  1. Yeah, I think the fact that it's a top three Bowie track in terms of recognition alone doesn't help the issue. It's also a major oversight considering the volume/tone drop off is absent from the original pressing, so the whole "We're not touching the master tape because historical fidelity" is kinda bogus; being true to history would mean fixing that obvious misrecording at whatever stage between the tape master and the plate-cutting.
  2. So... bit of a storm brewing. Stephen Street and Henry Rollins are involved. http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/parlophone-respond-to-david-bowie-berlin-box-set-mastering-criticisms/
  3. There's only 300 of these bad boys on translucent red wax. Sounds like a perfect mix of downtempo jazz-style post-rock bands like The Drift, early Efterklang and a druggy Ninja Tune act. Kudos to the guys at SlyVinyl for making me aware of this. Check out the link. By track 4, I bought my copy. https://bedlamtapes.bandcamp.com/album/spring-rain
  4. The only thing that sucks about this album was that horribly bullshit 12" they bundled it with to jack the price of the sale up.
  5. Side note: Anyone know which track is the one that appears often at dusk or dawn, and is a really slow piece with what sounds like a zither? Feels almost Eno-ish. And no, it's not "Ancient Stones" it's even more downtempo than that.
  6. I would say only subscribe if there's a Record of the Month you really want. Then, to make it worth your while, buy as many exclusives as you'd like (keep in mind you might save on cost if you use someone's referral link). I've liked everything they've pressed that I've bought from them tbh.
  7. Nuit Rouge . Edit: NM. I think June Records has copies left!
  8. As of now I'm waiting on HKE, James Ferraro (paid for both back in late January ), Tanning Salon and now MacPlus. Sigh. How the mighty OESB has fallen.
  9. Thanks for the opportunity and for giving a lot of excellent bands vinyl pressings and exposure on your label. I don't think I'd heard of any of your artists before I came across your website besides Sun Airway.
  10. Haha well I'm a Fridmann fanatic but I can see how he maybe sugarcoated Mogwai a bit too much. I'm a CODY fan more than Rock Action, I can see both sides. Maybe I'll splurge on it after all.
  11. My local store had a few copies of the box set for like 68 CDN today. To those who have theirs, is that extra disc is worth it? I might be convinced to buy it...
  12. Crap. I should have know better than to hope that copies of this might stick around for the next 20% off day. Oh well. It's a nice pressing but not worth it, as lovely as the music is as well.
  13. Check out my comments about The Dears box set here. It could be people don't want to pay around 150 CAD for what's basically 4 LPs given how shitty the packaging is. I really hope they're reasonable tbh. Like no more than 25 a piece and that's even too far IMO.
  14. FWIW, the label actually did send out an email reminder today to pick up the box set. Of course, they did that a few days after I'd already grabbed my copy.
  15. Too bad on the box set price. I'd have paid as much as 50 bucks for just the 2lp . Maybe I'll have to wait another 5-10 years to see that happen. Sigh.
  16. Mutations is the best Beck album, also one of the best albums of the 1990s. Modern Guilt is very good, too. I'm glad folks are able to own both at reasonable prices. Yes, we need Midnite Vultures next.
  17. I'm going to have to go with "Toska". I like the instrumental tracks better overall, and that one is best of them. It reminds me of Rephlex/early-Warp IDM production but mixed with shoegaze. It's like a Seefeel track, and that's high-praise in my books.
  18. I picked it up from the label's office and skipped shipping. There's no specific notifications sent to people who preordered that way. At best, their regular newsletter goes out whenever something gets shipped so you have to stay on top of that and just walk in their office during business hours with the order number handy. If you paid for tracking, though, they ought to have sent you the tracking number at the very least.
  19. Considering Johann Johannson got booted from the film ten days ago, who knows when a vinyl press of it will be released,
  20. As a Canadian, I deplore the inclusion of Nickelback (Someone had to say it).
  21. Really loved the first album, an instant-classic. Disliked the second album & hated the horrible quality of the vinyl pressing of the second album (you see used copies of it a lot; big hint it was a widespread problem). So far the new song, while coming across as The Blue Nile meets Dan Deacon (should sound great on paper) doesn't completely grab my attention. I'm loving the color choice; it's certainly very unique but I'd have to listen to the whole thing before deciding whether I need it in my life.
  22. Even though I clicked through I lol'd as soon as I read the title in the URL. That's great. I wouldn't throw that box out either. That reminds me that if there's ever a TMNT soundtrack they should release that in a pizza box, too.
  23. It doesn't even have a ribbon going down the middle to make grabbing the Lps themselves that much easier, either, given that they're sunk halfway into the box . You essentially have to tip the LPs out of the box and catch them with your other hand as they tumble out. I don't like junking box-set boxes but I've never found one as flimsy as this before. I mean, it's the only box-set box I have that isn't lacquered or otherwise treated with a water-resistant coating of some kind. Assuming they they stick to the pizza box format (the GLS box-set mock-up sure looks like they are), I think I'll only buy box-sets from this reissue sub-imprint when/if they go on sale. Maybe they'll invest in custom-sized, lacquered boxes if the feedback from fans is negative enough. I get the gimmick (it goes back to the aesthetics of The Paper Bag Princess where the label borrowed its name) but it comes at the expense of us who paid a lot and imagined at least half the cost going towards a sturdier box.
  24. Yeah some of the 90's era compilations getting vinyl pressings would be cool on their own. It turns out this one had two versions released, the second with more songs/different tracklist. It'd be cool to see the Friends of Bellwoods comps getting reissued, too. Lot's of mid-2000s bands with exclusive songs, a lot of them from Blocks Recording Co.
