003 with Take A Look In The Mirror, but that album is completely fucking terrible.
Also completely fucking terrible was 2005's See You On The Other Side, and I cannot grasp how this album has its fans, as evidenced by this thread. But hey, that's me, like what you like.
EDIT: I should clarify that when I referred to a wildly experimental self titled/untitled album in my earlier post, I was referring to the 2007 album and not the 1994 debut. Just to be clear.

Here's a few I'd like to see. Some are obvious (uhhh, obviously). Heavy on 90's/early 2000's stuff.

    First Issues:
-Fountains Of Wayne: Welcome Interstate Managers and Traffic And Weather(license these two to Yep Roc, as they did an excellent job with their other three albums. I can't fathom why WIM in particular has not been pressed)
-Harvey Danger: King James Version (No Sleep did an awesome press of Merrymakers, they should get the license for this one too)
-Tears For Fears: Raoul & The Kings Of Spain
-Flickerstick: Welcoming Home The Astronauts and Tarantula (seriously Idol, get on these)
    -Garbage: Bleed Like Me

    Reissues:
-All 90's and 2000's U2. There was a recent repress of Atomic Bomb that was literally a first press recreation, and that's what I want for these other five albums-no remastering, no "deluxe editions", no "definitive versions", no nothing. Just put these five back in circulation as they were.
-Tears For Fears: Elemental and Everybody Loves A Happy Ending (there was a promo version of ELAHE, but no wide release. And we are getting into Chinese Democracy territory regarding their new album)
    -Belly: King
    -Garbage: Version 2.0 and Beautifulgarbage
-Hum: Downward Is Heavenward (yeah, I'll pile on to this one)
-Death: Symbolic (let Relapse give it the proper treatment)
-Devin Townsend: Ki, Addicted, Ghost, and Epicloud
-Husker Du: the remaining catalog. Fuck all the bullshit squabbling, get everything to Numero and get these out.
-Smashing Pumpkins: Machina 1 to complete the original reissue series (it's nonsense this has not been released yet, when it is otherwise allegedly ready to go)

At this point, I'm realizing that I am just going through my digital collection alphabetically and stream of consciously just riffing here, so I'm gonna stop myself before this post gets unmanageably large.

DASiano got a reaction from DJ Trakkz in Run Out Groove Vinyl: Warner Music Fan-Driven Vinyl-Only Label - Official Thread
I did get the Stooges-the packaging is super well done, the vinyl color looks great, the audio quality is excellent, the material itself is so so. I know it would be utterly pointless for this boutique label to simply press Fun House itself, but this outtake compilation doesn't hold a candle to the actual album, despite being portrayed as such.
I also own the MC5 compilation (decent, some sound issues on side A-seems to be source material rather than pressing related), and the Secret Machines album (outstanding all around-ROGV's best release by FAR). The physical aspect (packaging and the vinyl itself) of all three that I own are phenomenal-a lot of care has been put into the presentation of these releases. But I have say that I feel slightly disappointed by the MC5 and Stooges releases in terms of material.
I haven't bought anything else because nothing else appeals to my tastes, and that also applies to the ballots as well-I don't vote most times because none of the choices appeal to me.
I guess that's my whole dichotomy with the ROGV experiment as a whole-it's both a success and a failure, both satisfactory and disappointing.
Their entire approach just feels off to me. Way to genre focused for my tastes (LOTS of soul and 70's rock on the ballots, whereas I think they could make a KILLING raiding the vaults on 90's and early 2000's stuff that's never been on vinyl before), very compilation and live album focused (only three of the 10 albums issued are full length studio albums), and they seem to push titles that they want more heavily (they've had the Meic Stevens on the ballot for the past 2 or 3 rounds, and there was another title (which I can't remember) that went through 2-3 rounds of voting and never even got voted in). The ballots should be a fresh slate of titles each time, as I see it.
I voted for Ministry this time around, but even that is a disappointment because it's not even the full Greatest Fits compilation-it's a 1LP distillation (13 tracks on the CD, 8 tracks on the proposed LP). So rather than offer up Filth Pig (random example) or another full length studio album by Ministry, we get a compilation that's then further distilled from the CD version (I voted before knowing this because I though it to be a convenient way to get most of Ministry's best tracks from that era on wax. Probably would've voted for Fear had I dug a little deeper). Meanwhile the Meic Stevens is an "expanded" 2LP version. Very, very weak.
I'll buy either Ministry (I still dig the selected tracks) or Fear (even if Lee Ving is an idiot) if they get voted in, but given how hard they are pushing for Meic Stevens, I would not be surprised if that gets the nod.
Yeah, ROGV, very hit or miss. But do know that if it is a title that you know you would like, you are very likely to get an extremely high quality product both in packaging and audio (MC5 notwithstanding).

Got my golden mead 2LP yesterday. The golden mead color looks awesome and the jacket also looks excellent and is full of visual detail. I'm three sides into my first listen and it sounds awesome too (sonically speaking).

Not their best work (that's Black Cascade for my money), but very solid overall. "Angrboda" stands out as the best cut on here by far. I will say this: I am only clicking with Celestial Linage now despite having and listening to it repeatedly since its release in 2011, so after a few listens over time this might reveal itself as something special as well.

My only (admittedly minor) gripe is that at 42 minutes this did not need to be a double LP. You can sell it all you want as an "audiophile pressing cut at 45", but I'd rather pay single LP price for the record cut at 33 on a single LP. I mean, neither track on either side of disc 1 cracks 10 minutes, to the point where side two is 8 and a half minutes. Seems almost wasteful.

