  1. about 6 months ago, Books-a-Million started testing vinyl in select stores. They'll probably decide to put 'em in all stores soon, cause they are doing REALLY GOOD! No punk, mostly old blues reissues, and a lot of psychedelic reissues. A couple new bands, but mostly 60's-70's stuff. They have the Beatles vinyl box $275. Cheap prices especially with discount card(a lot are 10.99 and then you get 10% off with card).
  2. The Strokes one has "You're So Right" as the b-side - regular album track, shirt is US flag. Johnny Cash has Folsom Prison Blues and San Quentin (both live)
  3. I just got all 18 of the sets. The Pumpkins one has Celestials / Inkless (ORIGINAL MIX) Beautiful cover on the set
  4. Target just got in new 45 box set/ shirt combos like the Beatles ones last year. Eric Church, George Thorogood, Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Idol, Beatles, Beach Boys, Heart, Little Big Town, Poison, Journey, The Strokes, Miles Davis, hall & Oates, Quiet Riot, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, Jimi Hendrix. 6 of them have brand new music - Beach Boys, Heart, Smashing Pumpkins, Strokes, Eric Church, Little Big Town, some of the others are exact reissues, some are fabricated issues that never existed before.
  5. May 2012 - FYE in the Orange park Mall has an ELF/Dio Picture Disc, Anthrax - Fistful of Metal (double 10"), Fleetwood Mac 1975 album(as a double or single), and some metal band I can't remember the name of.
  6. In case nobody knows, the TOYPAJ that HotTopic has is RED/GREEN/YELLOW vinyl (same as Bob Marley Legend reissue from 04). It says nothing on the cover, and this was a nice surprise.
  7. There is another place to buy new vinyl in Jax - Urban Outfitters in St. Johns Town Center - VERY PRICEY, but they have good indie and several good reissues. So, now we have Young Loud and Snotty at the beach, HotTopic(except Avenues), BestBuy(ocassionally), Discount Records on San Marco in St. Augustine (Discount next to Florida Theater will be getting new vinyl SOON), and the various others with used vinyl.
  8. New movie coming out Friday1/28- THE MECHANIC, has a killer turntable during the movie, and it's integral to the ending of the movie too. Awesome action flick, old 60s Jaguar is sweet. The Green Hornet car has a built-in turntable, nothin fancy, but the Gangstas Paradise scene was a riot.
  9. Did you find them? There are 2 (actual stores) in Beach Blvd Flea Market, and one at the Beach on Atlantic called "Young Loud And Snotty"
  10. So you know, there ARE 3 stores in Jacksonville Florida. 2 are in a flea market, but ARE real stores. They are in Beach Blvd Flea Market and are divided off, and air conditioned - DooWops has used LP's - it's OK, Yesterday and Today is real good for older collectible stuff, neither carries new vinyl. The 3rd is at the Beach across from Aqua East on Atlantic Blvd. They pretty much carry new vinyl, and are real good so far - they don't have much, since they opened only a week ago, but say they are getting a lot more.
  11. Jacksonville Florida has a brand new record store called "Young Loud and Snotty". They JUST opened 8/12/2010, and only have about 100 punk LPs so far, thought they say they are getting a lot more. They are across from AquaEast at the beach on Atlantic, Behind BP
  12. Does anyone from Connecticut remember the insanely great CAPITOL RECORDS in Hartford Connecticut????? A little hole in the wall in a questionable section of Hartford that closed way back in 85. Talk about a place strictly for collectors - they didn't carry normal US pressings of the latest releases - they would always have a PROMO / JAPANESE PRESSING / BOOTLEG / etc. First time I walked in there, I found about 20 things I had been contemplating ordering through Circus Magazine in their Rock-Bottom Imports ad. Back then, it took months to get a record ordered through the mail!!!! Cutler's in New Haven was very good, but Capital made them look bad by comparison. Rhymes Records (right near Cutlers) was also very good. Integrity N Music (a still-in-existence jazz store) was really good in the mid-80's when they started to carry ROCK rarities NOBODY else had. Even some of the chains like RECORD WORLD had unbelievable amounts of rare import 12inchers in the 80's
  13. Based on the threads here, i'm a tad older than most of the folk. When I grew up, radio was the main source of hearing music, no internet, no YOUTUBE/Myspace/Twitter/etc. Back then, radio wasn't a whole lot better, but it was TOLERABLE. They would have some things that appealed to TRUE music lovers, not just TOP 40 listeners. For instance, Sunday was all-about special shows. They had Mary Turner Of f The Record, with interviews with each band and played hits and some b-sides. Metal Shop was 3 hours of metal. Jim Ladd did INNERVIEW with music interwoven. King Biscuit had Live Shows. Dr. Demento was a good comedy show with humor related music, and on Monday you had Rockline - hands down the best of all. Not to mention, some of the stations put together their own shows which were good as well. You would ocassionally catch a station playing a B-side, they would play I've Got The Fire and CrossEyed Mary by Iron Maiden on the radio!! You've got to remember Good Riddance(from Brainstew single) by Green Day and Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam were b-sides that radio made into hits. To be honest, had I not grown up when radio was better, i don't think i'd be a DEEP music fan. If I were to base current music on what's played on the radio, I would think 2009 was the worst year in music, however since I listen elsewhere - I realize it was one of the better years EVER!!! Now radio is not tolerable - it is strictly for the TOP 40crowd, even the oldies they play are cookie-cutter. I would go as far as to say - current top 40 represents the only music made that is NOT GOOD. When I email and/or talk to the program directors, they say the only market for deep music fans is the internet or Satellite radio. Do they not realize how many true music/ indie fans are out there? My problem with that theory is that if you're a casual music listener, you're not going to know that the best music is on internet radio stations. In other words, you don't know what you're missing if you are just plain unaware. Even through word of mouth, you're not going to care, because you don't realize you have potential of liking good music in lieu of Top40 schlock. My point is, radio has a golden opportunity to get some indie listeners, and they're blowing it. They continue to show they have absolutely zero knowledge of what's goin on in music. They are always 2 months late breaking new artists, and take no chances whatsoever. If there was a station that played non-stop indie they could regain the youth demographic. I have young friends that don't listen to radio, and never did. I ask them if a traditional station played Between the buried and me, every time i die, radiohead, preschool tea party massacre, killers, arsonists get all the girls, the dillinger escape plan, emmure, cursive, cake, getup kids, tv on the radio, ween, afi, eels, beck, etc would you listen? They say "Hell Yeah" of course. Radio is complaining about it's shrinking fan-base, when they hold the key to returning to former glory. The only explanation i can fathom is they're afraid if they try something new they will slip further down their slippery slope of inevitable nonexistence. They say "Wow - Ladygaga is making us a fortune - let's play her ad infintium... til nauseating symptoms set in" The answer is to hire some young program directors who have a passion for music, and let them choose the music, not the computer!!!
  14. If you guys don't know about errorfm.com - check em out - 2 online stations that play indie deep cuts and scattered oldies mixed in. You can feel the love for the music they're playing, in other words, the EXACT OPPOSITE of traditional radio!!!! If i were forced to listen to traditional radio, I would opt for the "silence is golden" option.
  15. Thorens TD166 Mk2 - classic early 80's table. So heavy-duty, you could kill somebody with the 20 pound platter!!! Best sound out there - when I have my receiver on ProLogic2, you can hear all details coming out of 7 separate speakers, like you're in front of the band. The same album on cd sounds like a jumbled mess. I also have a Technics SL1200 - which is very good, and a cheap $100 Gemini XL100- which is terrible compared to the others, but for the price, it's decent.