Overall though, very good pressing of a very good album.

New song is super good.  Looking very forward to this record.
I wonder if, since it seems we're gonna get a more conventional release strategy compared to SoI, there are going to be any unusual limited variants. Going by Discogs listings, the band and/or those they surround themselves with don't seem to historically be hip to this idea (at least for their official releases). Maybe they have their collective ears to the ground?
Changing gears: I have to defend No Line On The Horizon. I think that "Get On Your Boots" being the first single colored people's perception of the record as a whole. The album as a whole is actually a relatively unusual and challenging listen from this band, for the most part, which I have high appreciation for personally. I do agree with dan_smee that this song-as well as "Stand Up Comedy" are B-sides at best, but I disagree that "I'll Go Crazy..." is disposable. It's a solid pop single that retains the more atmospheric and experimental qualities from the more out there tracks. This should have been the first single for people to base their impressions on.
I always love when bands put their sound in a blender, so I respect things like "Unknown Caller", "FEZ-Being Born" and "White As Snow". And in addition to the songs dan_smee mentioned, "Magnificent" and "Breathe" are also noteworthy rock tracks.
Top to bottom, I personally highly rate this record. I can do without "Get On Your Boots" and "Stand Up Comedy", but I don't necessarily feel they kill the flow of the album as a whole work. Its far from their worst album-that dubious honor goes to October.

I am very much looking forward to this-I also thought Song Of Innocence was excellent (I think this record was very unfairly judged  due to the release strategy over the actual musical content) and between this clip and the live clips of a different new song they've introduced on this last tour (name escapes me at the moment), I have pretty high hopes.
Slight derailment: as I stated in the Atomic Bomb reissue thread-I wish the 90's/00's stuff get reissued sooner than later. The Atomic Bomb reissue by most accounts was a well done reproduction of the OG, and I'd rather pay those prices over OG prices on something like Achtung Baby or Pop if the quality  is similar.

YES. Although, they did do a Joshua Tree Tour ep back in June (where they played the aforementioned live clip of one of the new songs). It was a good ep-a great ep.

I put down for a 7+7" last night. My first grab bag ever.
As I understand it, the clear variants are something of a "private press"-only 100 exist per title. So it stands to reason that these are the rarest variants of any given recent Relapse title.
That might mean that I might not get anything "good" or something from a "name" band (however defined, for each term), but at an average of $8.27 per title, it's still a steal, a good way to try new music, and-if I absolutely hate something-has assumed trade or resale value.
Ill post my contents when it arrives.

Despite all the horror stories here, I went ahead and ordered Deviations when the inventory showed less than 10 copies. I paid the $2 extra for 2 day FedEx, and sure enough, it was here in 2 days. No shipping notice, though.

My copy came in a multi LP form fitting box, a box seemingly designed to ship 2-3 LPs in, with bubble wrap on each side (although I'm sure Trent would bemoan the use of ULine boxes, but that;s an entirely different discussion).

One of the corners of the jacket was ever so slightly bent. I have to think that it's because of the shrinkwrap and not the shipping materials. The records themselves are pristine.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase and am very much looking forward to spinning this. Yeah, it was expensive, but yolo or something.

Either I got lucky, or maybe this Sandbag got their act together to a degree. Let's see if that carries over when the definitive remasters and NTAE starts shipping. I have a feeling those are just gonna appear out of nowhere at my doorstep.

Regarding the Roads To The North and Autumn Eternal represses, here's an interview with Marty from Bindrune (Panopticon's label) done in March of this year. The response to the final question is an outline on the planned label release schedule for this year, of which those represses are listed (among many other cool impeding releases).

That said, again, this interview was conducted in March. Since then, he's gone through some serious family stuff, which makes it obvious that the label is likely forced to slow down a bit (as is reasonable given the circumstances). So it might be a bit before it actually comes to fruition.

Side note: I'd love for Bindrune to do a Revisions Of The Past "part 2", covering the self titled debut and Collapse. Collapse, in particular, is an outstanding underrated record.

I know this comes across as a cheesy gimmick, but I actually think this is a fine idea. For now, I'm very behind this.
I mean, the Warner Music catalog goes deep.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Warner_Music_Group_labels
Without digging into each sub-label's catalog, I'd be willing to bet that there's probably between 20-50 "must have" releases somewhere in there for any given user on this board. There's so much stuff that either hasn't had a vinyl pressing for a long while, or has never been pressed on vinyl at all.
Here's an example of mine: Harvey Danger-King James Version which was released by Sire which is owned by Warner. Another example: the catalog of The Corrs (don't savage me on this-it's really well done pop music), all of which were released on 143, Lava, Atlantic, Eastwest, or Atlantic (depending on the territory), all of which are Warner labels. If there's even a chance that any of these get pressed, I'm all for this concept.
I'm probably going to put down for Secret Machines. I somehow completely missed the boat on these guys the first time around but this thread diverted my attention to them. I checked the album in question on YouTube and it's right up my alley.
I think this could be a good concept overall, provided the pricing doesn't get out of hand.

I was on high alert for this, as Marty Worm did give me the heads up that this was imminent and that the limitation would be extreme when I was chatting with him about something else.
I own everything Bindrune and Eihwaz have released to date, so there's no way I'd miss this too. They've only put out a small handful of releases I didn't care for, but everything else these labels have put out are of the utmost quality. Plus, the pedigree of the members involved (members of Nechochwen, Unwlling Flesh, Obsequaie, Infirmary) pretty much guarantees excellence.
These label's releases are pretty much the only things I buy on CD these days.
